Antimicrobial resistance and biofilm production in healthcare-associated infections is a health issue worldwide. This study aimed to identify potential biomarker peaks for resistance or biofilm production in ESKAPE pathogens using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). Antimicrobial susceptibility and biofilm production were assessed on selected isolates.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, the omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus became the dominant lineage in Spain in 2022. Although it possesses a milder pathogenicity than previous variants, it still poses a high risk of causing severe COVID-19 for immunocompromised populations. A systematic review was conducted to assess the burden of COVID-19 in Spain among immunocompromised patients during the omicron predominance (1/04/2022-1/04/2023), using PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EPICOVIDEHA between May and July 2023.

Objective: To determine the prevalence and genotypic characteristics of anal papillomaviruses in HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM).
Materials And Methods: This is a prospective cross-sectional observational study of HIV-positive MSM at Almenara General Hospital between September 2017 and December 2018. HPV detection and typing was performed using a polymerase chain reaction technique that evaluated 21 genotypes stratified according to oncogenic risk into six low-risk and fifteen high-risk.

Chagas disease (CD) is a neglected parasitic zoonotic disease that affects over 6 million people worldwide. We conducted a retrospective study to analyze the spatiotemporal trends and risk factors for hospitalization rates of CD with cardiac and digestive diagnoses in Chile. We used the Mann-Kendall analysis for temporal trends, Global Moran's Index, and Local Indicators of Spatial Association to identify spatial autocorrelation, and regression models to determine the risk factors associated with in-hospital mortality and surgical intervention.

Objective: To analyze the relationship between administrative burden and intrinsic motivation and between administrative burden and professional well-being among family and community medicine physicians. To analyze the extent to which attention to three basic needs (autonomy, sense of competence and relationship capacity) that one of the main motivation theories identifies as a generator of intrinsic motivation compensates for the negative effect of the administrative burden. To compare management models.

Background: Patients who develop postoperative delirium (POD) have several clinical complications, such as increased morbidity, increased hospital stays, higher hospital costs, cognitive and functional impairment, and higher mortality. POD is a clinical condition preventable by standard non-pharmacological measures An intensive Occupational Therapy (OT) intervention has been shown to be highly effective in preventing delirium in critically ill medical patients, but it is unknown the effect in surgical patients. Thus, we designed a prospective clinical study with the aim to determine whether patients undergoing intervention by the OT team have a lower incidence of POD compared to the group treated only with standard measures.

This article summarises the activities of the Bacterial Viruses Subcommittee of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses for the period of March 2021-March 2022. We provide an overview of the new taxa proposed in 2021, approved by the Executive Committee, and ratified by vote in 2022. Significant changes to the taxonomy of bacterial viruses were introduced: the paraphyletic morphological families Podoviridae, Siphoviridae, and Myoviridae as well as the order Caudovirales were abolished, and a binomial system of nomenclature for species was established.

Diabetic kidney disease is one of the most frequent complications in patients with diabetes and constitutes a major cause of end-stage kidney disease. The prevalence of diabetic kidney disease continues to increase as a result of the growing epidemic of diabetes and obesity. Therefore, there is mounting urgency to design and optimize novel strategies and drugs that delay the progression of this pathology and contain this trend.

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the cultivable oral microbiota of patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and its association with the periodontal condition.
Methods: The epidemiology profile of patients and their clinical oral characteristics were determined. The microbiota was collected from saliva, subgingival plaque, and gingival sulcus of 93 patients classified into four groups according to the periodontal and clinical diagnosis: Group 1 ( = 25), healthy patients; Group 2 ( = 17), patients with periodontitis and without OSA; Group 3 ( = 19), patients with OSA and without periodontitis; and Group 4 ( = 32), patients with periodontitis and OSA.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Epidemiological studies indicate that pre-menopausal women are more protected against the development of CVDs compared to men of the same age. This effect is attributed to the action/effects of sex steroid hormones on the cardiovascular system.

Limited knowledge on dementia biomarkers in Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries remains a serious barrier. Here, we reported a survey to explore the ongoing work, needs, interests, potential barriers, and opportunities for future studies related to biomarkers. The results show that neuroimaging is the most used biomarker (73%), followed by genetic studies (40%), peripheral fluids biomarkers (31%), and cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers (29%).

Introduction And Importance: Macular Holes (MH) are variable thickness openings of the retina that develop in the fovea. This case presents a branch macular artery avulsion during internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling for idiopathic macular hole management in an adult patient. The proper management of this complication along with the preventive measures is mentioned.
