Background: Psychiatric disorders often emerge during adolescence or young adulthood, leading to significant disability among youth. The transition from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS) is critical for individuals experiencing emerging psychopathology, with delayed access to care negatively impacting long-term outcomes. Accessing mental health services for adolescents and young adults is often complex and delayed due to challenges in service visibility, accessibility and appropriateness.

Background And Objectives: Sleepiness in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with accidental and economic burden, as well as cardiovascular risk. Despite OSA treatment, 10-28 % of patients report residual sleepiness. Its determinants, as well as those of objective impaired alertness remain poorly known.

Background: Pregnant women are more vulnerable to the severe effects of COVID-19 compared to their non-pregnant peers. Early in the pandemic, there was a rise in cesarean deliveries and preterm births among infected pregnant women. This study aims to evaluate whether there were any changes in obstetric interventions during the first two waves of the pandemic in Belgium.

Background: Surgical de-escalation aims to reduce morbidity without compromising oncological outcomes. Trials to de-escalate breast cancer (BC) surgery among exceptional responders after neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NST) are ongoing. Combined patient and clinician insights on this strategy are unknown.

Biallelic loss-of-function variants in the IYD gene cause hypothyroidism resulting from iodine wasting. We describe 8 patients (from 4 families in which the parents are first cousins) who are homozygous for a variant in IYD (including a novel missense deleterious variant, c.791C>T [P264L], in 1 family).

Patients with cardiac disease exhibit exaggerated sympathoexcitation, pressor, and ventilatory responses to muscle metaboreflex activation (MMA). However, the effects of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) and especially resistance training (RT) modalities on MMA are not well known. This study investigated how CR impacts MMA in such patients, specifically examining the effects of two different resistance training (RT) protocols following 12 weeks of CR.

Objectives: The functions of eating, drinking, speaking, and breathing demand close coordination of the upper airway musculature which may be challenged by the long-term use of daytime non-invasive ventilation (NIV). This rapid review explores the challenges and practicalities of these interactions in people with neuromuscular disorders.
Methods: A search was performed on PubMed (period 2000-2023) using generic terms to refer to eating, drinking, and speaking related to people with neuromuscular disorders on NIV.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is reported to be amongst the cancers with the lowest survival rate at 5 years. In the present study we aimed to validate a targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) panel to use in clinical routine, investigating genes important for PDAC diagnostic, prognostic and potential theragnostic aspect. In this NGS panel we also designed target regions to inquire about loss of heterozygosity (LOH) of chromosome 18 that has been described to be possibly linked to a worse disease progression.

Purpose: Managing children undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) presents a significant challenge for anesthesiologists. Machine Learning (ML)-assisted tools have the potential to enhance the recognition of patients at risk of complications and predict potential issues, ultimately improving outcomes.
Methods: We evaluated the prediction capacity of six models, ranging from logistic regression to support vector machine, using a dataset comprising 33 variables and 1364 subjects.

Background: Anemia is common among hospitalized critically ill and surgical oncological patients. The rising incidence of cancer and aggressive treatments has increased the demand for blood products, further strained by a dwindling donor pool. The normobaric oxygen paradox (NOP) has emerged as a potential avenue to increase EPO levels.

Background: Following STRIDE-II recommendations, the discovery of novel noninvasive biomarkers, beyond the use of C-reactive protein (CRP) and fecal calprotectin, remains a medical need to further improve the monitoring of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This study aims to evaluate the potential of serum lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) in monitoring IBD activity.
Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 69 IBD patients (43 Crohn's disease and 26 ulcerative colitis) and 82 controls.

Background: Hormone receptor expression is a known positive prognostic and predictive factor in breast cancer; however, limited evidence exists on its prognostic impact on prognosis of young patients harboring a pathogenic variant (PV) in the BRCA1 and/or BRCA2 genes.
Patients And Methods: This international, multicenter, retrospective cohort study included young patients (aged ≤40 years) diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and harboring germline PVs in BRCA genes. We investigated the impact of hormone receptor status on clinical behavior and outcomes of breast cancer.

Synthetic computed tomography (sCT) generated from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can serve as a substitute for planning CT in radiation therapy (RT), thereby removing registration uncertainties associated with multi-modality imaging pairing, reducing costs and patient radiation exposure. CE/FDA-approved sCT solutions are nowadays available for pelvis, brain, and head and neck, while more complex deep learning (DL) algorithms are under investigation for other anatomic sites. The main challenge in achieving a widespread clinical implementation of sCT lies in the absence of consensus on sCT commissioning and quality assurance (QA), resulting in variation of sCT approaches across different hospitals.

Aims: The oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) poses substantial health risks and affects quality of life. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are gaining prominence for their crucial role in early detection and adapting rehabilitation and management decisions. This highlights the need for culturally pertinent versions in different languages, especially when addressing conditions like OD.

Purpose: Pregnant women are at risk of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection, potentially leading to obstetric and neonatal complications. Placental transfer of antibodies directed to SARS-CoV-2 may be protective against neonatal COVID-19, but this remains to be studied. We aimed to determine the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in a population of unvaccinated pregnant women and to determine the placental transfer of these antibodies.

Background: Extensive esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissections (ESDs) without preventive measures carry a high risk of stricture. Oral steroids and local injection of triamcinolone acetonide have proven to be effective in Asia for the prevention of esophageal stricture. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of a systematic steroid administration protocol for stricture prevention in a Western center.
