Background: BCL11B variants are associated with intellectual developmental disorder with dysmorphic facies, speech delay, and T-cell abnormalities (IDDSFTA) (OMIN 618092). The clinical features include neurodevelopmental disorders (psychomotor delay, intellectual disability, language delay, autism spectrum features), facial dysmorphisms, immunological manifestations (asthma, allergies and T cells decrease). The aim is to present a IDDSFTA case in Mexican population with a probably pathogenic variant that has not been reported before and to compare it with literature cases.

Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) is a highly valuable tool in spinal surgery. It allows for real-time evaluation of nervous system function and alerts the surgeon to any warning signs. Among the various techniques used are motor evoked potentials (MEPs) through transcranial electrical stimulation, which involve applying an electrical stimulus to the scalp in the primary motor cortex region and recording it in the corresponding muscles of the corticospinal tract.

Introduction: There are studies with mixed conclusions about the role cholecystectomy plays as a risk factor for proximal colorectal cancer (CRC).
Methods: We performed a multicenter retrospective cohort study where the records of patients with CRC were reviewed. Data was collected regarding affected colon subsegment (cecum, ascending, transverse, descending, sigmoid, or rectum, which were also combined into proximal or distal colon), history and time since cholecystectomy, histopathology reports (TNM classification and clinical stage), and KRAS, NRAS, and BRAF mutation analysis.

Objective: Compare the prevalence and severity of anxiety and depression among people with epilepsy (PWE) evaluated by telemedicine during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and follow up on their status 15 months later.
Methods: We conducted a prospective, observational, and analytical study at the Epilepsy Clinic of the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery (NINN) in Mexico City during the COVID-19 pandemic. HADS-A and HADS-D instruments were administered to adult patients diagnosed with epilepsy, initially through telemedicine and later through in-person visits or phone calls after one year.

Dementia encompasses a spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders significantly impacting global health, with environmental factors increasingly recognized as crucial in their etiology. Among these, ozone, has been identified as a potential exacerbator of neurodegenerative processes, particularly in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Ozone exposure induces the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which penetrate the BBB, leading to oxidative damage in neuronal cells.

Background: The relationship between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection and multiple sclerosis (MS) relapse and disease progression remains unclear. Previous studies are limited by small sample sizes and most lack a propensity-matched control cohort.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of COVID-19 infection on MS disease course with a large propensity-matched cohort.

This post-hoc analysis of the SABINA III study evaluated the association of short-acting β-agonist (SABA) prescriptions and self-reported over-the-counter (OTC) SABA purchase in the previous 12 months with asthma-related outcomes using multivariable regression models in 4556 patients (mean age, 48.9 years). Of the 2810 patients prescribed ≥3 SABA canisters, 776 (27.

Introduction: Obesity is a global health issue that significantly increases morbidity and mortality when the Body Mass Index (BMI) reaches values ≥ 50. While metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is the most effective treatment for severe obesity, it carries risks. Robotic surgery is promising but not extensively studied in Mexico, which presents an opportunity for research at a National Hospital with an academic program.

Introduction: Augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) technologies have revolutionized cranial neurosurgery by overlaying digital information onto the surgical field, enhancing visualization, precision, and training. These technologies enable the real-time integration of preoperative imaging data, aiding in better decision-making and reducing operative risks. Despite challenges such as cost and specialized training needs, AR and MR offer significant benefits, including improved surgical outcomes and personalized surgical plans based on individual patient anatomy.

Objective: To examine the predictors of the occurrence of severe thrombocytopenia and its impact on damage accrual and mortality in SLE patients.
Methods: Factors associated with time to severe thrombocytopenia (platelet count ≤20,000/mm) occurring from the onset of SLE symptoms were assessed by Cox proportional hazards regressions. The association of severe thrombocytopenia with mortality was evaluated by logistic regression analyses while its impact on damage was by negative binomial regression.

Purpose - The Latin American Society of Immunodeficiencies (LASID) Registry was established in 2009 to collect data on Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEI) patients in the region. Although several reports have been published regarding LASID data, this is the first report of the entire dataset. Methods - The European Society of Immunodeficiencies (ESID) donated the online platform in 2008.

Introduction: Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has become standard of care in many high-income countries, but its adoption in low- and middle-income countries (LICs/MICs) has been impeded by resource- and training-related barriers. We hypothesized that trainees in MICs perform MIS procedures less often, and that as procedure complexity increases, the rate of MIS decreases.
Methods: A 22-question survey, distributed to representative leaders across Latin America, collected country-specific graduating trainee case requirements and volumes for four index procedures (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, inguinal hernia repair, colectomy) using MIS or open surgery (OS).

Background: to date, no standardized, evidence-based follow-up schemes exist for the monitoring of patients who underwent focal therapy (FT) and expert centers rely mainly on their own experience and/or institutional protocols. We aimed to perform a comprehensive review of the most advantageous follow-up strategies and their rationale after FT for prostate cancer (PCa).
Methods: a narrative review of the literature was conducted to investigate different follow-up protocols of FT for PCa.

In the management of traumatic brain injury (TBI), intracranial pressure monitoring (ICPm) is crucial for the timely management of severe cases that show rapid neurological deterioration. External ventricular drains (EVDs) and intraparenchymal pressure monitors (IPMs) are the primary methods used in this setting; however, the debate over their comparative efficacy persists, primarily because of reliance on observational study data. This underscores the need for a meta-analysis to guide clinical decision-making.

Abstract: Worldwide, one billion people sustain trauma, and 5 million people will die every year from their injuries. Countries must build trauma systems to effectively address this high-burden disease, but efforts are often challenged by financial constraints. Understanding mechanisms for trauma funding internationally can help to identify opportunities to address the burden of injuries.

Purpose: Transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) ventral hernia repair requires incising the peritoneum from within the abdominal cavity, developing a flap, and placing a reinforcing mesh after fascial closure from the preperitoneal space. We present a novel adaptation to this technique that allows placement of preperitoneal mesh without entering the abdominal cavity. The robotic totally extra- and preperitoneal (R-PeTEP) access for ventral hernia repair is best suited for small to moderate sized ventral hernias with concomitant diastasis recti.

Background: Current treatment for chronic kidney disease (CKD) focuses on improving manifestations and delaying progression. Nutritional approaches play a crucial role in CKD management, and various supplements have become available. Ketoanalogues of amino acids (KAs), calcium citrate, and inulin have been proposed as suitable supplements, yet their widespread use has been limited due to insufficient evidence.
