Article Synopsis
  • Autism is a common condition influenced by both single gene issues and multiple genes, and many autistic people need better healthcare that genomics can help provide.
  • The European Autism GEnomics Registry (EAGER) aims to collect info about autistic people who have had their entire DNA sequenced to help with future research and trials.
  • EAGER will involve 1,500 participants from 13 places in 8 countries who will share genetic samples and fill out surveys to help researchers understand the link between genetics and health.

Investigation of gene-environment interactions in relation to tic severity.

J Neural Transm (Vienna)

November 2021

Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University Medical Center Groningen, Hanzeplein 1, 9713 GZ, Groningen, The Netherlands.

Article Synopsis
  • Tourette syndrome (TS) is influenced by genetic and environmental factors, and this study investigated how specific genetic variants interact with pre- and perinatal adversity to affect tic severity in individuals with TS.
  • Researchers examined 98 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from various sources, including previous GWAS studies, to determine their association with tic severity using linear regression models.
  • While one SNP (rs7123010) showed a significant link to higher tic severity, the overall findings regarding the gene-environment interactions were not replicated in a second sample, suggesting more research is needed in this area.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the direct economic impact of two vaginal cuff brachytherapy (VBT) schedules in postoperative endometrial carcinoma (PEC) with similar vaginal control and toxicity results.

Materials And Methods: From 2006 to 2015, 397 PEC patients (p) were treated with VBT: mean 40p/year, 67.5% received external beam radiotherapy (EBRT)+VBT and 32.

Pre- and perinatal complications have been implicated in the onset and clinical expression of Tourette syndrome albeit with considerable inconsistencies across studies. Also, little is known about their role in co-occurring obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in individuals with a tic disorder. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the role of pre- and perinatal complications in relation to the presence and symptom severity of chronic tic disorder and co-occurring OCD and ADHD using data of 1113 participants from the Tourette International Collaborative Genetics study.

Int J Eat Disord

March 2004

Eating Disorders Unit, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology, Institute of Psychiatry and Psychology, Hospital Clínic Universitari Barcelona, IDIBAPS, Spain.

Objectives: To study nutritional abnormalities in adolescent anorexia nervosa and to establish whether certain abnormalities persist after short-term refeeding.

Method: Sixty-one patients (10-19 years old) admitted to a reference unit for eating disorders between 1999 and 2000 with a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa were evaluated at admission and at discharge. A range of biochemical, nutritional, and hormonal parameters were determined.
