The etiology of Kawasaki disease (KD) and its precise genetic basics remain unknown. Genetic variants affecting immunity have been found in some patients. The occurrence of KD in siblings is rare, but KD pedigrees with multiple affected members have been described in Japan and North America.

Fenotipos de la enfermedad por reflujo gastroesofágico: una visión basada en su fisiopatología.

The advancement of knowledge in pathophysiology and underlying etiologies of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has allowed the development of the concept of disease beyond the acidity of reflux. The variability in the symptom presentation and the response to treatment cannot be attributed only to reflux composition, since esophageal factors, such as structural, mechanical, biochemical, and physiological aspects, play an important role. The proposed personalized approach to GERD uses a stepwise approach that optimizes performance and phenotypic outcome while minimizing invasiveness, risk, and cost.

Objective: To present the results of our case series on laparoscopic nephrectomy in xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP).

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted that included 143 patients treated with laparoscopic nephrectomy for non-functioning kidney, of whom 15 had XGP, within the time frame of 2011 to 2019. The demographic and clinical data were collected, along with the intraoperative results, complications, and days of hospital stay.

Use of 5-Alpha Reductase Inhibitors in Dermatology: A Narrative Review.

Finasteride and dutasteride are 5-alpha reductase selective inhibitors (5ARIs). They were introduced as therapeutic agents for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in 1992 and 2002, respectively; finasteride has also been approved for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia since early 2000. These agents inhibit the conversion of testosterone (T) to 5α-dihydrotestosterone (5α-DHT), limiting steroidogenesis and playing a crucial role in the physiological function of the neuroendocrine system.

Background: Previously, we reported lower RSK4 mRNA and protein levels in malignant ovarian tumors compared to normal and benign ovarian tissues. Also, we observed a significant inverse correlation between the advanced ovarian cancer stages and RSK4 mRNA levels. We did not investigate the mechanisms involved in RSK4-reduced expression in ovarian cancer.

Introduction: In Mexico, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) as an interdisciplinary intervention with therapeutic impact in patients with heart disease is growing. There is the need to know actual conditions of CR in our country.

Objectives: The objective of this National Registry is to follow-up those existing and new CR units in Mexico through the comparison between the two previous registries, RENAPREC-2009 and RENAPREC II-2015 studies.

The Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of acute pancreatitis in children and adolescents.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) and recurrent acute pancreatitis (RAP) are conditions, whose incidence is apparently on the rise. Despite the ever-increasing evidence regarding the management of AP in children and adults, therapeutic actions that could potentially affect having a poor prognosis in those patients, especially in the pediatric population, continue to be carried out. Therefore, the Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología convened a group of 24 expert pediatric gastroenterologists from different institutions and areas of Mexico, as well as 2 pediatric nutritionists and 2 specialists in pediatric surgery, to discuss different aspects of the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of AP and RAP in the pediatric population.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of technology-assisted Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACLR) on post-operative clinical outcomes and tunnel placement compared to conventional arthroscopic ACLR.

Methods: CENTRAL, MEDLINE, and Embase were searched from January 2000 to November 17, 2022. Articles were included if there was intraoperative use of computer-assisted navigation, robotics, diagnostic imaging, computer simulations, or 3D printing (3DP).

Study of genetic variants and their clinical significance in Mexican pediatric patients with epilepsy.

Background: The use of novel and accurate techniques to identify genetic variants (with or without a record in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database) improves diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics for patients with epilepsy, especially in populations for whom such techniques exist. The aim of this study was to find a genetic profile in Mexican pediatric epilepsy patients by focusing on ten genes associated with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE).

Introduction: Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) brings along changes in the immune system, restoring dendritic cell function, reducing T2 inflammation and augmenting the regulatory cell activation. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections, interferes with the immune system causing immune suppression during the first phase and over-activation in more advanced disease. We decided to explore the interaction of both in a real-world observational trial.

Understanding Progestins: From Basics to Clinical Applicability.

Progestin is a term used to describe a synthetic progestogen. The activity and potency of synthetic progestins are mostly evaluated via parameters associated with their endometrial effects, which are related to their interactions with progesterone, estrogen, androgen, glucocorticoid, and mineralocorticoid receptors. The chemical structure of progestins is the key to understanding their interactions with these receptors and predicting the other effects associated with these drugs.

Groin Flap for Reconstruction of Traumatic Degloving Hand Injury: A Report of 5 Cases.

Degloving is a type of avulsion injury that leads to the separation of the skin from its underlying tissues. It is usually caused by industrial machinery through smashing or traction mechanisms, where the patient typically tries to avoid severe trauma by pulling their hand off, resulting in this particular injury. Although free flaps have now become the standard of treatment in many institutions, the lack of this possibility makes pedicled flaps a good reconstructive option, with advantages such as low donor-site morbidity, low procedure costs, and relatively easy dissection of the flap.
