Novel Fuzzy Logic Scheme for Push-Based Critical Data Broadcast Mitigation in VNDN.

Sensors (Basel)

October 2022

Department of Computer Engineering, Hoseo University, Asan-si 31499, Korea.

Vehicular Named Data Networking (VNDN) is one of the potential and future networking architectures that allow Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) to exchange data by simply disseminating the content over the network. VNDN only supports a pull-based data forwarding model, where the content information is forwarded upon request. However, in critical situations, it is essential to design a push-based data forwarding model in order to broadcast the critical data packets without any requests.

Fusion Attention Mechanism for Foreground Detection Based on Multiscale U-Net Architecture.

Comput Intell Neurosci

September 2022

Department of Information and Communication Engineering, Hoseo University, Asan 31499, Republic of Korea.

Foreground detection is a classic video processing task, widely used in video surveillance and other fields, and is the basic step of many computer vision tasks. The scene in the real world is complex and changeable, and it is difficult for traditional unsupervised methods to accurately extract foreground targets. Based on deep learning theory, this paper proposes a foreground detection method based on the multiscale U-Net architecture with a fusion attention mechanism.

Bioactive compounds in some herbs can, directly and indirectly, protect against photoaging. We evaluated the effects of Blume (GE) and Wolf (PC) water extracts on ultraviolet (UV) B-induced skin lesions by acute UVB exposure in ICR mice and explored their mechanism of action. After removing the hair on the back of the mice, UVB (280-310 nm) was exposed to the back for 30 min to induce skin damage.

Lab Anim Res

September 2022

Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering, College of Natural Science, Hoseo University, Beabang-eup Hoseo-ro 79-20, Asan-si, 31499, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea.

Background: Now that it is possible to efficiently classify and save tissue images of laboratory animals using whole-slide imaging, many diagnostic models are being developed through transfer learning with Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). In this study, transfer learning was performed to gain toxicopathological knowledge using CNN models such as InceptionV3 and Xception. For the classification of tubular basophilia and mineralization, two representative background lesions that commonly occur in toxicological studies, accuracies of diagnosis were compared using MobileNetV2, Xception and InceptionV3.

Foreground Detection Based on Superpixel and Semantic Segmentation.

Comput Intell Neurosci

September 2022

Department of Information and Communication Engineering, Hoseo University, Chungcheongnam-do, Asan 31499, Republic of Korea.

Foreground detection is an essential step in computer vision and video processing. Accurate foreground object extraction is crucial for subsequent high-level tasks such as target recognition and tracking. Although many foreground detection algorithms have been proposed, foreground detection in complex scenes is still a challenging problem.

With the development of nanotechnology, nanomaterials have been widely used in the development of commercial products. In particular, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) have been of great interest due to their extraordinary properties, such as semiconductive, piezoelectric, and absorbance properties in UVA and UVB (280-400 nm) spectra. However, recent studies have investigated the toxicity of these ZnONPs; therefore, a ZnONP screening tool is required for human health and environmental problems.

Cytokine

November 2022

Department of Pharmacology, College of Korean Medicine, Kyung Hee University, Seoul 130-701, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

An increase in the number of mast cells could contribute to inflammatory diseases and pathologic conditions. A receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL)/RANK system is one of the key signaling pathways accelerating mast cell-mediated allergic inflammatory reactions. However, the biological functions of RANKL in mast cell proliferation remains to be clarified.

Interaction of polygenic variants specific for abdominal obesity risk with energy metabolism in large Korean cohorts.

Nutr Bull

September 2022

Department of Food and Nutrition, Obesity/Diabetes Research Center, Hoseo University, Asan, South Korea.

We examined the hypothesis that the genetic variants associated with abdominal obesity (AO) risk, excluding skeletal muscle mass impact, interact with lifestyle characteristics of adults aged >40 years in three cohorts from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study. Participants from a large city hospital-based cohort, excluding those with cancers, thyroid diseases, chronic kidney disease or brain-related diseases, were divided into AO (case; n = 17 545) and control (n = 36 283) using the cut-offs for waist circumference of 90 cm for men and 85 cm for women. The genetic variants affecting AO risk were chosen from a genome-wide association study in this cohort with obesity-related covariates, including and excluding skeletal muscle mass as a covariate.

Association of Polygenic Variants with Type 2 Diabetes Risk and Their Interaction with Lifestyles in Asians.

Nutrients

August 2022

Department of Food and Nutrition, Obesity/Diabetes Research Center, Hoseo University, 165 Sechul-Ri, BaeBang-Yup, Asan-si 31499, Chungnam-do, Korea.

Over the last several decades, there has been a considerable growth in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in Asians. A pathophysiological mechanism in Asian T2DM is closely linked to low insulin secretion, β-cell mass, and inability to compensate for insulin resistance. We hypothesized that genetic variants associated with lower β-cell mass and function and their combination with unhealthy lifestyle factors significantly raise T2DM risk among Asians.
