According to the operational diagnostic criteria, psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia (SZ), bipolar disorder (BD), major depressive disorder (MDD), and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are classified based on symptoms. While its cluster of symptoms defines each of these psychiatric disorders, there is also an overlap in symptoms between the disorders. We hypothesized that there are also similarities and differences in cortical structural neuroimaging features among these psychiatric disorders.

Left main coronary artery ostial atresia (LMCAOA) is an extremely rare condition. Here, we report the case of a 14-year-old boy with Noonan syndrome-like disorder in whom LMCAOA was detected following cardiopulmonary arrest. The patient had been diagnosed with Noonan syndrome-like disorder with a pathogenic splice site variant of CBL c.

Object: Real-world data from wearable devices has the potential to understand mental health status in everyday life. We aimed to investigate the feasibility of estimating mental health status using a wrist-worn wearable device (Fitbit Sense) that measures movement using a 3D accelerometer and optical pulse photoplethysmography (PPG).
Methods: Participants were 110 patients with mental illnesses from different diagnostic groups.

Differential diagnosis is sometimes difficult in practical psychiatric settings, in terms of using the current diagnostic system based on presenting symptoms and signs. The creation of a novel diagnostic system using objective biomarkers is expected to take place. Neuroimaging studies and others reported that subcortical brain structures are the hubs for various psycho-behavioral functions, while there are so far no neuroimaging data-driven clinical criteria overcoming limitations of the current diagnostic system, which would reflect cognitive/social functioning.

Although fertility preservation for pediatric cancer patients is becoming more widespread in Japan, some facilities do not provide sufficient information regarding fertility. This study aimed to elucidate the problems pertaining to the lack of information about fertility among patients. Based on a 2020 survey, seminars addressing fertility preservation were held from the Designated Pediatric Cancer Care Hospitals in each of the seven blocks in Japan to their partner hospital (pediatric cancer hospitals).

Meningeal lesions can be caused by various conditions and pose diagnostic challenges. The authors review the anatomy of the meninges in the brain and spinal cord to provide a better understanding of the localization and extension of these diseases and summarize the clinical and imaging features of various conditions that cause dural and/or leptomeningeal enhancing lesions. These conditions include infectious meningitis (bacterial, tuberculous, viral, and fungal), autoimmune diseases (vasculitis, connective tissue diseases, autoimmune meningoencephalitis, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease, neuro-Behçet syndrome, Susac syndrome, and sarcoidosis), primary and secondary tumors (meningioma, diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumor, melanocytic tumors, and lymphoma), tumorlike diseases (histiocytosis and immunoglobulin G4-related diseases), medication-induced diseases (immune-related adverse effects and posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome), and other conditions (spontaneous intracranial hypotension, amyloidosis, and moyamoya disease).

Characterized by ventricular and vascular stiffness, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) has led to high morbidity and mortality. As azilsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker with the highest myocardial and vascular affinities, azilsartan may improve the left ventricular (LV) diastolic function in patients with hypertension and either HFpEF or HF with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF) more than candesartan. In this randomized, open-label trial, we randomly assigned 193 hypertensive patients with HF and LV ejection fraction ≥ 45% to 20 mg of azilsartan (n = 95) or 8 mg of candesartan (n = 98), once daily for 48 weeks.

Background: This study is part of the SNPs in Nivolumab PD-1 inhibitor for RCC (SNiP-RCC). Here we aimed to reveal clinical factors for tumor response, progression, and survival in nivolumab for advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in Japanese patients.
Methods: We included patients from 23 institutions in Japan.

Background: Previous studies reported that the experience of maltreatment in childhood reduces subjective well-being in adulthood and that neuroticism is negatively associated with subjective well-being. However, the interrelationship between childhood maltreatment, adult life events, neuroticism, and subjective well-being has not been analyzed to date.
Methods: A total of 404 adult volunteers provided responses to the following questionnaires: 1) Childhood Abuse and Trauma Scale, 2) Life Experiences Survey, 3) Neuroticism Subscale of the Shortened Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised, and 4) Subjective Well-Being Inventory.

Objective: This study aims at establishing benchmark values for best achievable outcomes following open major anatomic hepatectomy for liver tumors of all dignities.
Background: Outcomes after open major hepatectomies vary widely lacking reference values for comparisons among centers, indications, types of resections, and minimally invasive procedures.
Methods: A standard benchmark methodology was used covering consecutive patients, who underwent open major anatomic hepatectomy from 44 high-volume liver centers from 5 continents over a 5-year period (2016-2020).

Objective: To determine the impact of postoperative complications on long-term survival outcomes in patients with bladder cancer undergoing radical cystectomy.
Methods: This retrospective multi-institutional study included 766 bladder cancer patients who underwent radical cystectomy between 2011 and 2017. Patient characteristics, perioperative outcomes, all complications within 90 days after surgery and survival outcomes were collected.

Background: Lenvatinib is widely used to treat unresectable and advanced thyroid carcinomas. We aimed to determine whether F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) performed 1 week after lenvatinib treatment initiation could predict treatment outcomes.
Results: This was a prospective, nonrandomised, multicentre study.

Aim: Continued antipsychotic treatment is the key to preventing relapse. Maintenance antipsychotic monotherapy and optimal dose use are recommended for individuals with stable schizophrenia because of their undesirable effects. Decision aids (DAs) are clinical conversation tools that facilitate shared decision-making (SDM) between patients and health-care providers.

Sialylation is a terminal glycosylated modification of glycoproteins that regulates critical biological events such as cell adhesion and immune response. Our previous study showed that integrin α3β1 plays a crucial role in regulating the sialylation of N-glycans. However, the underlying mechanism for the regulation remains unclear.

Objectives: Current prognostic models for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) are likely inaccurate due to recent treatment advances and improved survival outcomes. The JEWEL study used a data set from patients who received tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) to explore the prognostic impact of the tumor immune environment in the absence of immune checkpoint inhibitor intervention.
Methods: The primary analysis population comprised 569 of the 770 Japanese patients enrolled in the ARCHERY study who received first-line TKIs.

Lithium is regarded as the first-line treatment for bipolar disorder (BD), a severe and disabling mental health disorder that affects about 1% of the population worldwide. Nevertheless, lithium is not consistently effective, with only 30% of patients showing a favorable response to treatment. To provide personalized treatment options for bipolar patients, it is essential to identify prediction biomarkers such as polygenic scores.

Introduction: Although systemic therapy, including multi-kinase inhibitors and cytotoxic chemotherapy, is an option for recurrent or metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma of the head and neck (HNACC), it is not proven whether these therapies can prolong overall survival (OS). The present study investigated the impact of cytotoxic chemotherapy on survival outcomes compared with observation without chemotherapy.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of the patients diagnosed with recurrent or metastatic HNACC.
