In the wake of political upheaval, the Human Fertilisation and Embryo Authority (HFEA) has faced increasing insecurity over its future as a pivotal regulatory body of fertility practices in the UK. HFEA regulates activities by means of licensing, audit, and inspection of fertility centers and maintaining the Code of Practice, which ensures the optimum undertaking of licensed activities by fertility centers. In 2009, amendments to the 1990 Act came into force representing an amalgamation of cumulative proposals, debates, and changes in legislation, which have shaped the world of reproductive medicine.

Non-muscle-invasive (superficial) bladder cancer (NMIBC) represents 80% of incident cases of bladder cancer, and is characterized by a generally good prognosis, with a tendency to remain localized. Only 10%-20% of cases progress to invasion and/or metastasis. The biggest problem in management is the potential for local recurrence, and this will occur with relatively predictable prognostic determinants.

Objectives: Opt out antenatal HIV testing has significantly reduced mother to child transmission of HIV, but seroconversion during pregnancy from undiagnosed HIV positive male partners remains a risk. The authors report on a pilot initiative for sexual health and HIV screening for male partners of women attending antenatal ultrasound examination at Homerton Hospital, London.
Methods: Men attending with their female partners for routine ultrasound examination between 1 August 2010 and 31 January 2011 were offered on-site serology for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C and urine testing for Neiserria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis.

Pregnancy and childbirth are a major cause of pelvic floor dysfunction in women. Historically, symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction have attracted little attention from government policies, either in funding or targets, when compared with other conditions such as diabetes or cancer. With more than 30% of women in the childbearing years suffering from this debilitating and embarrassing condition, this article looks at National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and other guidelines that justify spending time and money on managing this group of women.
