Methimazole-Induced Pancytopenia in a Patient with Graves' Disease: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Introduction: Methimazole is an antithyroid drug known to cause hematological toxicity, including agranulocytosis and, very rarely, pancytopenia. We herein present a case of a patient with Graves' Disease (GD) who developed methimazole-induced pancytopenia.

Case Report: A 53-year-old Peruvian woman with GD, initially treated with methimazole 20 mg BID, experienced odynophagia, fever, and malaise after 37 days of treatment.

[Endoscopic-percutaneous rendezvous procedure for the management of difficult biliary tract: experience in an endoscopic center in Lima-Peru].

Objectives: Biliary access refractory to conventional cannulation techniques is a challenging clinical scenario for most endoscopists. The endoscopic-percutaneous rendezvous technique is an optimal alternative with high success rates and low complication rates in expert hands, however its routine use in the West, mainly in Latin America, is still limited. The aim of our study was to evaluate the feasibility, efficacy and safety of endoscopic-percutaneous rendezvous in the management of difficult biliary tract in an endoscopic center in Peru.

[Environmental health: an educational need for Peruvian physicians].

Introduction: The implementation of courses related to environmental health in undergraduate curricula favors the formation of physicians more committed to the impact of climate change on health. The aim of the study was to identify the prevalence of environmental health courses in Peruvian medical schools, as well as their comparison with air quality levels for each region of the country.

[Hepatic tumor or giant liver fascciola?: case report].

Hepatic Fasciola is a frequent disease in the Peruvian highlands. We present a case of hepatic Fasciola from the Andean zone of La Libertad, with symptoms of several months of evolution with pain in the right hypochondrium, jaundice and coluria. An abdominal CT scan was performed, demonstrating a liver mass probable neoplasm, and was referred to the Institute of Neoplastic Diseases.

[Utility of the PANC 3 score as a predictor of severity in patients with acute pancreatitis].

Objective: To demonstrate that the PANC 3 score is useful as a predictor of severity in patients with acute pancreatitis.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective, observational study of diagnostic test type carried out in the Gastroenterology service in the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo which included a total of 160 patients with acute pancreatitis. Sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV of the PANC 3 score were calculated.

[Associated factors to the inadequate response to hepatitis B vaccine in HIV patients].

Objective: To establish the relationship among age, sex, body mass index, consumption of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes with the inadequate response to the vaccine against Hepatitis B in patients with HIV infection who were treated in the Clinical Unit of Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the Regional Hospital of Trujillo - Peru, from 2014 to 2015.

Materials And Methods: The study was observational, retrospective, cross-sectional, type cases and controls.

Results: In the vaccinated patients, it was found that the age ≥ 50 years old; with OR = 3.

[Effect of Sacha Inchi oil (Plukenetiavolubilis L.) on 1,2-dimethylhydrazine-induced colon carcinogenesis in Holtzman rats].

Objectives: To evaluate the preventive effect of Sacha Inchi oil (SIO) on 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced colon carcinogenesis (CC) in Holtzman rats.

Materials And Methods: Experimental study with 28 Holtzman male albino rats randomly distributed into 4 groups: a positive control group exposed to DMH (C1), a negative control group exposed to SIO at 150 uL/kg/day (C2), and two experimental groups exposed to DMH with SIO at 150 uL/kg/day (E1) and SIO at 300 uL/kg/day (E2). The DMH was applied for 8 weeks and the total induction time was 22 weeks.

[An adolescent with lumbosacral instability due to the presence of a hydatid cyst: a case report].

Hydatidosis, caused by Echinococcus granulosus, affects the spinal column in 0.5-2% of all cases, with the sacral column being a rare location typically observed only in adults. The case is reported of a 14-year-old boy from Juliaca (Puno, Peru) who presented with chronic lower back pain and cauda equina syndrome.

[Acute respiratory distress syndrome due to Clostridium difficile colitis: a case report and review of the literature].

Clostridium difficile is a major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. We report a patient with complicated Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) who developed rapidly progressive acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), for which CDI was the only identifiable source. CDI should be considered in the differential diagnosis for anyone with diarrhea who presents especially in high-risk groups such as the elderly, hospitalized patients, or those who have had a history of CDI.

[Association between appendiceal obstruction and the morphological type of acute appendicitis].

Objective: Determine if the morphological type of appendicitis is associated with the type of appendiceal obstruction.

Material And Methods: A descriptive, observational and prospective study was conducted at the Hospital Belén of Trujillo, during the year 2013.

Results: There were 398 cases that took part of the study.
