Allogeneic stem cell transplant (alloSCT) is a current treatment option for patients with refractory/relapsed classic Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL), including those who have failed an autologous transplantation. We performed a retrospective multicenter analysis of 113 patients (median age 28 years; range 14-56; 54% males) with refractory/relapsed (R/R) CHL who had undergone alloSCT in Argentina. Kaplan-Meier was used to estimate overall (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS).

Granulocytic sarcomas are solid, extramedullary-located neoplasms composed of immature myeloid cells, associated with myeloproliferative syndromes. Central nervous system involvement is very rare and may develop either after complete remission, coexist with or precede the systemic disease, being the last one that guides the radiological diagnosis and marks the prognosis. In this work, we report 2 pathologically-verified cases of intracranial granulocytic sarcoma treated by surgical means.

Distal renal tubular acidosis is the most common type of renal tubular acidosis in pediatrics and can be hereditary. It is due to an inability in the kidney to excrete hydrogen ion (H+), in the absence of deterioration of renal function, and it is accompanied by hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis with normal anion gap. The symptoms can be growth retardation, vomiting, constipation, lack of appetite, polydipsia and polyuria, nephrocalcinosis, weakness and even muscle paralysis due to hypokalemia.

Chronic administration of the angiotensin type 2 receptor agonist C21 improves insulin sensitivity in C57BL/6 mice.

Physiol Rep

August 2018

Departamento de Química Biológica-Instituto de Química y Fisicoquímica Biológicas (CONICET), Facultad de Farmacia y Bioquímica, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The renin-angiotensin system modulates insulin action. Angiotensin type 1 receptor exerts a deleterious effect, whereas the angiotensin type 2 receptor (AT2R) appears to have beneficial effects providing protection against insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. To further explore the role of the AT2R on insulin action and glucose homeostasis, in this study we administered C57Bl/6 mice with the synthetic agonist of the AT2R C21 for 12 weeks (1 mg/kg per day; ip).

Medwave

August 2016

Servicios de Gastroenterología y Endoscopía Digestiva, Hospital Alemán, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Programa de Medicina basada en pruebas, Hospital Alemán, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Post-polypectomy bleeding after colonoscopy with resection of large colorectal polyps can cause significant morbidity (readmission for monitoring, transfusion, repeat endoscopy and therapy) and a significant cost to hospitals and insurers. Nevertheless prophylactic endoscopic measures could reduce risk of post-polypectomy bleeding. Searching in Epistemonikos database, which is maintained by screening 30 databases, we identified two systematic reviews including 10 randomized trials.

Physicians are frequently faced with questions related to their patients’ care that they cannot answer. A vast number of randomised trials have tested a wide variety of behaviour-changing strategies designed to improve practitioners’ evidence utilisation, but systematic reviews have concluded that the effects are generally small and inconsistent. We conducted a randomised controlled trial to determine whether a question identification and solving system, using structured evidence summaries with recommendations, would change physician’s behavior related to the care of their hospitalised patients.
