Background: Polyphenols have been shown to be effective against many chronic diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases. Specifically, the consumption of raisins, being a food rich in polyphenols, has been attributed with neuroprotective benefits. Therefore, our main objective is to evaluate the effect of including 50 g of raisins in the diet daily for 6 months, on the improvement of cognitive performance, cardiovascular risk factors and markers of inflammation in a population of older adults without cognitive impairment.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Despite progress in drug discovery, identification of the correct population is the limiting factor to develop new compounds in the clinical setting. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of a new metallodrug, [RuCl(-cymene)(,-bis(diphenylphosphino)-isopropylamine)][BF] (), as a lead pnp-Ru compound by screening and preliminary biochemical and biological studies in different breast cancer subtypes.

Use of western blot to analyze the reactivity of sera from patients with Mediterranean spotted fever.

Eur J Clin Microbiol Infect Dis

October 1992

Department of Medicine, University Hospital, Paseo de San Vicente, Salmanca, Spain.

The reactivity of antigenic components of Rickettsia conorii with sequentially obtained sera from 20 adult Spanish patients with Mediterranean spotted fever was analyzed by Western blot. The major rickettsial antigens reacting with the serum samples corresponded to molecular weights of 135 and 115 kDa. These antigens constantly exhibited higher staining intensity than the other antigens, and reacted with 100% and 86.
