Antifungal susceptibility testing practices in mycology laboratories in France, 2018.

A survey of mycology laboratories for antifungal susceptibility testing (AFST) was undertaken in France in 2018, to better understand the difference in practices between the participating centers and to identify the difficulties they may encounter as well as eventual gaps with published standards and guidelines. The survey captured information from 45 mycology laboratories in France on how they perform AFST (number of strains tested, preferred method, technical and quality aspects, interpretation of the MIC values, reading and interpretation difficulties). Results indicated that 86% of respondents used Etest as AFST method, with a combination of one to seven antifungal agents tested.

[Screening of frailty in family practice by the modified SEGA grid].

The objective of this study was to evaluate frailty by the use of the modified SEGA grid in a population aged 75 years and older. This cross-sectional study was carried out in Marne (Champagne Ardenne), including subjects aged 75 years or more, who can go to medical general practitioners consultation. Frailty was assessed by the modified SEGA tool.

Familial breast cancer and DNA repair genes: Insights into known and novel susceptibility genes from the GENESIS study, and implications for multigene panel testing.

Pathogenic variants in BRCA1 and BRCA2 only explain the underlying genetic cause of about 10% of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer families. Because of cost-effectiveness, multigene panel testing is often performed even if the clinical utility of testing most of the genes remains questionable. The purpose of our study was to assess the contribution of rare, deleterious-predicted variants in DNA repair genes in familial breast cancer (BC) in a well-characterized and homogeneous population.

Distribution of left ventricular trabeculation across age and gender in 140 healthy Caucasian subjects on MR imaging.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to quantify the distribution of trabeculated (T) and compact (C) left ventricular (LV) myocardium masses in a healthy Caucasian population against age, gender and LV parameters, and to provide normal values for T, C and T/C.

Materials And Methods: One hundred and forty healthy subjects were prospectively recruited and underwent cardiac MRI at 1.5T with a stack of short-axis cine sequences covering the entire LV.

[Alzheimer's disease cerebro-spinal fluid biomarkers: A clinical research tool sometimes useful in daily clinical practice of memory clinics for the diagnosis of complex cases].

The role of biomarkers in clinical research was recently highlighted in the new criteria for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers (total Tau protein, threonine 181 phosphorylated Tau protein and amyloid Aβ1-42 peptide) are associated with cerebral neuropathological lesions observed in Alzheimer's disease (neuronal death, neurofibrillary tangle with abnormal Tau deposits and amyloid plaque). Aβ1-40 amyloid peptide dosage helps to interpret Aβ1-42 results.

Primary Progressive Aphasia in the Network of French Alzheimer Plan Memory Centers.

Background: Few demographical data about primary progressive aphasia (PPA) are available, and most knowledge regarding PPA is based on tertiary centers' results.

Objective: Our aims were to describe demographical characteristics of the PPA population in a large sample of PPA patients from the network of French Alzheimer plan memory centers (Sample 1), and to describe the stratification of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers in two different samples of PPA patients (Samples 2 and 3).

Methods: All registered PPA patients in the French Alzheimer's disease (AD) databank (Sample 1: n = 2,035) and a subsample (Sample 2: n = 65) derived from a multicentric prospective cohort with CSF biomarker analysis were analyzed.

Cryptosporidium spp. Infection in Solid Organ Transplantation: The Nationwide "TRANSCRYPTO" Study.

Background: Diarrhea is a frequent complication of solid organ transplantation. Cryptosporidiosis is classically reported in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and emerged as a cause of persistent diarrhea in solid organ transplant patients.

Methods: Through the ANOFEL Cryptosporidium National Network and the French Transplantation Society, we collected all cryptosporidiosis cases identified in solid organ transplanted patients between 2006 and 2010 in France.

Utility of CSF biomarkers in psychiatric disorders: a national multicentre prospective study.

Background: Affective and psychotic disorders are mental or behavioural patterns resulting in an inability to cope with life's ordinary demands and routines. These conditions can be a prodromal event of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The prevalence of underlying AD lesions in psychiatric diseases is unknown, and it would be helpful to determine them in patients.

Magnetic resonance imaging for abnormally invasive placenta: the added value of intravenous gadolinium injection.

Objectives: To assess the added value of intravenous gadolinium injection to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) -based diagnosis of abnormally invasive placenta (AIP) and to examine this in relation to the radiologist's experience.

Design: Retrospective study.

Setting: Between March 2009 and October 2012, 31 pregnant women who had previous caesarean delivery together with a placenta praevia and suspected placenta accreta on ultrasound in the third trimester of pregnancy.

High risk of cancer in autoimmune necrotizing myopathies: usefulness of myositis specific antibody.

Cancer can occur in patients with inflammatory myopathies. This association is mainly observed in dermatomyositis, and myositis-specific antibodies have allowed us to delineate patients at an increased risk. Malignancy is also reported in patients with necrotizing autoimmune myopathies, but the risk remains elusive.

GENESIS: a French national resource to study the missing heritability of breast cancer.

Background: Less than 20% of familial breast cancer patients who undergo genetic testing for BRCA1 and BRCA2 carry a pathogenic mutation in one of these two genes. The GENESIS (GENE SISter) study was designed to identify new breast cancer susceptibility genes in women attending cancer genetics clinics and with no BRCA1/2 mutation.

Methods: The study involved the French national network of family cancer clinics.

Lung Volume Reduction Coil Treatment vs Usual Care in Patients With Severe Emphysema: The REVOLENS Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Therapeutic options for severe emphysema are limited. Lung volume reduction using nitinol coils is a bronchoscopic intervention inducing regional parenchymal volume reduction and restoring lung recoil.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy, safety, cost, and cost-effectiveness of nitinol coils in treatment of severe emphysema.

Efficacy of Rituximab in Refractory Inflammatory Myopathies Associated with Anti- Synthetase Auto-Antibodies: An Open-Label, Phase II Trial.

Objective: Anti-synthetase syndrome (anti-SS) is frequently associated with myositis and interstitial lung disease (ILD). We evaluated prospectively, in a multicenter, open-label, phase II study, the efficacy of rituximab on muscle and lung outcomes.

Methods: Patients were enrolled if they were refractory to conventional treatments (prednisone and at least 2 immunosuppressants).

MEN1 disease occurring before 21 years old: a 160-patient cohort study from the Groupe d'étude des Tumeurs Endocrines.

Context: Multiple endocrine neoplasia Type-1 (MEN1) in young patients is only described by case reports.

Objective: To improve the knowledge of MEN1 natural history before 21 years old.

Methods: Obtain a description of the first symptoms occurring before 21 years old (clinical symptoms, biological or imaging abnormalities), surgical outcomes related to MEN1 Neuro Endocrine Tumors (NETs) occurring in a group of 160 patients extracted from the "Groupe d'étude des Tumeurs Endocrines" MEN1 cohort.

Evaluation of low-dose rituximab for the retreatment of patients with active rheumatoid arthritis: a non-inferiority randomised controlled trial.

Background: The licensed dose of rituximab in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is two doses of 1000 mg given 2 weeks apart. A lower dose has never been specifically studied in patients with an inadequate response to anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF) agents.

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of rituximab repeat treatment with two doses (1000 mg×1 and 1000 mg×2) following initial treatment with 1000 mg×2.

[Cryosurgery and photodynamic therapy for the treatment of Paget's disease of the vulva: two cases].

Background: Surgery is the standard treatment for vulvar Paget's disease, despite its mutilating consequences and the high associated recurrence rate. Alternative treatments such as CO₂ laser, application of imiquimod and topical photodynamic therapy (PDT) have recently been proposed. We report on two patients with vulvar Paget's disease treated with combined cryosurgery and PDT.

[Rebleeding from a vertebral artery dissection in a child: an inflammatory vasculopathy?].

We present a case of a rebleeding remote from a vertebral artery dissection associated with subarachnoid haemorrhage. A 7-year-old boy without any antecedent presented a traumatic dissection of the vertebral artery with subarachnoid haemorrhage. After a conservative treatment, the morphology of the vertebral artery became normal and the boy was asymptomatic.

Crohn's disease patients with chronic intestinal failure receiving long-term parenteral nutrition: a cross-national adult study.

Background: Chronic intestinal failure (CIF) is a very rare Crohn's disease (CD) complication.

Aim:   To determine incidence of CIF treated with home parenteral nutrition (HPN) in adult CD patients and to isolate factors associated with severe CIF.

Methods: This retrospective multicentre study included 38 patients with CD-related CIF treated with HPN for at least 12 months in French HPN centres.

[Interstitial pneumonia after infliximab therapy for psoriasis].

Background: Tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha inhibitors are increasingly used for treatment of severe psoriasis. Hypersensitivity pneumonia is a rare but frequently fatal side-effect of such therapy that is unknown to most dermatologists.

Patients And Methods: A 68-year-old woman was hospitalized for subacute dyspnoea, fever, dry cough and basal chest pain 3 months after beginning infliximab therapy for severe psoriasis.
