Cerebral venous thrombosis is a rare condition, with identified and described risk factors mainly associated with prothrombotic states, with a wide variety of symptomatology based on the site affected, the most common being intracranial hypertensive syndrome, focal or encephalopathy. Cortical veins of the superficial system are among the least frequently affected veins. The following describes a case of painful facial symptoms progressing to a focal syndrome associated with a history of chronic oral contraceptive use, with thrombosis of vein of Trolard detected and successfully treated with oral anticoagulants.

The primary aim of the study is to determine the rate of traction-related complications in hip arthroscopy (HA) including perineal compression and distraction injuries, and the secondary objective is to report the incidence of complications in HA found on the studies selected by a systematic review. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines were used for data extraction from the PubMed and Cochrane databases obtained in February 2022. Reviewers extracted the title, author, date of publication, number of hips treated and number of complications describing the affected area, nerve and soft tissue injury related to traction.

Introduction: During the height of the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic, some renal replacement therapy (RRT) modalities were insufficient, forcing medical centers to diversify the RRT modalities offered. In this study, we reported the outcomes of chronic peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and acute PD in critically ill patients during COVID-19 pandemic in a tertiary care medical center in Mexico.
Methods: This descriptive, longitudinal, observational, retrospective study included 47 adult patients with atypical pneumonia in a tertiary care medical center in Mexico during the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduction: Clinical signs and symptoms (CSS) of infection are a standard part of wound care, yet they can have low specificity and sensitivity, which can further vary due to clinician knowledge, experience, and education. Wound photography is becoming more widely adopted to support wound care. Thermography has been studied in the medical literature to assess signs of perfusion and inflammation for decades.

Background: Neonatal intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) may evolve into posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus and cause neurodevelopmental impairment, becoming a common complication of premature infants, occurring in up to 40% of preterm infants weighing less than 1,500 g at birth. Around 10 to 15% of preterm infants develop severe (grades III-IV) IVH. These infants are at high risk of developing posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus.

Background: CDKL5 deficiency syndrome is caused by pathogenic variants in the CDKL5 gene, with a variable clinical spectrum ranging from patients with characteristics of autism spectrum disorder to early-onset epilepsy refractory to treatment. Initially, until the gene was discovered, it was considered an atypical form of Rett syndrome. This study aimed to describe the clinical and molecular heterogeneity in CDLK5 disorders among three female patients with CDKL5 pathogenic variants.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a high-burden infectious disease with high prevalence and mortality rates. The first-line anti-TB drugs include isoniazid (INH), rifampicin (RMP), pyrazinamide (PZA), and ethambutol (EMB). At present, the standard method of blood sampling for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) analysis is venipuncture.

Antibiotics are among the most utilized drugs in pediatrics. Nonetheless, there is a lack in pharmacokinetics information for this population, and dosing criteria may vary between healthcare centers. Physiological variability associated with maturation in pediatrics makes it challenging to reach a consensus on adequate dosing, which is further accentuated in more vulnerable groups, such as critically ill or oncology patients.

Background: Paediatric early warning systems (PEWS) aid in the early identification of clinical deterioration events in children admitted to hospital. We aimed to investigate the effect of PEWS implementation on mortality due to clinical deterioration in children with cancer in 32 resource-limited hospitals across Latin America.
Methods: Proyecto Escala de Valoración de Alerta Temprana (Proyecto EVAT) is a quality improvement collaborative to implement PEWS in hospitals providing childhood cancer care.
Background: Pediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS) assist early detection of clinical deterioration in hospitalized children with cancer. Relevant to successful PEWS implementation, the "stages of change" model characterizes stakeholder support for PEWS based on willingness and effort to adopt the new practice.
Methods: At five resource-limited pediatric oncology centers in Latin America, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 71 hospital staff involved in PEWS implementation.

In 2022, several countries reported an increase in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections. We assessed the clinical characteristics and outcomes of infants hospitalized with RSV and compared them with infants hospitalized between 2009 and 2015. No significant differences in underlying disorders, intensive care unit admission rates and mortality were observed suggesting currently circulating RSV strains do not show heightened virulence.

Background: Pediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS) aid in identification of deterioration in hospitalized children with cancer but are underutilized in resource-limited settings. Proyecto EVAT is a multicenter quality improvement (QI) collaborative in Latin America to implement PEWS. This study investigates the relationship between hospital characteristics and time required for PEWS implementation.

Patients with diffuse connective tissue diseases frequently develop interstitial lung disease, which carries a worse prognosis and shortens survival. High-resolution computed tomography is the first-choice test, and is competitive with histopathology, however, the cost and radiation may limit its use, particularly for screening. Lung ultrasound is a rapid, accessible, reproducible, and inexpensive study that is useful for diagnosis of interstitial lung disease.

Background/aim: Arylamine N-acetyltransferase 1 and 2 (NAT1 and NAT2) are drug-metabolizing enzymes that play a key role in the development of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
Materials And Methods: This study evaluated NAT1 and NAT2 mRNA and protein expression and their enzymatic activity in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from patients with ALL (n=20) and healthy children (n=19) and explored the mechanisms that regulate these enzymes in ALL such as microRNAs (miR-1290, miR-26b) and SNPs.
Results: PBMC from patients with ALL showed a decrease in NAT1 mRNA and protein expression.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted healthcare delivery worldwide, including pediatric cancer care, with a disproportionate effect in resource-limited settings. This study evaluates its impact on existing quality improvement (QI) programs.
Methods: We conducted 71 semi-structured interviews of key stakeholders at five resource-limited pediatric oncology centers participating in a collaborative to implement Pediatric Early Warning System (PEWS).
Background: Wounds are a significant health issue, and reliable and safe strategies to promote repair are needed. Clinical trials have demonstrated that local insulin promotes healing in acute and chronic wounds (ie, reductions of 7% to 40% versus placebo). However, the trials' sample sizes have prevented drawing solid conclusions.

Introduction: Heart failure in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) is two to three times more common than in individuals without NVAF.
Objective: To identify cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRF) and antithrombotic treatment in patients with NVAF and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), and to determine if there were differences according to gender.
Methods: CMRF, pro-thrombotic risk, bleeding risk, and antithrombotic therapy were globally analyzed and according to gender.
