Dietary Habits of Pregnant Women in Spain: The Role of Nutrition Education in Midwife Consultations.

Correct nutrition during pregnancy is key to guaranteeing success at this stage of a woman's life, and nutritional education is the fundamental tool for achieving this. Studies carried out in different countries indicate that pregnant women do not comply with dietary and nutritional recommendations. Given the lack of evidence available in Spain and the importance of this knowledge to be able to assess the need for nutritional intervention in this group, the aim of this study focused on the current status of the issue in Spain: the quality of the diet of Spanish pregnant women and its conditioning factors.

Hyperacusis and Tinnitus in Vestibular Migraine Patients.

Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of tinnitus and hyperacusis in patients with vestibular migraine (VM), and to define the association with hearing loss, anxiety, and depression.

Design: A cross-sectional, multicenter study including 51 adult patients with definite or probable VM, defined according to the Barany Society diagnostic criteria. Audiological examinations were performed by pure tones extended to high frequencies to assess hearing thresholds.

Efficacy of Fractional CO Laser Therapy in Improving Symptoms and Quality of Life in Women with Refractory Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus: A Prospective Observational Study.

Lichen sclerosus (LS) is a chronic inflammatory condition predominantly affecting the anogenital region of postmenopausal women. It is associated with considerable aesthetic and functional impairments and an increased risk of squamous cell carcinoma. While high-potency topical corticosteroids remain the cornerstone of treatment, therapeutic options for patients with refractory LS are scarce.

Prevalence and incidence of HPV-related dysplasia of oropharyngeal, cervical, and anal mucosae in Spanish people living with HIV (PLHIV).

Background: Objectives were to determine the prevalence/incidence of HPV-related dysplasia and clearance/acquisition rates of high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) genotypes in genital mucosa of women-LHIV and oropharyngeal and anal mucosa of PLHIV and to evaluate factors related to HR-HPV infection in oropharyngeal mucosa at 12-months.

Material And Methods: Prospective, longitudinal study with 12-month follow-up, enrolled PLHIV between December 2022 and April 2023. At baseline and 12-months, HIV-related clinical and analytical variables were recorded, oropharyngeal mucosa exudates were taken for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) studies for HPV and other sexually transmitted infections, while anal and female genital samples were self-sampled for HPV detection and genotyping by PCR and thin-layer cytology.

Evaluating MicroRNAs as diagnostic tools for lymph node metastasis in breast cancer: Findings from a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Lymph node metastasis (LNM) significantly affects the prognosis and clinical management of breast cancer (BC) patients. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to identify microRNAs (miRNAs) associated with LNM in BC and evaluate their potential diagnostic and prognostic value. Following PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, and SCOPUS databases, to assess the role of miRNAs in LNM BC.

Interobserver and Intraobserver Agreement on the Treatment of Infantile Hemangiomas.

Importance: Although clinical practice guidelines exist for the treatment of infantile hemangiomas (IHs), recommendations are heterogeneous, and wide practice variations in IH management have been reported.

Objective: To analyze the degree of agreement in treatment choices for IH among pediatric dermatologists in North America and Europe and assess whether there are differences across IH risk categories.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cross-sectional interrater and intrarater agreement study was conducted through a survey based on the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology IH prospective cohort.

Strategies for the Fortification of Human Milk in Preterm Infants: A Systematic Review.

Breast milk is the best source of nourishment for both full-term and preterm newborns. However, in preterm newborns, exclusive breastfeeding can lead to nutritional deficiencies, with short- and long-term consequences on growth and neurocognitive development. Breast milk fortification is a widely used strategy to provide an adequate nutritional profile to these patients.

A 68-year-old woman with obesity and ulcerative colitis history, referred to the emergency department and transferred to the ICU, with severe epigastric belt-like abdominal pain (requiring opiates) with sudden onset 10 hours after the last meal. The clinical exploration presented painful abdomen with epigastrium peritoneal irritation. Laboratory tests showed elevated amylase (2600 U/l) and lipase (1127 U/l), with leukocytosis and neutrophilia.
