Ionic thermal sensors (ITSs) represent a promising frontier in sensing technology, offering unique advantages over conventional electronic sensors. Comprising a polymer matrix and electrolyte, these sensors possess inherent flexibility, stretchability, and biocompatibility, allowing them to establish stable and intimate contact with soft surfaces without inducing mechanical or thermal stress. Through an ion migration/dissociation mechanism similar to biosensing, ITSs ensure low impedance contact and high sensitivity, especially in physiological monitoring applications.

This study examined how Eucommia ulmoides flavonoids (EUF) protect against intestinal oxidative stress induced by deoxynivalenol (DON) in weaned piglets. Forty weaned piglets were randomly assigned to four dietary groups for a period of 14 days. The piglets were fed a control diet (Control) or the Control diet supplemented with 100 mg EUF/kg (EUF group), 4 mg DON/kg diet (DON group) or both (EUF+DON group) in a 2×2 factorial design.

Ion implantation is widely utilised for the modification of inorganic semiconductors; however, the technique has not been extensively applied to lead halide perovskites. In this report, we demonstrate the modification of the optical properties of caesium lead bromide (CsPbBr) thin films via noble gas ion implantation. We observed that the photoluminescence (PL) lifetimes of CsPbBrthin films can be doubled by low fluences (<1 × 10at·cm) of ion implantation with an acceleration voltage of 20 keV.

Background: Older adults aged over 65 are increasingly admitted to hospital for acute care reasons, including surgical procedures. In multicultural societies, the diversity of an ageing population has significant implications for the planning and delivery of culturally responsive perioperative care for older adults from ethnically diverse backgrounds, who are admitted to hospital for surgical intervention.
Objective: To explore the perspectives and experiences of perioperative staff when caring for older adult patients from ethnically diverse backgrounds.

. Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is an imaging technique that can effectively help patients reduce radiation dose, which has attracted increasing interest from researchers in the field of medical imaging. Nevertheless, LDCT imaging is often affected by a large amount of noise, making it difficult to clearly display subtle abnormalities or lesions.

Objectives: Cognitive frailty is characterized by concurrent physical frailty and mild cognitive impairment and is associated with increased risk of falls. Exercise is an evidence-based strategy to prevent falls, but whether exercise reduces falls in people with cognitive frailty is unknown. We examined the effects of home-based exercise on subsequent falls among community-dwelling older adults with cognitive frailty who have previously fallen.

Mental stress issues are emerging among residents of modern cities. Among environmental factors associated with stress mitigation, greenspace has consistently been shown to have significant stress-reducing properties. However, the temporality of greenspace exposure, particularly the cumulative threshold effect in urban environments, has been largely neglected in past studies.

Infrared (IR) radiation thermography is extensively utilized in diverse fields due to its non-contact capability. Nevertheless, its effectiveness is often compromised by the significant emissivity variations among different objects, limiting its application to specific setups or focused object types. Colorimetric thermography is introduced as an alternative emissivity-independent method of radiation thermometry.

Background: "One health" is an integrated, unifying approach that recognizes the interconnectedness between the health of people, animals, and the environment. Oral diseases are the most common diseases to affect humankind, and it is increasingly acknowledged that key determinants of oral heath are social and environmental. However, there is a dearth of information on the relationship between oral health and one health.

RNA Guanine-quadruplexes (rG4s) are important nucleic acid structures that govern vital biological processes. Although numerous tools have been developed to target rG4s, few specific tools are capable of discerning individual rG4 of interest. Herein, we design and synthesize the first L-aptamer-antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) conjugate, L-Apt.

Earlier research suggested that psychotic experiences (PEs), the extended-psychosis phenotype, are associated with cognitive impairment. Recent studies, however, revealed more mixed findings, and patterns and magnitude of cognitive deficits in PEs remain uncertain. We aimed to systematically review and quantitatively synthesize estimates of cognitive functioning covering a wide array of domains in individuals with versus without PEs.

Glioblastoma (GBM) immunotherapy is particularly challenging due to the pro-tumorigenic microenvironment, marked by low levels and inactive immune cells. Toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists have emerged as potent immune adjuvants but failed to show improved outcomes in clinical trials when administered as a monotherapy. We hypothesize that a combined nanoparticulate formulation of TLR agonist and immunogenic cell death-inducing drug (doxorubicin) will synergize to induce improved GBM immunotherapy.

Purpose: The Predicting Myopia Onset and progression (PreMO) risk indicator, developed using data generated from white children in the UK, incorporates age, spherical equivalent refraction (SER), axial length (AL) and parental myopia to stratify the likelihood of developing myopia. This study evaluated the PreMO's predictive accuracy using prospective datasets from independent samples of children in Hong Kong (HK) and an ethnically diverse cohort of children in the United Kingdom.
Methods: Non-myopic children (SER > -0.

Objectives The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) as a material for prefabricated crown restorations in pediatric dentistry, particularly for restoring primary tooth structure defects. Materials and methods This study analyzed the effects of three surface treatment modalities on PEEK's surface morphology, wettability (as measured by contact angle), and shear bond strength. These treatments included alumina (AlO) sandblasting alone, and in conjunction with a 98% sulfuric acid pretreatment.

An existing Ontario-based tool for community-dwelling elderly individuals does not perform well in people living with dementia specifically. This study seeks to develop and validate a clinical prediction tool to estimate survival in community-dwelling individuals living with dementia receiving home care in Ontario, Canada.

Background: There is limited evidence in the literature regarding the temporal changes of preeclampsia-related biomarkers during pregnancy in high-risk women who develop preeclampsia despite the administration of aspirin prophylaxis.
Objective: This study aimed to compare the temporal changes in mean arterial pressure, uterine artery pulsatility index, placental growth factor, and soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 across gestation in women identified as having high risk for preterm preeclampsia receiving aspirin prophylaxis and low-risk women without aspirin treatment.
Study Design: This was a prospective longitudinal nested case-control study of 2007 women with singleton pregnancies who participated in the first-trimester screen-and-prevent program for preeclampsia at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China, between January 2020 and May 2023.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) and its related pain are common challenges for patients receiving oxaliplatin chemotherapy. Oxaliplatin accumulation in dorsal root ganglion (DRGs) is known to impair gene transcription by epigenetic dysregulation. We hypothesized that sodium butyrate, a pro-resolution short-chain fatty acid, inhibited histone acetylation in DRGs and abolished K channel dysregulation-induced neuronal hyperexcitability after oxaliplatin treatment.

Background: Evidence shows that using the AWARD (Ask, Warn, Advise, Refer, Do-it-again) model with service-learning model in youngsters may be an appropriate strategy to refer young smokers for early smoking cessation services. Therefore this study aims to promote smoking cessation by training secondary school students as anti-smoke ambassadors (ASAs) with increased knowledge, skills and self-efficacy on smoking cessation and AWARD model using service-learning model.
Methods: A cluster randomized controlled trial will be conducted in 14 secondary schools in Hong Kong.
