The treatment landscape for IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is rapidly evolving with the introduction of novel therapies targeting diverse disease pathways. Some have already been approved in different countries, while others are under investigation in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with encouraging results. However, almost all performed RCTs have included only patients with refractory non-nephrotic proteinuria and preserved renal function.

Thyroid carcinoma (TC) is the most common endocrine neoplasia, with its incidence increasing in the last 40 years worldwide. The determination of genetic and/or protein markers for thyroid carcinoma could increase diagnostic precision. Accumulated evidence shows that Protein kinase C alpha (PKCα) contributes to tumorigenesis and therapy resistance in cancer.

Background: Packed red blood cell (pRBC) transfusions in patients undergoing surgery for cancer are given to treat anemia or acute hemorrhage. Evidence indicates that pRBC transfusions are associated with poor perioperative and oncological outcomes. The ARCA-1 (Perioperative Care in the Cancer Patient-1) study was designed to test the association between perioperative pRBC transfusions and postoperative morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing cancer surgery.

Background: The understanding of how pharyngeal pressure is transmitted to the trachea with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) implementation and the behavior of tracheal pressure in the presence of mouth leaks remains limited. This study aimed to assess the impact of HFNC administration on tracheal pressure by comparing measurements taken with open and closed mouth with varying flows.
Methods: A crossover study was conducted between March 2019 and June 2023.

In Latin America, prostate cancer is the third most common cancer overall and the most common in men, with the highest mortality rate of all cancers. In 2022, there were approximately 22,985 new prostate cancer cases and 61,056 deaths from prostate cancer in the region. Patients with metastatic disease that is resistant to cure by castration now have multiple therapeutic options, including poly-ADP ribose polymerase inhibitors.

Background: Cow's milk allergy (CMA) is the most complex and common food allergy in infants. Elimination of cow's milk from the diet and replacement with a specialized formula for infants with cow's milk allergy who cannot be breastfed is an established approach to minimize the risk of severe allergic reactions while avoiding nutritional deficiencies. Given the availability of multiple options, such as extensively hydrolyzed cow's milk-based formula (eHF-CM), aminoacid formula (AAF), hydrolyzed rice formula (HRF), and soy formula (SF), there is some uncertainty regarding which formula might represent the most suitable choice with respect to health outcomes.

A proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL) is a key member of the tumor necrosis factor superfamily of cytokines and plays a central role in B-cell survival, proliferation, and Ig class switching. Recently, there has been increasing interest in the role of APRIL and the related cytokine B-cell activating factor in several glomerular diseases, because of their importance in the above processes. The therapeutic inhibition of APRIL represents a potentially attractive immunomodulatory approach that may abrogate deleterious host immune responses in autoimmune diseases while leaving other important functions of humoral immunity intact, such as memory B-cell function and responses to vaccination, in contrast to B-cell-depleting strategies.

Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinomas (PRMCs) are extremely rare tumors with limited understanding of their pathogenesis and biological behavior. We describe a case of a 50-year-old female patient who underwent surgical treatment. The patient had a history of previous surgeries for mesenteric mucinous cystadenoma, without evidence of recurrence.
