Purpose: Shouldice Repair for inguinal hernias results in a low recurrence rate; however, little is known about the risk factors for these relapses. In the present study, we reviewed all patient's undergoing a reoperation for recurrence after a primary Shouldice Repair.
Methods: Patients undergoing recurrent inguinal hernia repair from 2013 to 2017 were identified.

Background: Studies have evaluated long-term occurrence of incisional hernia, cosmesis, and postoperative pain after single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC). However, the follow-up periods were rarely defined longer than 12 months. The authors performed a cohort study to evaluate hernia rate and cosmesis in a prolonged follow-up period.

The aim was to conduct a systematic review of literature and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing short-term outcomes of bipolar hemiarthroplasty (HA) through SuperPATH and bipolar HA through conventional approaches (CAs) in patients with femoral neck fractures. The following PICO question was formulated: In human participants with femoral neck fractures, are the short-term outcomes of SuperPATH HA better than the short-term outcomes of CAs HA? The following databases were searched until 25 August 2023: PubMed, CNKI, CENTRAL of The Cochrane Library, Clinical trials, and Google Scholar. Quality assessment of the RCTs was performed, according to the Cochrane's Risk of Bias 2 tool and the recommendations of the GRADE system.

Purpose: The European Hernia Society guidelines of parastomal hernias, published in 2017, strongly recommend prophylactic synthetic non-absorbable mesh upon the construction of a permanent end colostomy to reduce the incidence of parastomal hernias. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the guidelines in Germany.
Methods: This is a retrospective multicentric analysis conducted in December 2022 at the University Hospital Brandenburg an der Havel.

Background: Pelvic floor training with biofeedback has been shown to significantly reduce symptoms of urinary incontinence. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pelvic floor training with the ACTICORE1 biofeedback device, which uses a noninsertable pelvic floor sensor with a digital interface.
Materials And Methods: A multicenter randomized controlled clinical pilot study in Germany was conducted between October 2021 and January 2022.

Objective: To investigate and identify risk factors and predictors for the difference in functional outcome and complications between total hip arthroplasty (THA) through minimally invasive and conventional approaches, using a meta-regression analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
Methods: A systematic review of the literature up to 31 July 2022 was performed. A meta-regression was conducted based on a random effects meta-analysis using the Hartung-Knapp-Sidik-Jonkman method.

Background: SuperPATH is a novel minimally invasive technique for hip replacement that is gaining increasing attention. The aim of this review was to determine the nature, extent, and quality of current research evidence on SuperPATH and to identify areas for further investigations.
Methods: A bibliometric search was conducted in PubMed up to 1 August 2023 using the search term "SuperPATH".

Introduction: Although the evidence is minimal, an abdominal binder is commonly prescribed after open incisional hernia repair (IHR) to reduce pain. This study aimed to investigate this common postoperative treatment.
Methods: The ABIHR-II trial was a national prospective, randomized, multicenter non-AMG/MPG pilot study with two groups of patients (wearing an abdominal binder (AB) for 2 weeks during daytime vs.

It has been revealed that the administration of an antimicrobial prophylaxis (AP) reduces the rate of surgical site (SSI) following colorectal cancer surgery. Nevertheless, the optimal timing of this medication remains unclear. The aim of this study was to determine more precisely the optimal time for administering antibiotics and to see if this could reduce the number of possible surgical site infections.

Despite the general success of anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions (ACL-R), there are still studies reporting a high failure rate. Orthopedic surgeons are therefore increasingly confronted with the treatment of ACL retears, which are often accompanied by other lesions, such as meniscus tears and cartilage damage and which, if overlooked, can lead to poor postoperative clinical outcomes. The literature shows a wide variety of causes for ACL-R failure.

Background: Surgery is the backbone of early-stage ovarian cancer (OC) management. However, in practice, there is disagreement about the extent of surgical staging and whether additional adjuvant treatment should be provided. As omitting relevant diagnostic or therapeutic procedures might lead to undertreatment, we aimed to structurally investigate treatment practice in addition to prognostic factors in a multicentre series of patients (pts) diagnosed with early-stage OC.

SuperPATH is a novel approach to the hip joint that needs to be compared to other known surgical approaches. To conduct a network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing short-term outcomes of SuperPATH, direct anterior (DAA), and posterior/ posterolateral approaches (PA) in total hip joint arthroplasty (THA). We performed a systematic review on PubMed, CNKI, Embase, The Cochrane Library, Clinical trials, and Google Scholar up to November 30th, 2021.

Background: Perforated colonic diverticulitis with purulent or fecal contamination (PCD) is a surgical emergency with high morbidity and mortality. Traditionally, open surgery as a Hartmann procedure (HP) has been performed. Feasibility of the laparoscopic approach (LA) either with primary anastomosis (PA) or as an HP has been shown, but evidence and implementation into daily routine remain low.

Notwithstanding a decrease in the incidence and mortality of cardiovascular diseases during the last decades, notable disparities in health outcomes depending on a patient´s socioeconomic position persist and are most visible in acute myocardial infarction and ischemic heart disease. Education is a pivotal indicator of the socioeconomic position. Effects of the social determinants of health on the incidence, prevalence and mortality of cardiovascular diseases were previously effectually investigated and shown to be inversely associated but evidence on non-fatal health outcomes such as heart failure, ability to return to work or rehospitalizations still remain insufficiently examined.

Introduction: Trocar insertion during laparoscopy may lead to complications such as bleeding, bowel puncture and fascial defects with subsequent trocar site hernias. It is under discussion whether there is a difference in the extent of the trauma and thus in the size of the fascia defect between blunt and sharp trocars. But the level of evidence is low.

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a prognostically relevant neuropsychiatric syndrome that occurs in the course of acute or chronic liver disease. Besides ascites and variceal bleeding, it is the most serious complication of decompensated liver cirrhosis. Ammonia and inflammation are major triggers for the appearance of HE, which in patients with liver cirrhosis involves pathophysiologically low-grade cerebral oedema with oxidative/nitrosative stress, inflammation and disturbances of oscillatory networks in the brain.

Background: In bariatric surgery the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) has been proven to be a safe and effective approach. Currently the optimal size of the linear-stapled gastrojejunostomy (GJ) and its impact on weight loss are not known due to a lack of clinical trials on that topic. We aimed to provide evidence on the impact of the GJ size in terms of gastric bypass weight loss.

Background: Our aim was to compare the outcome between suture button (SB) stabilization and syndesmotic screw fixation (SF) in patients with acute syndesmotic diastasis.
Methods: A systematic literature search up to June 30, 2021, was performed to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing outcomes of SB with SF techniques in patients with acute syndesmotic diastasis. We calculated mean differences for continuous outcomes, using the Hartung-Knapp-Sidik-Jonkman method, and odds ratio for dichotomous outcomes, using the Mantel-Haenszel method.
