Objectives: This study evaluates the clinical impact of adjusting the loading dose of clopidogrel according to vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP) index in patients with clopidogrel resistance undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Background: Clopidogrel resistance plays a key role in ischemic recurrence after PCI. In vitro tests of clopidogrel resistance can accurately predict major adverse cardiac events after PCI.

Vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein phosphorylation analysis prior to percutaneous coronary intervention for exclusion of postprocedural major adverse cardiovascular events.

Background: Despite dual antiplatelet therapy, the rate of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) after percutaneous coronary angioplasty remains high. Studies have shown interindividual variations in response to clopidogrel. Furthermore, there is an apparent link between clinical outcomes and clopidogrel resistance.

[Myocardial infarction during post-abortion DIC].

We report the case of a 40 year old woman admitted for dilatation and curettage at 12 weeks of amenorrhoea with post-abortion partial placental retention. Clinically she had developed disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) complicated by an acute coronary syndrome with persistent ST elevation in the inferior leads. Management of her myocardial ischaemia was symptomatic, due to the underlying complex coagulation disorder making coronary reperfusion techniques impossible.

Overview of real-time RT-PCR strategies for quantification of gene rearrangements in the myeloid malignancies.

In acute myeloid leukemia (AML), molecular diagnosis for the optimal management of patients and for minimal residual disease (MRD) monitoring is of extreme importance. Cumulative data suggest that quantitative monitoring or MRD in AML with fusion transcripts corresponding to 5(I;21), inv(16), and t(15;17) is useful in distinguishing patients at high risk of relapse from those in durable remission. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RQ-PCR) is by far the most sensitive assay in the context of MRD detection.

Assessment of a new RNA stabilizing reagent (Tempus Blood RNA) for minimal residual disease in onco-hematology using the EAC protocol.

Standardization efforts of real time quantitative PCR (RQ-PCR), such as the Europe Against Cancer (EAC) protocol, are actually essential. However, all the stages of the preanalytical phase (blood collection, conservation and procedures of cellular separation) which influence the ex vivo expression of many genes are not controlled. Various kits for stabilizing the RNA at the time of blood collection were developed: PAXgene Blood kit (Qiagen) and the new Tempus Blood RNA kit (Applied Biosystems).

Endovascular treatment of iliocaval occlusion due to idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis.

Idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis is a rare cause of venous occlusion that is mainly treated conservatively or surgically. However, endovascular techniques can be proposed for its treatment. We report here a case of a 64-year-old man who was admitted for bilateral lower limb swelling due to iliocaval occlusion caused by idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis.

High accuracy of automatic detection of atrial fibrillation using wavelet transform of heart rate intervals.

Permanent and paroxysmal AF is a risk factor for the occurrence and the recurrence of stroke, which can occur as its first manifestation. However, its automatic identification is still unsatisfactory. In this study, a new mathematical approach was evaluated to automate AF identification.

Intestinal retractor for transperitoneal laparoscopic aortoiliac reconstruction: experimental study on human cadavers and initial clinical experience.

Background: We set out to design a bowel retractor for use during laparoscopic transperitoneal reconstruction of the infrarenal aorta and of both iliac axes.
