Purpose: There has been a lack of data on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in children with vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) from Southeast Asia. This study evaluated the levels (mean total score and subscales score) of HRQoL, comparing the VKC and normal children groups, and within the VKC severity groups.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two tertiary hospitals, specifically the pediatric ophthalmology services at Hospital Selayang and Universiti Sains Malaysia, spanning from 2019 to 2020.

The Importance of Posterior Hyaloid Removal in a Case of Vitrectomy for Floaters in High Myopia.

A 61-year-old Malaysian Chinese man who has high myopia complained of both eye floaters. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) of the macula showed bilateral posterior staphyloma with right eye (RE) foveoschisis without macula detachment, which had been stable for a seven-year follow-up. When bilateral YAG laser vitreolysis could not alleviate his symptoms, he underwent pars plana vitrectomy with the inducement of posterior vitreous detachment, first in the left eye, followed by the RE one month later.

Atopic Dermatitis Leading to Blindness: A Frequently Forgotten Sequelae.

A 12-year-old boy with underlying severeand poorly controlled atopic dermatitis (AD) associated with atopic conjunctivitis and rhinitis presented with a right painless blurring of vision for two weeks. On examination, his right eye visual acuity was 1/60,with grade 1 relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD). Anterior segment examination revealed anterior uveitis with dense posterior subcapsular cataract and hazy fundus view.

Hibiscus score: Developing and validating a predictive tool for intravenous immunoglobulin treatment resistance in Malaysian children with Kawasaki disease.

Background: Children with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) resistant Kawasaki disease (KD) are at higher risk of developing coronary artery (CA) aneurysm. Early identification of high-risk patients using a predictive tool would allow for earlier interventions to prevent cardiac complications.

Methods: Children with KD who were admitted to five selected hospitals in Malaysia between 2008 and 2018 and received 2 g/kg of IVIG within 10 days from the onset of illness were included.

Sight-Threatening Unilateral Posterior Scleritis With Positive Atypical p-ANCA As Early Manifestation of Lupus Spectrum Disease.

Antinuclear cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-related scleritis is a potentially sight-threatening inflammatory condition that may occur as a primary vasculitis disorder or as a secondary vasculitis in a variety of inflammatory conditions. While ANCA has been classically associated with primary vasculitis diseases such as granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), microscopic polyarteritis (MPA), and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), it is interesting that in cases of lupus spectrum disease (LSD), both ANCA and atypical p-ANCA have been observed as secondary autoantibodies. Scleritis is a rare ocular manifestation of lupus disease with an incidence of around 1%.

Background: The prospective phase III multi-centre L-MOCA trial (NCT03534453) has demonstrated the encouraging efficacy and manageable safety profile of olaparib maintenance therapy in the Asian (mainly Chinese) patients with platinum-sensitive relapsed ovarian cancer (PSROC). In this study, we report the preplanned exploratory biomarker analysis of the L-MOCA trial, which investigated the effects of homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) and programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression on olaparib efficacy.

Investigating the Effects of Level-Specific CE-Chirp on Auditory Brainstem Response Waves in Normal Hearing Infants.

Background: Auditory brainstem response (ABR) to the level-specific (LS) CE-Chirp has been reported to provide optimum neural synchrony along cochlear partitions, theoretically improving ABR waveform resolution. Despite this promising finding, limited studies have been conducted to contrast the results between LS CE-Chirp and Click stimuli. The current study aimed to compare the results of ABR between the two stimuli (Click and LS CE-Chirp).

An Unusual Presentation of Midline Lethal Granuloma.

Extranodal natural killer T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTCL), is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that is strongly related to Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) infection and commonly presents as "midline lethal granuloma." Herein, we report a middle-aged lady who presented with a two-week history of fever, sore throat and constitutional symptoms. Intraoral examination revealed a lacerated soft palate with an ulcerated uvula.
