Cross-sectional-retrospective study with 120 anteroposterior pelvic radiographs. Eight measurements were taken by three raters in two times to calculate the morphological-cortical (MCI), cortico-metaphyseal (CMI), and cortico-diaphysaire (CDI) indices. Intra/interobserver reproducibility was evaluated with the Bland-Altman method, and hip fracture occurrence was predicted by comparing cut-off points between raters maximizing sensitivity/specificity.

Acute-on chronic liver failure (ACLF) has been an intensively debated topic mainly due to the lack of a unified definition and diagnostic criteria. The growing number of publications describing the mechanisms of ACLF development, the progression of the disease, outcomes and treatment has contributed to a better understanding of the disease, however, it has also sparked the debate about this condition. As an attempt to provide medical professionals with a more uniform definition that could be applied to our population, the first Mexican consensus was performed by a panel of experts in the area of hepatology in Mexico.

The Starling principle is a model that explains the transvascular distribution of fluids essentially governed by hydrostatic and oncotic forces, which dynamically allow vascular refilling according to the characteristics of the blood vessel. However, careful analysis of fluid physiology has shown that the principle, while correct, is not complete. The revised Starling principle (Michel-Weinbaum model) provides relevant information on fluid kinetics.

Pulmonary embolism is a common and potentially fatal disease, with a significant burden on health and survival. Right ventricular dysfunction and hemodynamic instability are considered two key determinants of mortality in pulmonary embolism, which can reach up to 65% in severe cases. Therefore, timely diagnosis and management are of paramount importance to ensure the best quality of care.

Recent studies suggest that the introduction of antiretroviral agents such as integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTI) may lead to weight gain in people living with HIV (PLHIV). In this retrospective observational study, we report the weight changes observed in virologically suppressed HIV patients after 12 months of switching to bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/F/TAF) due to a national change in public policy in Mexico. Patients on prior regimens based on TDF/FTC or ABC/3TC plus non-nucleoside retrotranscriptase inhibitor, INSTI, or protease inhibitor were included.

Background: Acute fibroid complications are rare. However, failure to recognize and treat acute complications expeditiously when they occur can lead to catastrophic, even deadly, complications. Pyomyoma is a rare but potentially fatal condition resulting from infarction and infection of a fibroid through bacterial seeding and direct, hematogenous, or lymphatic dissemination.

Introduction: distal radius fractures are the most common in upper extremities. Therefore, it is important to standardize radiographic measures for their surgical approach. This study assessed the intra/interobserver reproducibility of radiographic parameters associated with surgical success of distal radius fractures.

Introduction And Aims: An anastomotic leak is one of the most dreaded complications in colorectal surgery because it increases postoperative morbidity and mortality. The aim of the present study was to identify whether indocyanine green fluorescence angiography (ICGFA) reduced the anastomotic dehiscence rate in colorectal surgery.
Material And Methods: A retrospective study on patients that underwent colorectal surgery with colonic resection or low anterior resection and primary anastomosis, within the time frame of January 2019 and September 2021, was conducted.

There is scarce information related to transplacental antibody transfer against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) with different homologous and heterologous vaccination schemes. This study aimed to correlate the magnitude of transplacental transfer anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in different homologous and heterologous schemes. An observational cross-sectional study was developed to identify pregnant women vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2.

Introduction: People living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) may suffer more severe symptoms of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) due to their immunocompromised status, even if they are undetectable. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection has been reported as an independent factor associated with higher mortality in patients with COVID-19. The present study aims to describe the clinical characteristics of PLHIV and COVID-19 in one center in Mexico.

Objective: To explore the diagnostic utility of 31 electrocardiogram (ECG) criteria for detecting echocardiographic (Echo) left ventricular geometry using accuracy.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included consecutive adults (> 18 years) that were classified by Echo left ventricular geometry as normal (NL), concentric remodeling (CR), concentric hypertrophy (CH), and eccentric hypertrophy (EH). Thirty-one state-of-the-art ECG criteria for Echo left ventricular hypertrophy were calculated.

Introduction: 15-20% of patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were not satisfied and the most common causes were residual pain and limited function. Epidural analgesia or peripheral nerve blocks have traditionally been used as analgesia.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of infiltration with epinephrine, ketorolac, morphine and ropivacaine solution in postoperative total knee replacement patients.

There are measurement tools that support the diagnosis such as the KT1000; however, it still has some limitations, since it only manages to measure a single axis of movement, while the "pivot-shift" maneuver manages to capture more information about the state of the ligament, as it allows to evaluate the three axes of movement of the joint. The "pivot-shift" maneuver lacks a standard execution, therefore it can produce disagreement between evaluators; this creates the need for a tool capable of standardizing the maneuver, while providing an interpretable measurement.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is more frequently manifesting as one of the main complications of cirrhosis of the liver, its principal risk factor. There have been modifications in its incidence over the past decade, related to an epidemiologic transition in the etiology of cirrhosis, with a decrease in the prevalence of hepatitis C and an increase in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) as a cause, as well as the development of HCC in the non-cirrhotic liver due to NAFLD. Genetic markers associated with the disease have been identified, and surveillance and diagnosis have improved.

Background: Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis is an appropriate technique for older adults and its success is mainly based on the correct exchange technique. However, individuals may present barriers to compliance, due to deterioration of physical and cognitive function, depression, and prevalence of visual impairments.
Objective And Methodology: A descriptive correlational study was conducted to determine the relationship between adherence to the continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis procedure and the limitations of care for older adults with chronic renal failure or their caregivers.
