Urolithiasis is a worldwide spread condition that affects patients' Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL), which measurement is an important tool for routine clinical and research practice. Disease-specific HRQOL measures demonstrated to perform better in assessing the effects of specific conditions. A disease-specific questionnaire for kidney stones, the WISQOL, has been validated in different languages, but an Italian version is still missing.

Different international associations have proposed their own guidelines on urolithiasis. However, the focus is primarily on an overview of the principles of urolithiasis management rather than step-by-step technical details for the procedure. The International Alliance of Urolithiasis (IAU) is releasing a series of guidelines on the management of urolithiasis.

  • The study compares robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) and percutaneous tumor ablation (PTA) for treating completely endophytic renal masses in 152 patients across multiple centers.
  • PTA results showed significantly lower overall and minor complication rates compared to RAPN, although changes in kidney function over time were worse for the RAPN group.
  • Despite differences in patient characteristics and complication rates, both treatment methods had similar recurrence rates and survival outcomes, suggesting PTA is a reliable option with lower risks.

SARS-CoV-2 Contamination of Ambulance Surfaces and Effectiveness of Routine Decontamination Procedure: A Classic Hygiene Lesson for A Novel Pathogen.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

October 2022

Laboratory of Hygiene and Applied Microbiology, Hygiene and Public Health Unit, Department of Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular Sciences and Public Health, University of Padova, 35131 Padova, Italy.

The efficacy of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the decontamination of ambulances against SARS-CoV-2 has been debated. In Italy, the differential use of ambulances was implemented by regional health authorities, with selected vehicles being used exclusively for transporting COVID-19 patients. We investigated the presence of SARS-CoV-2 on high-touch surfaces in ambulances to assess contamination dynamics and the effectiveness of decontamination SOPs.

The pathophysiology of vision loss and loss of visual field in patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension with papilloedema is not fully understood. Although elevated CSF pressure induces damage to the optic nerve due to stasis of axoplasmic flow, there is no clear relationship between the severity of papilloedema and CSF pressure. Furthermore, there are cases of purely unilateral papilloedema and cases without papilloedema despite significantly elevated intracranial pressure as well as papilloedema that can persist despite a successfully lowered intracranial pressure.
