Our case report concerns an unusual case of acquired progressive lymphangioma (APL) which developed in a 52-year-old Japanese man following femoral artery catheterization for angiography. The histological examination revealed many irregularly shaped and dilated lymphatic channels that were lined by a single layer of endothelial cells. Immunohistochemical staining for von Willebrand factor was negative in the endothelial cells of the dilated channels.

Osteonecrosis (ON) was produced experimentally in rabbits by intravenous injection of horse serum. Eighty adult rabbits were used: 16 were injected twice with isotonic saline (Group A), 24 were injected once with saline and once with horse serum (Group B), and 40 were injected twice with horse serum (Group C). Both femurs of each rabbit were obtained from 2 h to 7 weeks after the final injection an were subjected to histological examination.

CDDP and 5-FU are time dependent drugs and their increasing effect is expected because of the dual chemical modulation. The low dose continuous infusion of CDDP and 5-FU was applied to the terminal adenocarcinoma patients with the metastatic lesions. One patient was 42 years old lung cancer patient with the metastatic lesions in the liver, the bone, the pericardial space, the underskin, the muscles and the lymph nodes (stage IV).

We used transcranial, transcervical and transthoracic magnetic stimulation at 8 to 235 months (mean 51) after transfer of intercostal nerves to the musculocutaneous nerve. Biceps strength recovered to MRC grade 2 in eight patients, grade 3 in three and grade 4 in 14.

Direct nerve-crossing of intercostal nerves from the lateral thorax to the musculocutaneous nerve was performed in 6 patients after spinal nerve root avulsion with brachial plexus palsy. Elbow flexion power was regained well enough to move against gravity and some resistance in all cases. The muscles were examined histochemically 4 (1-9) years after the operation.

A case of bilateral fenestration of the vertebral artery at the level of the atlas in a patient who had occipital neuralgia and cervical myelopathy is presented. MRI and vertebral angiogram demonstrated the fenestrated vertebral artery compressing the upper cervical cord. Surgical decompression for the C-1 and C-2 sensory roots and the upper cervical cord was performed.

We used evoked spinal cord potentials (ESCP) for intraoperative diagnosis in 17 cases of traumatic brachial plexus palsy. Forty spinal nerves were directly stimulated during exploration of the brachial plexus and ESCP recorded from the cervical epidural space were compared with simultaneously observed somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) and myelographic findings. Both SEP and ESCP could be evoked in 21 spinal nerves but ESCP were always more distinct and five to ten times greater in amplitude than SEP.

The motor unit potentials of biceps brachii muscle innervated by intercostal nerves and those of second intercostal muscle in relation to respiratory cycle were studied by electromyography (EMG) in 23 patients with traumatic brachial plexus palsies. These patients were followed from about 2 years to 17 years averaging 5 years after intercostal nerves crossing to musculocutaneous nerve. The integrated EMG of biceps brachii muscle ranged from 4 muVS to 244 muVS per second during respiratory phase, with voluntary elbow flexion weighted 500 grams in the hand.

We discuss the transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR-P) on 40 patients in the chronic stage of stroke, all of whom were refractory to conservative managements of urinary disturbance. All patients, between 35 and 89 years old (mean: 52.6 years), had only one episode of stroke and were diagnosed as benign prostatic hypertrophy or bladder neck contracture that appeared to cause urinary disturbance in these patients.

A total of 154 stroke patients, 96 males and 58 females, were analyzed to establish the micturitional modality according to the type of detrusor function and the level of activities of daily living (ADL). All patients had only one episode of stroke attack and were checked at least one month after the onset. Localization of cerebral lesion in each patient was evaluated by neurological findings and cerebral angiography in addition to computed tomography of the brain.

One hundred and thirteen cases of spina bifida treated with clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) were reviewed. There were 42 males and 71 females, ranging from 4 months to 50 years. The major reasons for CIC from other voiding methods were vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) (48/113) old, and residual urine (36/113).

Cutaneous vesicostomy according to Paquin's modification was performed on 5 female patients with neurogenic bladder caused by cervical spinal cord injury and long-term follow-up is now available. All patients are free from risk of autonomic dysreflexia and catheter trouble. There was one significant complication, stomal stricture, but it did not result in severe urinary infections or secondary changes in the upper urinary tract.

Thirteen cases (20 ureters) of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) associated with neurogenic bladder, treated with anti-reflux operation are reviewed. Twelve of the 13 cases had meningomyelocele and 1 had spina bifida occulta as an underlying disease. The type of neurogenic bladder was hypoactive detrusor-active sphincter in 11 patients and hypoactive detrusor-hypoactive sphincter in 2 patients.

One hundred eighty patients with spinal cord injury were admitted to our hospital between January, 1980 and June, 1983. Eighty-five of them had cervical lesions, 54 had thoracic lesions and 41 had lumbar lesions. Most of the neurogenic bladders due to spinal cord injury treated in our clinic, could be classified into 3 major patterns: hypoactive detrusor-hypoactive sphincter, hypoactive detrusor-active sphincter, and hyperactive detrusor-hyperactive sphincter.
