We report the case of an older infant with no prior morbidity that approximately 3 weeks after receiving MMR vaccination (measles, mumps, rubella) was hospitalized for feverish symptoms, increased parotid volume and compromised consciousness. Aseptic meningitis was diagnosed, detecting pleocytosis in the CSF, predominantly mononuclear, and confirming by molecular biology, presence of parotid virus in CSF. A study was carried out by the Institute of Public Health of Chile, where serology (IgM and IgG) was positive.

Human bites are an infrequent cause of emergency department visits and hospital admissions. There are rarely published cases of complicated infection, such as infective endocarditis. We present a rare case of a patient with acute infective endocarditis in a healthy native valve and purulent pericarditis from a human bite.

Background: Gastric cancer is the fifth cause of cancer incidence worldwide. Multidisciplinary approaches that improve the survival are needed. Perioperative chemotherapies show improvement in pathological complete remission (pCR) and overall survival (OS), but less than 50% of the patients completed the chemotherapeutic regimen.

Introduction: Sentinel lymph node dissection is widely used in the staging of endometrial cancer. Variation in surgical techniques potentially impacts diagnostic accuracy and oncologic outcomes, and poses barriers to the comparison of outcomes across institutions or clinical trial sites. Standardization of surgical technique and surgical quality assessment tools are critical to the conduct of clinical trials.

Purpose: This study investigated the association between chondrolabral damage and time to arthroscopic surgery for slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE).
Methods: This was a descriptive retrospective study that enrolled patients with SCFE who underwent hip arthroscopy for femoral osteochondroplasty after SCFE fixation. SCFE type, time from SCFE symptom onset or slip fixation surgery to hip arthroscopy and intraarticular arthroscopic findings were recorded.

Objective: To describe the epidemiology and health resource utilization for convulsive status epilepticus (SE) in the emergency department (ED).
Methods: Retrospective descriptive study in the Nationwide Emergency Department Sample (NEDS). Primary SE and secondary SE (SE in a case who visited the ED for other primary reason) were compared with non-SE seizures.

Although the correction of knee flexion by lengthening the hamstring musculature is traditionally contemplated in cerebral palsy, literature suggests that treatment of hip flexion also improves knee extension. The aim of the study was to first show the efficacy of the sequence of intrapelvic tenotomy of the psoas followed by intramuscular lengthening of the proximal rectus anterior and, later, that of both surgical soft tissue surgeries separately. For this, a prospective study was carried out in 10 patients with a mean age of 14 years, which presented 16 fixed knee flexes with a mean of deformity of 22°.

Antibiotics are the most widely used medications in neonates during their first month of life in neonatal units, mainly due to the high risk they present of acquiring serious infections such as sepsis. Most of these antibiotics are used with extrapolated doses based on the suggestions in the adult population and older children, despite the fact that the pathophysiology in newborns is absolutely different. This leads to a higher risk of more adverse effects occurring, which can lead to greater toxicity and therapeutic failures, among others.

SARS-CoV-2 is a high environmental stable virus. It is predominantly a respiratory pathogen that also affects the gastrointestinal tract. The ACE 2 receptor is the main receptor of SARS-CoV-2, with evidence of its high presence in the intestine, colon and cholangiocytes, and, in smaller proportion, in hepatocytes.

Background: Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SSJ) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (NET) are infrequent and life-threatening mucocutaneous diseases, which occur predominantly as adverse drug reactions.
Aim: To describe the frequency of SSJ and NET diagnoses at a national level, estimate their incidence and describe their distribution among the different regions of the country.
Material And Methods: Analysis of hospital discharge databases available at the website of the Chilean Ministry of Health searching for the tenth version of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10) codes for SSJ or NET, between 2001 and 2015.

Introduction: Orthognathic surgery, being an invasive surgical procedure, may present significant postoperative morbidities for the patient. Among the most frequently described complications is surgical site infection. The administration of prophylactic antibiotics prior to this type of procedure is a common practice, however, the cost-benefit of the use of antibiotics, the type of antibiotics, the route of administration, the dosage, and the regimen to be used have not been clearly defined and are still considered a controversial issue.

Alopecia areata is a common type of non-scarring alo¬pecia. Although the exact pathogenesis remains elusive, alopecia areata is thought to have a multifactorial etiology described as an interplay of genetic predisposition and environmental exposures. In patients with genetic susceptibility, stress, infection, and microtrauma have been documented to decrease immunosuppressive cytokines that generally maintain the hair follicle's immune privilege.

Objective: The aim of this study was to develop a Spanish version of the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) that is conceptually equivalent to the original questionnaire, as well as acceptable, reliable, valid, and responsive for use in Chilean patients with dentofacial deformities.
Material And Methods: The recommended standard methodology, with direct and back-translation, was used. A prospective longitudinal multicenter study of adult patients diagnosed with dentofacial deformity was carried out, self-administrating OQLQ, OHIP-14 (Oral Health Impact Profile), and SF-36 (Short Form 36 Health Survey) during the presurgery visit in order to examine construct validity.

Radiation for pelvic cancers can result in severe bladder damage and radiation cystitis (RC), which is characterized by chronic inflammation, fibrosis, and vascular damage. RC development is poorly understood because bladder biopsies are difficult to obtain. The goal of this study is to gain understanding of molecular changes that drive radiation-induced cystitis in cancer survivors using urine samples from prostate cancer survivors with history of radiation therapy.

Purpose: To investigate the association of partial-AZFc deletions in Chilean men with primary spermatogenic failure and their testicular histopathological phenotypes, analyzing the contribution of DAZ dosage, CDY1 copies, and Y-chromosome haplogroups.
Subjects And Methods: We studied 479 Chilean men: 334 infertile patients with histological examination (233 cases with spermatogenic defects and 101 normal spermatogenesis, obstructive controls, OC), and 145 normozoospermic controls (NC). AZFc subdeletions were detected by single-tagged sequences and single nucleotide variants analysis.

Objective: Treatments for convulsive status epilepticus (SE) have a wide range of effectiveness. The estimated effectiveness of non-intravenous benzodiazepines (non-IV BZDs) ranges from approximately 70% to 90% and the estimated effectiveness of non-benzodiazepine antiseizure medications (non-BZD ASMs) ranges from approximately 50% to 80%. This study aimed to quantify the clinical and economic burden of decisional uncertainty in the treatment of SE.

The lack of sensitivity about detecting changes and the absence of a global patient evaluation, justify the search of new pre-operative evaluation tools.
Aims: To present the Walking Abilities Levels Classification System (WALCS) and to show the first inter-observer agreement study that has been carried out.
