Osteoarticular Involvement in Childhood Brucellosis: Evaluation of Clinical, Laboratory and Radiologic Features of 185 Cases.

Backgrounds: Brucellosis is a systemic zoonotic disease. Osteoarticular (OA) system involvement is a common complication and the predominant manifestation of brucellosis in children. We aimed to evaluate the epidemiologic, demographic, clinical characteristics, and laboratory and radiologic findings of children with brucellosis and how these related to OA involvement.

Evaluation of the optimal sampling approach for HPV genotyping in circumcised heterosexual men with genital warts.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) causes a serious socioeconomic burden globally. However, there is currently no consensus on the optimal sampling method for HPVDNA genotyping in circumcised heterosexual men. This study aimed to determine the diagnostic efficacy of 6 different anatomic sampling sites in HPV DNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing of circumcised heterosexual men with genital warts.

Predictive value of oxidative, antioxidative, and inflammatory status for left ventricular systolic recovery after percutaneous coronary intervention for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the association between left ventricular ejection fraction recovery and the total oxidant status, total antioxidant capacity, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels.

Methods: A total of 264 ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients were classified into two groups according to baseline and 6-month follow-up left ventricular systolic function: reduced and recovery systolic function. Predictors of the recovery of left ventricular ejection fraction were determined by multivariate regression analyses.

Does rotation during catheter withdrawal in embryo transfer increase pregnancy rates?

Background: The aim of this study was to determine whether there is a difference in pregnancy rates between groups that we removed directly and removed by rotating the embryo transfer catheter 360°.

Methods: The study group consisted of 552 patients who were withdrawn by 360° rotation and 797 patients who were withdrawn without catheter rotation. All patients underwent one or two fresh ETs on day 3 or 5.

Prognostic value of HPV DNA in Urothelial Carcinoma of the Bladder: A Preliminary Report of 2-Year Follow-up Results.

Purpose: The association between the human papillomavirus (HPV) and anogenital carcinomas is well established. Assessing the role of hip arthrography in the treatment decision making for children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the role of hip arthrography in the treatment decision making for children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD).

Methods: A total of 47 consecutive children with LCPD (42 boys, 5 girls; mean age=7.5 years; range=6-10 years) who underwent operative treatment were included in the study.

Objective: Cisterna chyli is a pearl-shaped elongated lymphatic structure located at the level of L1-L2 vertebra just beneath the aorta (Hsu and Itkin, 2016 [1]). It receives lymphatic drainage of intestines and lower body structures (Loukas et al., 2007 [2]).

Comparative Results of Transurethral Incision with Transurethral Resection of The Prostate in Renal Transplant Recipients with Benign Prostate Hyperplasia.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the results of transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP) and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for the surgical treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) in patients with renal transplantation.

Materials And Methods: Between April 2009 and May 2016, BPH patients with renal transplants whose prostate volumes were less than 30 cm3 were treated surgically. Forty-seven patients received TURP and 32 received TUIP.

We aimed to evaluate the impact of the Recurrence Score(®) (RS) on treatment decisions and physician perceptions in Turkey.

Efficacy of silodosin in the treatment of distal ureteral stones 4 to 10 mm in diameter.

Purpose: Few studies have investigated the efficacy of silodosin, a recently introduced selective alpha 1-A adrenoceptor antagonist, in medical expulsive therapy (MET) for ureteral calculi. The results of these studies, which all evaluated the efficacy of 8 mg/day, indicate that silodosin is a potential treatment for ureteral calculi. This study investigated the efficacy of 4 mg/day of silodosin for MET of distal ureteral stones 4 to 10 mm in diameter.

Does intraperitoneal medical ozone preconditioning and treatment ameliorate the methotrexate induced nephrotoxicity in rats?

Methotrexate is a chemotherapeutic agent used for many cancer treatments. It leads to toxicity with its oxidative injury. The purpose of our study is investigating the medical ozone preconditioning and treatment has any effect on the methotrexate-induced kidneys by activating antioxidant enzymes in rats.

The protective effect of intraperitoneal medical ozone preconditioning and treatment on hepatotoxicity induced by methotrexate.

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of medical ozone preconditioning and treatment on the methotrexate acute induced hepatotoxicity in rats that has not reports elsewhere. Eighteen rats were randomly assigned into three equal groups; control, Mtx and Mtx with ozone. Hepatotoxicity was performed with a single dose of 20 mg/kg Mtx to group 2 and group 3 at the fifteenth day.

Complications and risk factors for mortality in penetrating abdominal firearm injuries: analysis of 120 cases.

Due to the high kinetic energy, of bullets and explosive gun particles, their paths through the abdomen (permanent cavity effect), and the blast effect (temporary cavity effect), firearm injuries (FAI) can produce damage not only in the organ they enter, but in the surrounding tissues as well. Since they change route after entering the body they may cause organ damage in locations other than those at the path of entry. For example, as a result of the crushing onto bone tissues, bullet particles or broken bone fragments may cause further damage outside of the path of travel, For these reasons it is very difficult to predict the possible complications from the size of the actual injury in patients with penetrating abdominal firearm injuries.

Prognostic impact of platelet/lymphocyte and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratios in patients with gastric cancer: a multicenter study.

Background: Increasing amounts of evidence suggest patient-related systemic inflammatory response (SIR) as a powerful prognostic factor in cancer and applicability of SIR as a prognostic factor has been investigated.

Aim: To evaluate the prognostic significance of SIR, which is among routinely analysed blood parameters in patients with all stages of gastric cancer (GC).

Methods: A total of 245 patients with gastric cancer who were followed up and treated in four clinics of medical oncology were included in the study.

Platelet function parameters in management of hepatic hydatid disease: a case-controlled study.

Aim: To evaluate platelet function in patients with a history of surgical treatment for hepatic hydatid disease (HD).

Methods: This retrospective case-controlled study was performed in a state hospital in Turkey from January 2009 to November 2013. The patients were divided into two groups: those evaluated in the preoperative period (Group 1) and those evaluated in the postoperative period (Group 2).

The effects of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on head, neck, shoulder, low back and knee pain of female patients.

As the rise on the prevalence of obesity, it is related with physical impairment of joints, especially in the lumbar spine and knee joints. Losing body weight can reduce or eliminate pain of head, neck, shoulder, lumbar spine and knees. By performing a laparoscopic bariatric surgery we demonstrated a significant improvement on the pain by body weight reduction.

Life-threatening intrathyroidal parathyroid adenoma.

Acute primary hyperparathyroidism and parathyroid crisis are characterized by life-threatening hypercalcemia, a rare disorder. A 69-year-old female patient presented at our hospital's neurology clinic with weakness, nausea, vomiting, depression, and hypercalcemia. Treatment of hypercalcemia resulted in no improvement in neurological symptoms, indicating resistance to treatment.
