Neural regeneration has troubled investigators worldwide in the past decades. Currently, cell transplantation emerged as a breakthrough targeted therapy for spinal cord injury (SCI) in the neurotrauma field, which provides a promising strategy in neural regeneration. Olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs), a specialized type of glial cells, is considered as the excellent candidate due to its unique variable and intrinsic regeneration-supportive properties.

Objective: Femoral fractures are a common cause of mortality and functional loss, mainly among older people, and there are few studies about the age in relation to traumatic femoral fractures. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of age on the patterns of traumatic femoral fractures in patients presenting to our regional tertiary hospital.
Methods: The records of 2020 patients who presented with traumatic femoral fractures between 2013 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed.

Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) is an endemic, degenerative osteoarthropathy that exhibits some similar characteristics to osteoarthritis (OA) but with different etiologies and pathogeneses. In addition to cartilage damage, microstructural changes of bone were observed in KBD. This study aimed to comparatively demonstrate the general histopathological changes, transcriptomics, and differentially expressed miRNAs of subchondral bone between KBD and OA.

Accurate prediction of tibiofemoral contact force (TFCF) during daily living activities is significant for understanding the initiation, progression, and treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). However, the diversity of target activities, prediction accuracy, and computational efficiency of the current musculoskeletal simulations need to be further improved. In this study, a subject-specific musculoskeletal model considered the tibiofemoral alignment, medial-lateral contact locations, secondary tibiofemoral and all patellofemoral motions, and knee ligaments was proposed to predict the TFCFs during the five daily activities (normal walking, sit-to-stand, stand-to-sit, stair ascent, and stair descent) in OpenSim software.

How to deal with large soft tissue defects around the foot and ankle is still controversial. The aim of this study was: (1) to display a new pedicled flap, also named the dual-perforator flap with wide pedicle (DPFWP), and (2) to compare it with the sural neurovascular flap with peroneal artery perforator (SNFPAP) in foot and ankle reconstruction. According to different surgical methods, 82 patients were divided into 2 groups: the DPFWP group (42 cases) and the SNFPAP group (40 cases).

Background And Objective: Loosening and wear are still the main problems for the failure of total ankle arthroplasty, which are closely related to the micromotion at the bone-implant interface and the contact stress and joint motions at the articular surfaces. Implant design is a key factor to influence the ankle force, motions, contact stress, and bone-implant interface micromotion. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the differences in these parameters of INBONE II, INFINITY, and a new anatomic ankle implant under the physiological walking gait of three patients.

Background: Valgus braces are prescribed as a common conservative treatment option for patients with medial gonarthrosis to improve their quality of life. Many studies had reviewed the effects of the valgus braces on patients with medial gonarthrosis, while they mainly focused on the knee adduction moment (KAM), with less attention paid to other parameters such as spatiotemporal and morphological parameters.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to review the effects of valgus braces on the spatiotemporal, kinematic/kinetic, morphological, and muscle parameters.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating type of neurological disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) with high mortality and disability. The pathological processes of SCI can usually be described as two stages, namely, primary and acute secondary injuries. Secondary injury produces more significant exacerbations of the initial injury.

LncRNA myocardial infarction-associated transcript (MIAT) alleviates acute spinal cord injury (ASCI)-induced neuronal cell apoptosis, but the specific mechanism of it involved in regulating SCI progression needs further exploration. Here, a SCI rat model was established, followed by administration with adenovirus-mediated MIAT overexpression vector (Ad-MIAT) alone or together with Ad-RBFOX2 (RNA binding fox-1 homolog 2). The data indicated that MIAT overexpression promoted motor function recovery, improved morphology of injured tissues, and restrained neuron loss and cell apoptosis in SCI rats.

Introduction: Research on preoperative blood management in older patients with delayed surgery for intertrochanteric fracture is scarce, especially regarding hematopoiesis and hemostasis. We assessed the effectiveness of optimized blood management programs in older patients undergoing delayed surgery for intertrochanteric fractures.
Methods: This retrospective study included 456 patients who underwent delayed surgery for intertrochanteric fractures.

Transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) has been demonstrated to be beneficial for spinal cord injury (SCI) by modulating neuroinflammation, supporting neuronal survival and promoting angiogenesis. Besides OECs, the conditioned medium (CM) from OECs has also been proved to have therapeutic effects for SCI, indicating that the bioactive substances secreted by OECs are essential for its protective effects. Nevertheless, there is still little information regarding the underlying mechanisms.

Objective: An inferior pole fracture of the patella requires surgical treatment to restore the knee extension mechanism of the knee joint. Different from other types of patellar fractures, inferior pole fractures are usually comminuted, and other traditional fixation methods, such as tension band wiring, may not meet the fixation needs. We propose fixing inferior pole fractures of the patella with a custom-made anchor-like plate combined with cerclage and report the surgical outcomes.

Chordoma is a rare bone tumor, and the recurrence rate of chordoma is high, the treatment is difficult, and the prognosis is poor. Therefore, it is of great significance to find key target genes for the treatment of chordoma. Microarray was used to analyze the significant gene associated with chordoma.

Objectives: Leucine aminopeptidase 3 (LAP3), an M1 member of leucine aminopeptidase, was reported to be significantly upregulated in serum of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients. However, the underlying mechanisms of LAP3 in NAFLD pathogenesis are still unknown. We aim to investigate the role of LAP3 in NAFLD pathogenesis and explore whether LAP3 has the potential to be a candidate biomarker in serum for NAFLD diagnosis.

Functionalized self-assembling peptides, which display functional growth-factor bioactivity, can be designed by connecting the C-terminus of a pure self-assembling peptide with a short functional motif. In this study, we designed a novel functionalized peptide (RADA16-SNVI) in which an SNVI motif with hBMP-7 activity was conjugated onto the C-terminus of the RADA16 peptide via solid-phase synthesis. A mix of RADA16-SNVI and RADA16 solutions was used to create a functionalized peptide nanofiber scaffold (SNVI-RADA16).

Aseptic loosening after total hip replacement brings adverse health outcomes and increased risk for complications. The resorptive activity of inflammatory cells activated by the presence of wear-generated debris plays a critical role in debris-induced osteolysis. Previous studies indicate that the abnormally expressed LINC01534 plays a critical role in inflammatory responses.
