The impact of strengthening preventive measures against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection on the prevalence of respiratory viruses in children was examined. After the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the rate of multiple virus detection among hospitalized children decreased. Immediately after the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, respiratory syncytial and parainfluenza viruses were rarely detected and subsequently reemerged.

Aims: The HINODE study aimed to analyse rates of mortality, appropriately treated ventricular arrhythmias (VA), and heart failure in Japanese patients and compared with those in Western patients.
Methods And Results: After treatment decisions following contemporary practice in Japan, patients were prospectively enrolled into four cohorts: (i) internal cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), (ii) cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) defibrillator (CRT-D), (iii) standard medical therapy ('non-device': ND), or (iv) pacing (indicated for CRT; received pacemaker or CRT pacing). Cohorts 1-3 required a left ventricular ejection fraction ≤35%, a history of heart failure, and a need for primary prevention of sudden cardiac death based on two to five previously identified risk factors.

Introduction: Seasonal human coronavirus (HCoV)-229E, -NL63, -OC43, and -HKU1 are seasonal coronaviruses that cause colds in humans. However, the clinical characteristics of pediatric inpatients infected with HCoVs are unclear. This study aimed to compare and clarify the epidemiological and clinical features of HCoVs and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which commonly causes severe respiratory infections in children.

Prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) can cause large cerebral vessel occlusion. Many reports suggested that mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is effective and useful for early diagnosis from the histopathological findings of thrombus. We present the case of a 62-year-old man, with a history of prosthetic aortic valve replacement and pulmonary vein isolation for his atrial fibrillation, who developed a high fever and an acute neurological deficit, with left hemiplegia and speech disorder.

Background: Many self-report scales have been developed. Among them, are those clinically useful scales for quantifying chronic pain (such as the Numeric Rating Scale), which are useful for determining the effectiveness of treatment, and multifaceted and comprehensive pain assessment scales that are used to determine therapeutic strategies. The representative measure of the latter is the West Haven Yale Multidimensional Pain Inventory (WHY-MPI), which constitutes a system for classifying patients with chronic pain termed the multiaxial assessment of pain (MAP), proposed by Turk and Rudy.

Background: Because regular visits to distant hospitals may be a burden to patients, both in terms of time and cost, some patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain may discontinue multidisciplinary pain treatment, unable to maintain motivation to attend.
Objective: To evaluate and compare the pre-program characteristics of patients who dropped out and patients who continued treatment, thereby clarifying the characteristics of patients at risk of dropping out.
Methods: A multidisciplinary pain management treatment program was implemented for patients at the Pain Management Center, Hoshi General Hospital.

Introduction: Vaginal cuff dehiscence and small bowel evisceration after laparoscopic radical cystectomy, although rare, can be a critical complication. However, little has been reported about it by urologists.
Case Presentation: A 79-year-old woman underwent laparoscopic radical cystectomy for invasive bladder carcinoma.
Background: Randomized trials in Western countries have provided evidence that prophylactic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy reduces mortality in heart failure (HF) patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction. However, the risk of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias in Japanese HF patients sharing similar risk factors is still unknown.
Methods: The Heart Failure Indication and Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention Trial Japan trial (NCT03185832) is a prospective, multicenter registry designed to collect data on ventricular arrhythmia, HF events, and mortality in Japanese HF patients.

Background: Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by multiple colonic polyps, is caused by a germline pathogenic variant of the APC gene. However, this variant is not detected in up to 30% of patients with the adenomatous polyposis phenotype.
Methods: We performed next-generation sequencing (NGS) to identify the causative genes in FAP patients with 10 or more polyps.
There has been no large multicenter clinical trial on the prognosis of implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) or cardiac resynchronization therapy with a defibrillator (CRT-D) in Japanese patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of the present study was to compare differences in the prognoses of Japanese patients with CAD between primary and secondary prevention, and to identify potential predictors of prognosis. We investigated 392 CAD patients (median age 69 years, 90% male) treated with ICD/CRT-D enrolled in the Japan Implantable Devices in CAD (JID-CAD) Registry.

Background: Previously, we conducted the 5-year open-label, randomized controlled trial (RCT) of leuprorelin adjuvant therapy in post-operative premenopausal patients with endocrine-responsive breast cancer, which was a pilot study to investigate the optimal duration of leuprorelin treatment. Since, however, long-term outcomes became required for the adjuvant endocrine therapy, we performed this follow-up observation study.
Methods: Follow-up observation study was performed up to 10th year after randomization, continuing RCT to evaluate the efficacy and safety of leuprorelin every 3 months for ≥ 3 versus 2 years, with daily tamoxifen for 5 years.

Childhood-onset lymphocytic infundibuloneurohypophysitis (LINH) due to infiltration of autoimmune lymphocyte in the neurohypophysis is rarely reported. Its definitive diagnosis requires a pituitary biopsy, which is an invasive procedure. Recently, anti-rabphilin-3A antibody has been reported as a potential diagnostic marker for LINH in adults; however, only a few cases have been reported in children.

Overexpression of the ubiquitous protein kinase, CK2α, has been reported in various human cancers. Here, we demonstrate that nuclear and nucleolar CK2α localization in invasive ductal carcinomas of the breast is a reliable predictor of poor prognosis. Cellular localization of CK2α in nuclei and nucleoli was analyzed immunohistochemically using surgical tissue blocks from 112 patients, who had undergone surgery without neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
