In Kemerovo Region (Kuzbass, Southwest Siberia), there is the largest coal basin in Russia and one of the largest in the world. Active moss biomonitoring was applied to assess the impact of potentially toxic elements on air pollution in five urban areas of the region. In each of the chosen urban regions, the moss bags were exposed in November and December of 2022 at locations with varying degrees of anthropogenic pressure.

Transport in a Two-Channel Nanotransistor Device with Lateral Resonant Tunneling.

We study field effect nanotransistor devices in the Si/SiO material system which are based on lateral resonant tunneling between two parallel conduction channels. After introducing a simple piecewise linear potential model, we calculate the quantum transport properties in the R-matrix approach. In the transfer characteristics, we find a narrow resonant tunneling peak around zero control voltage.

The moss bag technique was applied on Kamchatka to assess the effect of Shiveluch volcano on the air quality. Moss bags were exposed in settlements located at different distances from the volcano and affected by ashfall to varying degrees. The inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry was used for the determination of the content of Al, Ba, Co, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, P, Pb, Sr, S, V, and Zn in both exposed and unexposed moss samples.

A series of five novel copper(II) complexes with imidazole derivatives having general core Cu(R-Im)(Macr) (Macr = methacrylate anion; R-Im = 2-methylimidazole/2-MeIm, 4-methylimidazole/4-MeIm, 2-ethylimidazole/2-EtIm, 2-isopropylimidazole/2-PrIm) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), electronic reflectance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, thermal analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. All complexes crystalize in a monoclinic crystal system and form a complex supramolecular network developed through hydrogen bonds. The stereochemistry of the copper ion is distorted octahedral except for the compound with 4-methylimidazole for which the geometry is square-pyramidal.

This study aims to develop low-cost, eco-friendly, and circular economy-compliant composite materials by creating three types of magnetorheological suspensions (MRSs) utilizing lard, carbonyl iron (CI) microparticles, and varying quantities of gelatin particles (GP). Advances in radiotherapy, particularly the exploration of alternative radiation types such as carbon ions have updated our understanding of its effects and applicability on chondrosarcoma cells. Here we compare the optical effects produced by carbon ions (CI) and X-rays (XR) radiations on chondrosarcoma cells nuclei and set an automated method for evaluating the radiation-induced alterations without the need of chemical marking. Hyperspectral images (HSI) of SW1353 chondrosarcoma line carry detectable optical changes of the cells irradiated either with CI or XR compared to non-irradiated ones (REF).

For a detailed characterization of the 5.7 10 mt phosphogypsum (PG) stack in the vicinity of Bacau city, Romania, the air dose rate (ADR) was measured in 72 points covering the stack surface, while 10 samples of stack material were collected for future analysis. Radiometric determinations showed for the ADR values varying between 364 ± 53 and 489 ± 8 nSv/h, with some extreme values of 2775 ± 734 nSv/h, significantly exceeding 90 nSv/h, the average value reported for the Romanian territory.
