Recently, there have been reports that many microplastics are found in the air, which has raised concerns about their toxicity. To date, however, only limited research has investigated the effects of micro(nano)plastics on human health, and even less the potential for inhalation toxicity. To fill this research gap, we investigated the potential inhalation toxicity of micro(nano)plastics using a modified OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No.

Background: Equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) induces super-ovulation in laboratory animals. Notwithstanding its extensive usage, limited information is available regarding the differences between the in vivo effects of natural eCG (N-eCG) and recombinant eCG (R-eCG). This study aimed to investigate the gene expression profiles of mouse ovaries upon stimulation with N-eCG and R-eCG produced from CHO-suspension (CHO-S) cells.

Previous studies have evaluated the association between the phospholipase A2 m-type receptor (PLA2R1) rs4664308 polymorphism and the risk of idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN), but the results need to be integrated. We hypothesized that the PLA2R1 rs4664308 polymorphism is associated with IMN risk in different ethnicities and assessed this hypothesis by using meta-analysis and case-control studies.A literature searches on PLA2R1 rs4664308 and IMN risk was conducted using the EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Chinese Medical Databases.

Glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness, has multifactorial causes, including environmental and genetic factors. We evaluated genetic risk factors of glaucoma with gene-gene interaction and explored modifications of genetic risk with gene-lifestyles interaction in adults >40 years. The present study included 377 subjects with glaucoma and 47,820 subjects without glaucoma in a large-scale hospital-based cohort study from 2004 to 2013.

Background: Scientific advances have resulted in more complex medical systems, which in turn have led to an increase in the number of patient safety incidents (PSIs). In this environment, the importance of honest disclosure of PSIs is rising, which highlight the need to settle a reliable system. This study aimed to investigate the effects of patient safety culture and ethical awareness on open disclosure of PSIs.

The memory effect of the bistable liquid crystal mode is able to maintain the display information for a long time. The splay state and π twist states are used as the memory states of the bistable chiral splay nematic (BCSN) mode. The transition time from the π twist state to the splay state is sensitive to the temperature.

Dollar spot is one of the most economically important diseases of turfgrasses. Recent taxonomic revisions have placed the dollar spot fungal pathogens in the new genus , with five species described. The main goal of this study was to develop a quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) molecular detection assay based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of the ribosomal RNA genes to quantify the abundance of spp.

Background: In recent years, a three-dimensional ankle exercise has been proposed as a practice for strengthening the intrinsic foot muscles, however this topic still requires further research. This study aimed to compare the activities of the intrinsic muscles in healthy participants during 3D foot-ankle exercises, namely, short foot (SF), and toe spread out (TSO).
Methods: Prior to the experiment, 16 healthy adults were trained on how to perform SF, TSO, and 3D foot-ankle exercises for an hour.

Background: Traditionally, menstrual education has consisted of lectures directed toward women. The objective of this study was to design an innovative menstrual education (ME) program that reflects the needs of both young women and men, and verify its effectiveness.
Methods: A mixed-method design was used to determine the program needs and assess young adults' knowledge and perceptions of menstruation and menstrual products.

In the present study, we investigated the signal transduction of mutants of the eel follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (eelFSHR). Specifically, we examined the constitutively activating mutant D540G in the third intracellular loop, and four inactivating mutants (A193V, N195I, R546C, and A548V). To directly assess functional effects, we conducted site-directed mutagenesis to generate mutant receptors.

In this paper, we hypothesized that the gap between estimated cardiovascular age (eCV-age) and chronological age had a gender-wise correlation with the Korean Healthy Eating Index (KHEI). We tested the hypothesis in adults aged 20-64 years old using the KNHANES 2013-2017 data. eCV-age was estimated based on the designated risk factors of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and age-gap was calculated by subtracting the eCV-age from the chronological age in 12,317 adults.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver(NAFLD) is prevalent in Asians despite the low obesity rate. We hypothesized that the haplotype of genetic variants in the 22q13 loci has a strong association with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) that can be identified by genome-wide association study and that lifestyles may interact with the haplotype. We tested the hypothesis in middle-aged and elderly adults in a large city hospital-based cohort from the KoGES study.

Though impressive progress has been made in healthcare worldwide, many people still experience disproportionate health burdens and inequities in healthcare services. For establishing sustainable development goals, health literacy on social determinants of health (HL-SDH) has been recognized as a key to creating better social and physical environments. In particular, low levels of health literacy among industrial workers are considered as a major barrier to benefitting from the progress made in healthcare.

Purpose: Menopause disturbs energy, glucose, and lipid metabolisms and changes the composition of the gut microbiota, but dietary fibers without phytoestrogens may ameliorate menopausal metabolic disorders. The objective of the present study was to assess whether consuming the prebiotics chitosan and citrus pectin can improve postmenopausal symptoms, possibly by modulating the gut microbiota in ovariectomized (OVX) rats, and the mechanism of action was examined.
Methods: The OVX rats were given 4.

Biphilic surfaces exhibit outstanding condensation efficiency compared to surfaces having homogeneous wettability. Especially, hydrophilic patterns on a superhydrophobic substrate significantly promote the coalescence-induced jumping of condensed droplets by increasing the nucleation rate of condensation, thus enhancing the condensation efficiency drastically. However, the application of biphilic surfaces in practical industries remains challenging because controlling the size and spacing of the hydrophilic spots on large and complex surfaces is difficult.
