The American lobster (Homarus americanus) is an economically important species in the western Atlantic and its climate-driven range shift northward along the east coast of the United States is well documented. The thermal tolerance of lab-reared postlarvae of this species has been extensively investigated to better understand settlement and recruitment dynamics. However, there have been few studies focused on wild-caught postlarvae, and even fewer that have analyzed lab-rearing conditions in context of diet.

Article Synopsis
  • Physical activity has positive effects on both physical and mental health, and this study examines how it relates to resting frontal alpha asymmetry (FAA), which indicates brain activity associated with emotions and motivations.
  • The research involved 70 college students who reported their physical and sedentary activities, finding that women showed a positive relationship between physical activity and FAA, while men exhibited a negative relationship.
  • Additionally, increased sedentary behavior was linked to higher FAA across all participants, suggesting that both physical activity and sitting time can influence emotional and motivational brain mechanisms differently for each gender.

Article Synopsis
  • Compensatory growth (CG) in juvenile green turtles occurs after food restriction, leading to accelerated growth when food becomes available again, but it may have negative consequences.
  • Turtles undergoing different feeding regimens were analyzed for bone structure, revealing that those with partial CG showed better food conversion efficiency after realimentation.
  • The study found that when food availability increased, the restoration of bone growth prioritized lengths over widths and favored certain microstructural attributes, indicating shifts in nutrient allocation that may influence long-term bone health.

Locomotion is a highly flexible process, requiring rapid changes to gait due to changes in the environment or goals. Here, we used a split-belt treadmill to examine how the central nervous system coordinates a novel gait pattern. Existing research has focused on summary measures, most often step lengths, when describing changes induced while walking on the split-belt treadmill and during subsequent aftereffects.

Recent national initiatives in nursing and public health have emphasized the need for a robust public health nursing (PHN) workforce. In this article, we analyze the extent to which recent national enumeration surveys base their counts of this workforce on the definitions, scope, and standards for practice and practice competencies of the PHN nursing specialty. By and large, enumeration surveys continue to rely on practice setting to define the PHN workforce, which is an insufficient approach for meeting the goals of major nursing and public health initiatives.
