Background: Accurate prediction for survival in individualized patients with cardiac resynchronization therapy with a defibrillator (CRT-D) is difficult.
Methods: We analyzed the New Japan cardiac device treatment registry (JCDTR) database to develop a survival prediction model for CRT-D recipients.
Results: Four hundred and eighty-two CRT-D recipients, at the implantation year 2018-2021, with a QRS width ≥120 ms and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤35% at baseline, were analyzed.

Background: Nonpharmaceutical interventions for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, during the pandemic altered the epidemiology of respiratory viruses. This study aimed to determine the changes in respiratory viruses among children hospitalized from 2018 to 2023.
Methods: Nasopharyngeal specimens were collected from children aged under 15 years with fever and/or respiratory symptoms admitted to a medical institution in Fukushima Prefecture between January 2018 and December 2023.

Background: There is limited experience and knowledge of the use of the fenestrated frozen elephant trunk (FET) technique in acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD). This study's aims were to assess the clinical outcomes of the fenestrated FET technique for ATAAD and to identify its best practices and pitfalls.
Methods: This study included 101 patients who underwent emergency surgical aortic repair for ATAAD at our hospital between October 2018 and April 2023.

Background: Amino acid (AA) substitutions in the fusion protein of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and their effects remain unclear. We aimed to analyze AA substitutions in main neutralizing epitopes of the fusion (F) protein.
Methods: We analyzed F protein genes of 236 RSV strains isolated from children hospitalized with RSV infection in Fukushima, Japan (June 2008-February 2023).

The TP53 signature is considered a predictor of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) response and prognostic factor in breast cancer. The objective of this study was to confirm TP53 signature can predict pathological complete response (pCR) and prognosis in cohorts of breast cancer patients who received NAC in prospective studies. Development cohorts (retrospective [n = 37] and prospective [n = 216] cohorts) and validation cohorts (NAC administered prospective study cohorts [n = 407] and retrospective perioperative chemotherapy (PC)-naïve, hormone receptor (HrR)-positive cohort [PC-naïve_HrR+ cohort] [n = 322]) were used.

Aims: Hospitalizations are common in patients with heart failure and are associated with high mortality, readmission and economic burden. Detecting early signs of worsening heart failure may enable earlier intervention and reduce hospitalizations. The HeartLogic algorithm is designed to predict worsening heart failure using diagnostic data from multiple device sensors.

DOATS score and DOAT score, COVID-19 progression prediction tools we have developed, utilize clinical information such as presence of diabetes/obesity (DO), age (A), body temperature (T), and oxygen saturation (S). They showed good predictive power, but their scoring calculation was slightly complex, leading us to develop simplified versions. This report discusses the ability of the simplified versions to assess deterioration risk in unvaccinated, mild/moderate COVID-19 patients aged <65 years.

Her grandfather grew Egoma (Perilla frutescens), and her family frequently consumed food items prepared using Egoma; however, she never consumed them because she did not enjoy these food items; she experienced vomiting, facial swelling, and oral discomfort upon ingesting Egoma during school lunch for the first time. Her food oral challenge test was positive, as well as a skin-prick test with sesame powder.

Methods: We assess outcomes and underlying heart diseases of patients receiving CRT-D with analyzing database of the Japan cardiac device treatment registry (JCDTR) at the implantation year 2011-2015 and New JCDTR at the implantation year 2018-2021.
Results: Proportion of nonischemic heart diseases was about 70% in both the groups (JCDTR: 69%; New JCDTR: 72%).

Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is genetically classified into two major subgroups, A and B, based on attachment glycoprotein (G protein) gene sequences. The A2 subgroup is further separated into three subdivisions, A2a, A2b (A2b1), and A2c (A2b2). Subgroup A2c viruses carrying 180- or 111-nucleotide duplications in the G gene (A2c or A2c ) have been reported in Japan and Spain.

Background: It remains unclear whether clopidogrel is better suited than aspirin as the long-term antiplatelet monotherapy following dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Objectives: This study compared clopidogrel monotherapy following 1 month of DAPT (clopidogrel group) with aspirin monotherapy following 12 months of DAPT (aspirin group) after PCI for 5 years.
Methods: STOPDAPT-2 (Short and Optimal Duration of Dual Antiplatelet Therapy 2) is a multicenter, open-label, adjudicator-blinded, randomized clinical trial conducted in Japan.

Background: Panoramic studies in patients with cardiac resynchronization therapy with a defibrillator (CRT-D) focusing on the etiology and indication are scarce. Besides, a controversy exists regarding requirement of a defibrillator in non-ischemic patients for primary prevention with CRT.
Methods: Annual trends of de novo CRT-D implantations from 2011 to 2020 and outcomes of those between January 2011 and August 2015 were analyzed from the Japan cardiac device treatment registry (JCDTR) and New JCDTR database.

Objective: Most large-vessel occlusions (LVOs) amenable to acute recanalization occur in the internal carotid or middle cerebral artery. However, few LVOs with a multivessel disease can be difficult to treat. This study aimed to determine the outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy in patients with both anterior and middle cerebral artery occlusions.

Human respiratory syncytial viruses (HRSVs) are divided into subgroups A and B, which are further divided based on the nucleotide sequence of the second hypervariable region (HVR) of the attachment glycoprotein (G) gene. Understanding the molecular diversity of HRSV before and during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic can provide insights into the effects of the pandemic on HRSV dissemination and guide vaccine development. Here, we analyzed HRSVs isolated in Fukushima Prefecture from September 2017 to December 2021.

Objectives: Methotrexate (MTX) is associated with extensive side effects, including myelosuppression, interstitial pneumonia, and infection. It is, therefore, critical to establish whether its administration is required after achieving remission with tocilizumab (TCZ) and MTX combination therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Therefore, the aim of this multicenter, observational, cohort study was to evaluate the feasibility of MTX discontinuation for the safety of these patients.

We evaluated the efficacy and safety of the RV21-01 scalp cooling device in controlling hair loss during chemotherapy in this study. Thirty-nine breast cancer patients who underwent anthracycline- and/or taxane-based chemotherapy were assigned to the scalp cooling group(27 patients)and the hair loss observation group(12 patients). The alopecia rate using the NCI alopecia toxicity criteria and the quantitative alopecia toxicity grade was 51.

We reported nearly complete genomic sequences of 12 serotypes of human rhinoviruses (HRVs) isolated from pediatric inpatients in Fukushima, Japan using an air-liquid interface culture of human bronchial tracheal epithelial cells. We found that various serotypes of HRV circulated locally and simultaneously from 2018 to 2021.
