We here explore adverse events following immunization (AEFI) in children with mitochondrial disease (MD) recruited from two expertise centers in Austria (SALK) and The Netherlands (RUMC). Parents completed a questionnaire on the type of immunizations received and AEFI in a post-vaccination exposure period of seven days. 95 individuals were invited to this study, of whom 30 (median age 13.

Background: Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD), a rare form of non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis with heterogenous clinical features, arises from precursor cells that give rise to cells of the histiocytic and monocytic lineages. An association with hematological neoplasms has been reported. Testicular RDD is rarely described, with only 9 reported cases in the literature.

Background The reliability of the recommendations affecting the clinical decisions is being continuously weighed in everyday practice (Gershlick, 2018). The objective of our study was to assess the consistency of the evidence behind the recommendations. Methods We narrowed our focus on the pharmacotherapeutic aspects of the most recent 38 European Society of Cardiology guidelines and analyzed the correlation between the level of evidence (LoE) classified as A, B and C and the class of recommendations (CoR) subdivided into I, IIa, IIb and III.

Objective: We aimed to identify the rate of true SI in a large population with peripheral artery disease (PAD) as well as the subsequent use of such drugs and the impact on cardiovascular outcomes. Methods: Patients with PAD and reported SI were retrospectively classified in those with “probable/possible” (pp) and “unlikely” (u) SI, after the application of the “Statin Myalgia Clinical Index Score” (SAMS-CI).

Cell surface syndecans and glypicans play important roles in the development and prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC). Their soluble forms from proteoglycan shedding can be detected in blood and have been proposed as new prognostic biomarkers in several cancer entities. However, studies on circulating syndecan-1 (SDC1) and glypican-4 (GPC4) in CRC are limited.

Idiopathic Multicentric Castleman Disease (iMCD) is a potentially life-threatening systemic disease whose complex symptomatology is due to cytokine dysregulation. We, herein, present a case of severe iMCD occurring in a previously healthy young man shortly after mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, responding to interleukin-6 blockade with siltuximab. Six months after the completion of siltuximab, the patient remained without any signs of iMCD or inflammation, indicating a temporal trigger of the disease.

Background: Patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) are at increased risk of cardiovascular events and mortality compared with non-PAD populations. Blood based biomarkers may improve clinical risk assessment. Recently, we found significant associations of serum glypican-4 (GPC4) with cardiovascular events and mortality in coronary angiography patients.

Awareness of racial/ethnic disparities represents a key challenge for healthcare systems that attempt to provide effective healthcare and to reduce existing inequalities in the use of and adherence to guideline-recommended cardiovascular drugs to improve clinical outcomes for cardiovascular disease (CVD). In this review, we describe important racial/ethnic differences between and within ethnic groups in the prevalence, risk factors, haemostatic factors, anti-inflammatory and endothelial markers, recurrence, and outcomes of CVD. We discuss important differences in the selection, doses, and response [efficacy and adverse drug reactions (ADRs)] in ethnically diverse patients treated with antithrombotics or lipid-lowering drugs.

In vitro studies can help reveal the biochemical pathways underlying the origin of volatile indicators of numerous diseases. The key objective of this study is to identify the potential biomarkers of gastric cancer. For this purpose, the volatilomic signatures of two human gastric cancer cell lines, AGS (human gastric adenocarcinoma) and SNU-1 (human gastric carcinoma), and one normal gastric mucosa cell line (GES-1) were investigated.

Serum glypican-4 (GPC4) has been identified as an insulin-sensitizing adipokine serving as a marker for body mass index and insulin resistance in humans. The association of circulating GPC4 with kidney function is to date largely unexplored. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the association between serum GPC4 and prevalent as well future kidney function in a prospective cohort study.

Healthcare workers (HCWs) worldwide are known to have an increased risk of contracting the disease within the working environment and, therefore, the seroprevalence in this population is of particular interest. We thus aimed to analyse SARS-CoV-2-specific antibody dynamics in Vorarlberg HCWs.

The present article provides additional prospective data on the association of serum glypican-4 (GPC4) with the incidence of future major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), vascular mortality, and overall mortality in a cohort of 760 coronary angiography patients.

The use of phase-adapted wound dressings represents best practice (BP) in chronic wound treatment. However, efficacy is often limited and associated care requirements are high. Cold atmospheric plasmajet (CAP-jet) is a promising new therapeutic tool for these wounds.

Background And Aims: Glypican-4 (GPC4) is a cell surface protein, but can be released into circulation under various clinical conditions. The association of circulating GPC4 with the risk of future cardiovascular events or death is unclear. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the association between serum GPC4 and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), vascular mortality, and all-cause mortality in a prospective cohort study.

Background And Aims: Apolipoprotein D (apoD) is a lipocalin exerting neuroprotective effects. However, the relevance of apoD in respect to cardiovascular risk is largely unexplored. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the ability of apoD to predict future all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and cardiovascular events.

In patients with intermittent claudication, exercise training ameliorates inflammation by reducing oxidative stress. A total of 41 patients with intermittent claudication (Rutherford 3) were included in the study (with 21 patients treated by endovascular revascularization (ER), and 20 patients without ER). All patients were referred to home-based exercise training.

Introduction: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is higher in peripheral artery disease (PAD) than in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients, and PAD overall confers higher cardiovascular risk than CAD. How cardiovascular risk compares between PAD and CAD patients when analyses are stratified by the presence of type 2 diabetes is unclear and is addressed in the present study.
Research Design And Methods: We prospectively recorded major cardiovascular events (MACE; ie, cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction or stroke) over 10.

Inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) are a heterogeneous group of rare disorders characterized by disruption of metabolic pathways. To date, data on incidence and prevalence of IMDs are limited. Taking advantage of a functioning network within the Austrian metabolic group, our registry research aimed to update the data of the "Registry for Inherited Metabolic Disorders" started between 1985 and 1995 with retrospectively retrieved data on patients with IMDs according to the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism International Classification of Diseases 11 (SSIEM ICD11) catalogue.

Aim: Cholesterol-based risk prediction is often insufficient in cardiovascular disease (CVD) patients. Ceramides are a new kind of biomarkers for CVD. The Coronary Event Risk Test (CERT) is a validated cardiovascular risk predictor that uses only circulating ceramide levels, determined by coupled liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, to allocate patients into one of four risk categories.

Aim: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and coronary artery disease (CAD) are both caused by atherosclerosis. Serum lipids and lipoproteins are predictive of the development of atherosclerosis but it is not clear if they differ in the two manifestations, PAD and CAD. We tested whether a more detailed characterization of the lipid and lipoprotein patterns of PAD and CAD allows a clear differentiation between the two atherosclerotic phenotypes.
