Background: According to the common tenet, tumour progression is a chronological process starting with lymphatic invasion. In this respect, the meaning of bone marrow micrometastases (BMM) in patients with lymph node negative colon cancer (CC) is unclear. This study examines the relationship of isolated tumour cells (ITC) in sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) and BMM in patients in early CC.

Characteristics of upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma in the context of bladder cancer: a narrative review.

Urothelial carcinomas (UC) arise from the urothelium that covers the proximal urethra, urinary bladder, and the upper urinary tract. In daily routine and clinical trials UC originating from different locations are often treated and investigated in the same manner. However, differences between the two locations seem to be apparent and may question in handling them as a single oncologic entity.

The Value of Sentinel Lymph Node Mapping for the Staging of Node-Negative Colon Cancer: Propensity Score and Mediation Analyses.

Objectives: Mediation analysis to assess the protective impact of sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping on prognosis and survival of patients with colon cancer through a more precise evaluation of the lymph node (LN) status.

Background: Up to 20% of patients with node-negative colon cancer develop disease recurrence. Conventional histopathological LN examination may be limited in describing the real metastatic burden of LN.

Compliance to the Surgical Safety Checklist over time in late and early adopters.

Aims: To compare the compliance of the Surgical Safety Checklist in two groups of users: early (Group A) and late (Group B) adopters, and to detect change over time.

Method: Observational study. We collected all Surgical Safety Checklist protocols in one calendar month period and, eight months later, we repeated collection for another month.

Problems of a preclinical treatment algorithm for diving accidents: analysis of the Swiss hyperbaric situation.

Following recent changes in the medical infrastructure in Switzerland, the number of hyperbaric facilities fell from ten to two, and the existing algorithms for telemedical assistance of divers required review. A retrospective study of decompression illness (DCI) from 2004 to 2008 showed that many divers were asymptomatic at the start of hyperbaric treatment. Because of this and recent publications, we may need to modify in the future the decision to recompress a diver.
