Purpose: The management of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) at reference centers with specialized multidisciplinary tumor boards (MTB) improves patient survival. The German Cancer Society (DKG) certifies sarcoma centers in German-speaking countries, promoting high standards of care. This study investigated the variability in treatment recommendations for localized STS across different German-speaking tertiary sarcoma centers.

Objective: Splenectomy is regularly performed in total and distal pancreatectomy due to technical reasons, lymph node dissection and radicality of the operation. However, the spleen serves as an important organ for competent immune function, and its removal is associated with an increased incidence of cancer and a worse outcome in some cancer entities (Haematologica 99:392-398, 2014; Dis Colon Rectum 51:213-217, 2008; Dis Esophagus 21:334-339, 2008). The impact of splenectomy in pancreatic cancer is not fully resolved (J Am Coll Surg 188:516-521, 1999; J Surg Oncol 119:784-793, 2019).

Objective: Childhood food allergy is increasing in western societies. Preventing and managing food allergies is therefore essential for both parents and children. Given the limited previous research on parents' experiences of food allergy prevention in early childhood, this study aimed to develop a grounded theory to understand the experiences and interactions of families whose children are at risk of, or have been diagnosed with, food allergy.

Previously, addition of isatuximab (Isa) to standard-of-care lenalidomide-bortezomib-dexamethasone (RVd) in transplant-eligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma in the GMMG-HD7 trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03617731) resulted in a significant increase of minimal residual disease negativity (MRD-) rates after induction therapy. A total of 662 patients were randomly assigned to receive induction therapy with Isa-RVd (n = 331) or RVd (n = 329), followed by single or tandem autologous stem-cell transplant and second random assignment to maintenance with lenalidomide alone or Isa-lenalidomide.

Background: There is a high level of evidence that a short time to surgery (TTS) improves the outcome for patients with hip fractures. Accordingly, recommendations for timely treatment have been included in national guidelines. As patient characteristics appear to be similar, it seems reasonable that these guidelines are applicable to other fracture entities, such as knee periprosthetic femoral fracture (PPF).

The Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group International (PSOGI) previously issued a recommendation endorsing cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for treating diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (DMPM). However, broader acceptance of this approach, particularly within some segments of medical oncology, remains limited. To address this, PSOGI initiated a multisociety consensus effort, involving multidisciplinary International Societies, to strengthen and expand the endorsement of CRS-HIPEC for DMPM.

Background And Objective: Up to 50% of patients with prostate cancer experience prostate-specific antigen (PSA) relapse following primary radical prostatectomy (RP). Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography (PET) is increasingly being used for staging after RP owing to its high detection rate. Our aim was to compare outcomes for patients who received salvage radiotherapy (sRT) with versus without PSMA PET guidance.

Assignment of patients diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) to the 2022 European LeukemiaNet (ELN) favorable genetic risk group has important clinical implications, as allogeneic stem cell transplantation in first complete remission (CR) is not advised due to a relatively good outcome of patients receiving chemotherapy alone and transplant-associated mortality. However, not all favorable genetic risk patients experience long-term relapse-free survival (RFS), making recognition of patients who would most likely be cured of high importance. We analyzed 297 patients aged <60 years with AML classified as 2022 ELN favorable genetic risk who achieved a CR and had RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and gene mutation data from diagnostic samples available (Alliance trial A152010).

Purpose: In this study, a comprehensive analysis of costs of chronic kidney disease (CKD) was performed, to understand factors associated with the economic burden of the disease in a multicentre international framework.
Methods: The impact on costs of demographics, socio-economics, clinical, and functional variables was tested in 2204 subjects aged 75 years or more attending outpatient clinics in Europe using a multicentre 2-year prospective cohort study. By means of collected resources consumption and unit cost data a comprehensive cost database was built and then investigated using multilevel regression modeling.

Aims: Plasma NT-proBNP is an established marker of heart failure. Previous studies suggested urinary NT-proBNP has potential as marker of chronic heart failure as well. The objective of this study was to compare urinary NT-proBNP to plasma NT-proBNP in a real-life collective of patients with an ICD, especially regarding ICD-therapies.

Colorectal peritoneal metastases (CPM) are common in colorectal cancer patients. This article aims to provide GRADE guidelines for the use of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in two clinical situations: (1) To determine the value of adjuvant HIPEC for the prevention of CPM in high-risk colorectal cancer patients; (2) to determine the impact on survival of cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC followed by adjuvant systemic chemotherapy as compared to systemic chemotherapy alone in patients with CPM.

Aim: Numerous studies have evaluated elastography for the staging of liver fibrosis. Fewer studies were performed investigating the prognostic relevance using transient elastography (TE), although with promising results. This study was designed to evaluate the prognostic relevance of ARFI elastography.

We investigated 71 blood samples of 62 patients with various advanced cancer types and subjected enriched circulating tumor cells (CTCs) to organoid culture conditions. CTC-derived tumoroid models were characterized by DNA/RNA sequencing and immunohistochemistry, as well as functional drug testing.

The 2022 PSOGI (Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group International) and RENAPE (French Network for Rare Peritoneal Malignancies) consensus on hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) was a comprehensive effort aimed at standardizing treatment protocols for various peritoneal malignancies. This initiative is critical due to the wide range of technical variations in HIPEC procedures and the resulting need for standardization to ensure consistent and effective patient care and meaningful audit of multicenter data.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to the discontinuation of soccer activities at all levels of play. Injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are still one of the most severe injuries in soccer. The aim of this investigation was to analyze the changes in the incidence and mechanism of ACL injuries in professional and amateur soccer before and after the lockdown period.

Introduction: Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are established treatments for peritoneal surface malignancies, traditionally performed via laparotomy. Recent advancements in laparoscopic approaches (L-CRS + HIPEC) have shown promising results in selected patients.
Methods: The PSOGI registry, established in November 2019, collects data from specialized centers performing L-CRS + HIPEC.

Background: Current standard treatment concepts in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) are based on former studies using 2D and 3D treatment plans. However, modern radiation techniques allow for a more precise and individual dose application. Therefore, in a clearly defined patient population, de-intensified risk-adapted radiation is investigated.
