Precursors of social emotional functioning among full-term and preterm infants at 12 months: Early infant withdrawal behavior and symptoms of maternal depression.

This study forms part of a longitudinal investigation of early infant social withdrawal, maternal symptoms of depression and later child social emotional functioning. The sample consisted of a group of full-term infants (N=238) and their mothers, and a group of moderately premature infants (N=64) and their mothers. At 3 months, the infants were observed with the Alarm Distress Baby Scale (ADBB) and the mothers completed the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS).

Objectives: The aims of this study were to assess the epidemiology of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients treated with transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and included in the large prospective SOURCE XT (SAPIEN XT Aortic Bioprosthesis Multi-Region Outcome Registry) study and to evaluate their outcomes according to the presence of pre-existing or new-onset AF (NOAF) (defined as AF occurring within 30 days after TAVR).

Background: Data on the epidemiology and clinical impact of AF in patients undergoing TAVR are scant and limited to small retrospective studies.

Methods: The SOURCE XT study is a multicenter, prospective registry of consecutive patients treated with the SAPIEN XT valve at 99 sites in 17 countries.

Introduction: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) requires prompt treatment, but its diagnosis is complex. Improvement of bacterial CAP diagnosis by biomarkers has been evaluated using chest X-ray infiltrate as the CAP gold standard, producing conflicting results. We analyzed the diagnostic accuracy of biomarkers in suspected CAP adults visiting emergency departments for whom CAP diagnosis was established by an adjudication committee which founded its judgment on a systematic multidetector thoracic CT scan.

Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae have been isolated from many regions of the world. Epidemiological studies are being conducted in Europe, North America, and Asia. No study has however been conducted in Africa to determine the prevalence and distribution of ESBLs on the continent.

Personal protective equipment for the Ebola virus disease: A comparison of 2 training programs.

Background: Personal protective equipment (PPE) for preventing Ebola virus disease (EVD) includes basic PPE (B-PPE) and enhanced PPE (E-PPE). Our aim was to compare conventional training programs (CTPs) and reinforced training programs (RTPs) on the use of B-PPE and E-PPE.

CD4 T cells with effector memory phenotype and function develop in the sterile environment of the fetus.

The T cell compartment is considered to be naïve and dedicated to the development of tolerance during fetal development. We have identified and characterized a population of fetally developed CD4 T cells with an effector memory phenotype (TEM), which are present in cord blood. This population is polyclonal and has phenotypic features similar to those of conventional adult memory T cells, such as CD45RO expression.

Long-term tolerability and efficacy of degarelix: 5-year results from a phase III extension trial with a 1-arm crossover from leuprolide to degarelix.

Objective: To demonstrate the safety and efficacy of up to 5 years of degarelix treatment and the effects of crossing over from leuprolide to degarelix in the extension phase of a phase III pivotal 1-year trial.

Methods: Patients receiving degarelix who completed the 1-year trial continued on 80 mg (n = 125) or 160 mg (n = 126) maintenance doses. Patients who received leuprolide were rerandomized to degarelix 240/80 mg (n = 69) or 240/160 mg (n = 65).

Social withdrawal at 1 year is associated with emotional and behavioural problems at 3 and 5 years: the Eden mother-child cohort study.

The objective of the study was to examine how social withdrawal in infants aged 12 months predicted emotional and behavioural problems at ages 3 and 5 years. The sample included 1,586 infants from the French Eden Mother-Child Cohort Study who had a measure of social withdrawal with the Alarm Distress BaBy scale at age 1 year; among these children, emotional and behavioural difficulties were rated by mothers using the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire (SDQ) at 3 years for 1,257 (79 %) children and at 5 years for 1,123 (72 %) children. Social withdrawal behaviour at age 1 year was significantly associated with the SDQ behavioural disorder scale at 3 years, independently of a host of familial and child temperament confounders.

Treatment - mother-infant relationship psychotherapy.

In this chapter, we briefly describe several modes of parent-infant-psychotherapy, an efficient way of treating parent-infant relationship disorders. We then focus on treatment for postnatally depressed mothers. Perinatal depression defines an episode of major or minor depression occurring during pregnancy or the first 12 months after birth.

Introduction: We evaluated the effect of the presence of a double J stent on the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) in the treatment of lumbar ureteral stones.

Material And Methods: Between January 2007 and February 2012, we performed a retrospective cohort study. Forty-four patients were treated by ESWL for lumbar ureteral stones and included into two groups for the analysis: group 1, non-stented (n = 27) and group 2, stented patients (n = 17).

The learning curve of transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsies: implications for training programs.

Objective: To assess the quality of specimens obtained from prostate biopsies performed by urology residents and evaluate the number of procedures required to perform high-quality transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsies.

Materials And Methods: Between 2006 and 2009, 770 patients underwent TRUS-guided prostate biopsies in our academic center. During the 6 semesters of this period, 24 residents (4 per semester) performed 1 session of 5.
