Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a complex disorder with a significant public health burden. Depression remission is often associated with weight gain, a major risk factor for metabolic syndrome (MetS). The primary objective of our study was to assess prospectively the impact of response to antidepressant treatment on developing MetS in a sample of MDD patients with a current major depressive episode (MDE) and who are newly initiating their treatment.

Background: Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a rare and often lethal brain disorder caused by the common, typically benign polyomavirus 2, also known as JC virus (JCV). In a small percentage of immunosuppressed individuals, JCV is reactivated and infects the brain, causing devastating neurological defects. A wide range of immunosuppressed groups can develop PML, such as patients with: HIV/AIDS, hematological malignancies (e.

Publication bias may lead to a misestimation in the association between pharmacogenetic biomarkers (PGx) and antiseizure drug's adverse effects (AEs). We aimed to assess its prevalence in this field. We searched for systematic reviews assessing PGx of antiseizure drug's AEs.

Purpose: to assess overranging (OR) as a function of pitch, collimation and rotation time for three commonly used CT models in France.
Methods: OR was measured using XR-SP2 Gafchromic films (Ashland, USA) and computed from exposure data for three widely used CT models in France. The impact of collimation, pitch and rotation time on OR was analyzed while comparing the three CT models.

Patients carrying autosomal dominant mutations in the histone/lysine acetyl transferases CBP or EP300 develop a neurodevelopmental disorder: Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RSTS). The biological pathways underlying these neurodevelopmental defects remain elusive. Here, we unravel the contribution of a stress-responsive pathway to RSTS.

Background: The evolution of patients hospitalized with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is still hard to predict, even after several months of dealing with the pandemic.
Aims: To develop and validate a score to predict outcomes in patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
Methods: All consecutive adults hospitalized for COVID-19 from February to April 2020 were included in a nationwide observational study.

Lung transplantation (LTx) is the last-resort treatment for end-stage respiratory insufficiency, whatever its origin, and represents a steadily expanding field of endeavor. Major developments have been impelled over the years by painstaking efforts at LTx centers to improve donor and recipient selection, and multifaceted attempts have been made to meet the challenges raised by surgical management, perioperative care, and long-term medical complications. The number of procedures has increased, leading to improved post-LTx prognosis.

Fluid administration is a cornerstone of treatment of critically ill patients. The aim of this review is to reappraise the pathophysiology of fluid therapy, considering the mechanisms related to the interplay of flow and pressure variables, the systemic response to the shock syndrome, the effects of different types of fluids administered and the concept of preload dependency responsiveness. In this context, the relationship between preload, stroke volume (SV) and fluid administration is that the volume infused has to be large enough to increase the driving pressure for venous return, and that the resulting increase in end-diastolic volume produces an increase in SV only if both ventricles are operating on the steep part of the curve.

Background: Negative life events (NLEs) increase the risk for externalizing behaviors (EBs) and internalizing behaviors (IBs) in adolescence and adult psychopathology. DNA methylation associated with behavioral problems may reflect this risk and long-lasting effects of NLEs.
Methods: To identify consistent associations between blood DNA methylation and EBs or IBs across adolescence, we conducted longitudinal epigenome-wide association studies (EWASs) using data from the IMAGEN cohort, collected at ages 14 and 19 years (n = 506).

Background: Understanding mechanisms associated with depressed smokers is a relevant question given that tobacco use disorder with comorbid major depressive disorder (MDD) has worse outcomes. The beta-arrestin 1 (ARRB1) pathway is a suggested biomarker for major depressive disorder and is involved in both antidepressant mechanism of action and tobacco addiction. We aimed to assess the association between smoking and peripheral ARRB1 expression in participants who exhibited MDD with current major depressive episode (MDE).

Background: Impairment or distress caused by gambling disorder can be subjectively assessed via quality of life. The aim of this study was to develop a new patient-reported outcome instrument to explore the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in gambling disorders, the Gambling quality-of-life scale (GQoLS), and to document its psychometric properties.
Methods: A previous qualitative study had been conducted using focus groups of problem gamblers to identify areas of HRQoL impacted by gambling.

Primary Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune exocrinopathy related to lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glandular epithelia (such as salivary, lacrimal, nasal, and sebaceous glands or vaginal mucosa) with systemic manifestations of an immuno-inflammatory nature, and not associated with any other systemic disease. It is characterized by severe dryness (Sicca syndrome), particularly in mouth and eyes, with potential strong impact on quality of life and could increase the risk of depression in Sjögren's patient. To date, the impairment of taste and olfactory functions related to Sjögren syndrome remains poorly assessed; so is the trigeminal functions which remain sparsely studied in patients with Sjögren disease.

Aim: Gene-based immunotherapy against cancer is limited by low gene transfer efficiency. In the literature, interleukin-12 (IL-12) encoding plasmid associated with sonoporation has been shown to enhance antitumoral activity. Moreover, non-viral carriers and high-frequency ultrasound have both been shown to promote immune response activation.

Cavernous sinus meningiomas (CSMs) remain a surgical challenge due to the intimate involvement of their contained nerves and blood vessels. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a safe and effective minimally invasive alternative for the treatment of small- to medium-sized CSMs. Objective: To assess the medium- to long-term outcomes of SRS for CSMs with respect to tumour growth, prevention of further neurological deterioration and improvement of existing neurological deficits.
