Background: Combined expression of the autophagy-regulatory protein AMBRA1 (activating molecule in Beclin1-regulated autophagy) and the terminal differentiation marker loricrin in the peritumoral epidermis of stage I melanomas can identify tumour subsets at low risk of -metastasis.
Objectives: To validate the combined expression of peritumoral AMBRA1 and loricrin (AMBLor) as a prognostic biomarker able to identify both stage I and II melanomas at low risk of tumour recurrence.
Methods: Automated immunohistochemistry was used to analyse peritumoral AMBRA1 and loricrin expression in geographically distinct discovery (n = 540) and validation (n = 300) cohorts of nonulcerated American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage I and II melanomas.

Plasma biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction have been postulated for the diagnosis and prognosis of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD). However, their use is not validated in clinical practice yet. The endothelial activation and stress index (EASIX), a simple score based on routine laboratory parameters, is considered to be an indirect marker of endothelial damage.

Thoracic ultrasound (TU) has rapidly gained popularity over the past 10 years. This is in part because ultrasound equipment is available in many settings, more training programmes are educating trainees in this technique, and ultrasound can be done rapidly without exposure to radiation. The aim of this review is to present the most interesting and innovative aspects of the use of TU in the study of thoracic diseases.

Introduction: Split liver transplantation is a procedure performed throughout Europe. In 2018 in Catalonia, the distribution of donors was redefined, being potential candidates for SPLIT all those under 35-years and it was made flexible the adult selection for the right graft. The study aim is to evaluate the effect of this modifications on the use of Split donors on the adult/pediatric waiting lists, as well as to evaluate the post-transplant results of adults who received a Split donor.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a complex entity and one of the most frequents in general population. Association of GERD with obesity is clearly defined from an epidemiological point of view, where up to 40% of patients with overweight and obesity present reflux. Most of the risk factors associated to GERD are shared and especially frequent in patients with obesity.

Epstein-Barr virus-positive Inflammatory follicular dendritic cell/fibroblastic reticular cell tumour (EBV-IFDC/FRCT) is a rare neoplasm that occurs almost exclusively in the liver or spleen. Extra-hepatosplenic presentation is infrequent and exceptional cases have been described arising in the gastrointestinal tract or in the pharynx. However, EBV-IFDC/FRCT cases have not been previously reported in the larynx.

Since its origins, nuclear medicine has faced technological changes that led to modifying operating modes and adapting protocols. In the field of radioguided surgery, the incorporation of preoperative scintigraphic imaging and intraoperative detection with the gamma probe provided a definitive boost to sentinel lymph node biopsy to become a standard procedure for melanoma and breast cancer. The various technological innovations and consequent adaptation of protocols come together in the coexistence of the disruptive and the gradual.

Background Aims: Post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCY)-based prophylaxis is becoming widespread for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) performed independently of the selected donor source. In parallel, use of the Endothelial Activation and Stress Index (EASIX)-considered a surrogate parameter of endothelial activation-for predicting patient outcomes and clinical complications is gaining popularity in the allo-HCT setting.
Methods: We first investigated whether the dynamics of EASIX after allo-HCT differ between patients receiving PTCY and patients receiving other prophylaxis.

Background: Autologous arteriovenous fistula is usually the vascular access of choice for hemodialysis in patients with chronic kidney disease. Autologous forearm loops with cephalic or basilic vein are an alternative in those cases with a suitable forearm vein but with an unsuitable radial artery; however they are rarely used and there is little reported evidence of their usefulness. Our objective is to report our results on the creation of autogenous forearm loops as vascular access for hemodialysis.

Background: Phase III trial data have shown a significant benefit by the addition of a maintenance treatment with niraparib, irrespective of BRCA or HRD status, in patients with advanced high-grade ovarian cancers; and, a significant benefit of the combination of olaparib and bevacizumab compared with bevacizumab monotherapy in HRD positive patients. However, it is unclear whether a PARP inhibitor monotherapy is sufficient, or if the addition of bevacizumab is needed.
Primary Objectives: This trial will investigate if the treatment strategy of carboplatin/paclitaxel/bevacizumab/niraparib is superior to the treatment of carboplatin/paclitaxel/niraparib in an all-comer population.

Background & Aims: Successful immunosuppression withdrawal (ISW) is possible for a subfraction of liver transplant (LT) recipients but the factors that define the risk of ISW failure are largely unknown. One candidate prognostic factor for ISW success or operational tolerance (OT) is longer time between LT and ISW which we term "pre-withdrawal time". To clarify the impact of pre-withdrawal time span on subsequent ISW success or failure, we conducted a systematic review with meta-analysis.
