Introduction: Methimazole is an antithyroid drug known to cause hematological toxicity, including agranulocytosis and, very rarely, pancytopenia. We herein present a case of a patient with Graves' Disease (GD) who developed methimazole-induced pancytopenia.

Case Report: A 53-year-old Peruvian woman with GD, initially treated with methimazole 20 mg BID, experienced odynophagia, fever, and malaise after 37 days of treatment.

Objectives: Biliary access refractory to conventional cannulation techniques is a challenging clinical scenario for most endoscopists. The endoscopic-percutaneous rendezvous technique is an optimal alternative with high success rates and low complication rates in expert hands, however its routine use in the West, mainly in Latin America, is still limited. Hepatic Fasciola is a frequent disease in the Peruvian highlands. We present a case of hepatic Fasciola from the Andean zone of La Libertad, with symptoms of several months of evolution with pain in the right hypochondrium, jaundice and coluria. An abdominal CT scan was performed, demonstrating a liver mass probable neoplasm, and was referred to the Institute of Neoplastic Diseases.

[Utility of the PANC 3 score as a predictor of severity in patients with acute pancreatitis].

Objective: To demonstrate that the PANC 3 score is useful as a predictor of severity in patients with acute pancreatitis.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective, observational study of diagnostic test type carried out in the Gastroenterology service in the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo which included a total of 160 patients with acute pancreatitis. Sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV of the PANC 3 score were calculated.

Objectives: To evaluate the preventive effect of Sacha Inchi oil (SIO) on 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced colon carcinogenesis (CC) in Holtzman rats.

Materials And Methods: Experimental study with 28 Holtzman male albino rats randomly distributed into 4 groups: a positive control group exposed to DMH (C1), a negative control group exposed to SIO at 150 uL/kg/day (C2), and two experimental groups exposed to DMH with SIO at 150 uL/kg/day (E1) and SIO at 300 uL/kg/day (E2). The DMH was applied for 8 weeks and the total induction time was 22 weeks.

[Acute respiratory distress syndrome due to Clostridium difficile colitis: a case report and review of the literature].

Clostridium difficile is a major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. We report a patient with complicated Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) who developed rapidly progressive acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), for which CDI was the only identifiable source. CDI should be considered in the differential diagnosis for anyone with diarrhea who presents especially in high-risk groups such as the elderly, hospitalized patients, or those who have had a history of CDI.
