Background: The aim of this simulation was to examine the utility of a novel ECG-based index of cardiac action potential (AP) triangulation, the Tstart-to-Tpeak (TsTp) interval-to-JTstart (JTs) interval ratio, for assessment of changes in AP profile imposed through variations in the duration of the plateau phase and the phase 3 repolarization.
Methods: ECGs were simulated using a realistic rabbit model based on experimental data. The AP plateau was measured at APD30, and the phase 3 was assessed as APD90-to-APD30 difference (AP durations at 90 % and 30 % repolarization, respectively).

Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory, autoimmune demyelinating condition and poses diagnostic challenges due to varied presentations. This case report presents a divergence from typical clinical presentations of multiple sclerosis (MS), as the initial presentation resembled symptoms of a brain stem stroke. Conventionally, MS suspicion arises in the presence of previous neurological deficits or signs of optic neuritis.

Introduction: Waist circumference (WC) is used as a measure of metabolic syndrome (MeS); neck circumference (NC) can predict MeS. It is simpler to measure and may provide an indication of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Materials And Methods: NC was measured.

Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) usually presents with progressive gait impairment, urinary incontinence, and cognitive deficits. Many studies have shown that NPH can mimic other disorders like Parkinson disease with tremors and rigidity. In this report, we present our experience with three patients who had psychotic behavior and were treated with psychiatric medications but were subsequently investigated and found to have NPH.

Background: Tooth agenesis refers to the absence of one or more of the deciduous or permanent teeth. Tooth agenesis results from a series of disrupted reciprocal ectodermal mesenchymal interactions taking place during the early stages of tooth development.
Methods: A narrative literature review was performed to describe the main genetic syndromes associated with tooth agenesis.

Dermatomyositis is a multi-system, connective tissue immune-mediated inflammatory condition characterised by myositis and distinct skin manifestations, with a higher prevalence in women. Symptoms typically appear in adulthood, though a juvenile form exists. Early signs may include Gottron's papules and heliotrope rash, with proximal muscle weakness as the second most common initial symptom.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to analyze the characteristics of pyelonephritis with multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria in pregnant women in comparison to pyelonephritis with multidrug-sensitive bacteria in this particular patient group.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study over a period of three years on a study group of 17 pregnant patients with pyelonephritis with MDR bacteria and on a control group of 52 pregnant patients with pyelonephritis with multidrug-sensitive bacteria. We analyzed the demographic data, the potential risk factors, aspects of the clinical picture, the incidence and type of bacteria involved, and their sensitivity spectrum.

Introduction: Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are established treatments for peritoneal surface malignancies, traditionally performed via laparotomy. Recent advancements in laparoscopic approaches (L-CRS + HIPEC) have shown promising results in selected patients.
Methods: The PSOGI registry, established in November 2019, collects data from specialized centers performing L-CRS + HIPEC.

Background: Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder that manifests primarily with jaundice and pruritus and can progresses from persistent cholestasis to cirrhosis and late childhood liver failure. Classically, progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis is classified into three subtypes: 1, 2, and 3 and results from a defect in a biliary protein responsible for bile formation and circulation in the liver. In the last decade and with the increased use of genetic testing, more types have been known.

Background: The aim of our study was to analyze the factors associated with the increased risk of urinary tract infection (UTI) with carbapenem-resistant (CR) () and the antibiotic resistance spectrum of the strains in patients. As secondary objectives, we elaborated the profile of these patients and the incidence of different types of carbapenemases.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective case-control study in which we compared a group of 62 patients with urinary tract infections with CR with a control group consisting of 136 patients with urinary tract infections with multidrug-resistant (MDR), but carbapenem-sensitive (CS), , who were hospitalized between 1 January 2022 and 31 March 2024.

Background: Ganglioneuromatosis is a rare type of benign neurogenic tumor that usually affects the sites of the major sympathetic ganglia in the retroperitoneum and the posterior mediastinum. Affection of the gastrointestinal tract is rare, and involvement of the esophagus is exceptional. To the best of our knowledge, only 4 cases of esophageal ganglioneuromatosis in adults were reported in the literature.

Purpose: Pediatric surgical care in low- and middle-income countries is often hindered by systemic gaps in healthcare resources, infrastructure, training, and organization. This study aims to develop and validate the Global Assessment of Pediatric Surgery (GAPS) to appraise pediatric surgical capacity and discriminate between levels of care across diverse healthcare settings.
Methods: The GAPS Version 1 was constructed through a synthesis of existing assessment tools and expert panel consultation.

Background: The global population is undergoing a significant surge in aging leading to increased susceptibility to various forms of progressive illnesses. This phenomenon significantly impacts both individual health and healthcare systems. Low and Middle Income Countries face particular challenges, as their Primary Health Care (PHC) settings often lack the necessary human and material resources to effectively address the escalating healthcare demands of the older people.

Urosepsis is a significant cause of maternal and fetal mortality. While certain risk factors for urinary tract infections (UTIs) in pregnant women are well established, those associated with an elevated risk of urosepsis in pregnant women with upper UTIs remain less defined. This study aims to identify factors linked to an increased risk of urosepsis and examine urologic treatment outcomes in such cases.

Background: Early commencement of rehabilitation might counteract the loss of muscle strength due to a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease acute exacerbation (COPDAE). Blood flow restriction resistance exercise (BFR-RE) using a low intensity of training load has demonstrated muscle strength gain in varieties of clinical populations. This trial aimed at studying the efficacy and acceptability of BFR-RE in patients with post-COPDAE which was not reported before.

The surgical resection of solid tumours can be enhanced by fluorescence-guided imaging. However, variable tumour uptake and incomplete clearance of fluorescent dyes reduces the accuracy of distinguishing tumour from normal tissue via conventional fluorescence intensity-based imaging. Here we show that, after systemic injection of the near-infrared dye indocyanine green in patients with various types of solid tumour, the fluorescence lifetime (FLT) of tumour tissue is longer than the FLT of non-cancerous tissue.

Unlabelled: The laparoscopic approach for cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (L-CRS + HIPEC) in highly selected patients was previously reported from the PSOGI registry with a demonstrable reduction in length of stay and post-operative morbidity. This study aims to update this international PSOGI registry with a larger cohort of patients and a longer follow-up period.
Methods: An international registry was designed through a networking database (REDCAP®).

Objective: We explored longitudinal changes associated with switching to hybrid closed-loop (HCL) insulin delivery systems in adults with type 1 diabetes and elevated HbA1c levels despite the use of intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM) and insulin pump therapy.
Research Design And Methods: We undertook a pragmatic, preplanned observational study of participants included in the National Health Service England closed-loop pilot. Adults using isCGM and insulin pump across 31 diabetes centers in England with an HbA1c ≥8.
