Background: Wnt5a is the key ligand of the noncanonical Wnt pathway, and receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 2 (ROR2) is a receptor associated with Wnt5a. The association between the noncanonical Wnt-signaling pathway and carcinogenesis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is unclear. This study investigated the significance of ROR2 expression in HCC.

Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation for Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia with a Busulfan, Fludarabine, and Melphalan Regimen: JPLSG JMML-11.

Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML), which is classified as a myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm, is a rare hematologic malignancy of childhood. Most patients with JMML require allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) as a curative therapy. A Japanese retrospective analysis demonstrated favorable outcomes for a busulfan (BU) + fludarabine (FLU) + melphalan (MEL) regimen, with an overall survival (OS) of 72% and an event-free survival (EFS) of 53%.

Bone Echinococcosis Mimicking Malignancy on FDG PET.

MRI revealed a thoracic vertebrae lesion in a 40-year-old woman with back pain. She was referred to our institution; MRI demonstrated a mass from the second to the fifth thoracic vertebra and compression fractures. CT revealed a splenic mass, multiple pulmonary nodules, and low-density masses in the liver.

Neuroprotective effects of a hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier (stroma-free hemoglobin nanoparticle) on ischemia reperfusion injury.

The application of hemoglobin (Hb)-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) to the treatment of cerebral ischemia has been investigated. A cluster of 1 Hb and 3 human serum albumins (Hb-HSA) was found to exert neuroprotective effects on ischemia/reperfusion injury. Stroma-free hemoglobin nanoparticles (SFHbNP), a subsequently developed HBOC consisting of a spherical polymerized stroma-free Hb core with a HSA shell, contains the natural antioxidant enzyme catalase and, thus, is expected to exert additive effects.

Squamous cell carcinoma of the eyelid.

Eyelid squamous cell carcinoma is a major type of rare eyelid cancer, together with basal cell carcinoma and sebaceous gland carcinoma. It is a painless disease that progresses slowly and is often detected by the appearance of nodules or plaques. Risk factors include exposure to ultraviolet light, fair skin, radiation and human papillomavirus infection.

Slow-growing WNT medulloblastoma with atypical magnetic resonance imaging findings: illustrative case.

Background: Medulloblastomas, with four molecular subgroups, are generally rapid-growing tumors with significant contrast enhancement and well-defined margins. However, each subgroup's clinical features, including disease time course and imaging characteristics, are not well defined.

Observations: The authors describe the case of a 15-year-old female who presented with a 7-month history of impaired left-hand movement and was found to have a lesion on the dorsal side of the fourth ventricle.

MAST4 promotes primary ciliary resorption through phosphorylation of Tctex-1.

The primary cilium undergoes cell cycle-dependent assembly and disassembly. Dysregulated ciliary dynamics are associated with several pathological conditions called ciliopathies. Previous studies showed that the localization of phosphorylated Tctex-1 at Thr94 (T94) at the ciliary base critically regulates ciliary resorption by accelerating actin remodeling and ciliary pocket membrane endocytosis.

Circadian rhythms and sleep-wake cycles were measured in volunteers staying singly in temporal isolation unit where they were exposed to artificial short and long light-dark (LD) cycles for 7 days. The long day consisted of 16-h light and 8-h dark (LD 16:8) and the short day consisted of 8-h light and 16-h dark (LD 8:16). During the light period, bright light of approximately 5,000 lux was given from the ceiling and during the dark period there was no illumination.

Human papillomavirus vaccine impact on invasive cervical cancer in Japan: Preliminary results from cancer statistics and the MINT study.

The first prophylactic vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 and HPV18 was licensed in Japan in 2009. HPV vaccine effectiveness against high-grade cervical lesions has been demonstrated among young Japanese women, but evidence of its effects on invasive cervical cancer (ICC) is lacking. Using data from two different cancer registries, we compared recent trends of new ICC cases by age group using Poisson regression analysis.

This retrospective study aimed to investigate the characteristics of patients with cervical spinal cord injuries (CSCI) with diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH). We included 153 consecutive patients with CSCI who underwent posterior decompression and fusion surgery. The patients were divided into two groups based on the presence of DISH.

Less data are available regarding the impact of cardiac power output on exercise capacity or clinical outcome in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). The study enrolled 280 consecutive patients with CHF referred for cardiopulmonary exercise testing and right-sided heart catheterization between 2013 and 2018. The primary outcome was composite of heart failure hospitalization or death.

Possible Delayed Foreign Body Reactions against Titanium Clips and Coating Materials after Unruptured Cerebral Aneurysm Surgery.

Delayed foreign body reactions to either or both clipping and coating materials have been reported in several small series; however, studies in the titanium clip era are scarce. This study aims to survey the contemporary status of such reactions to titanium clips and coating materials. Among patients who received a total of 2327 unruptured cerebral aneurysmal surgeries, 12 developed delayed intraparenchymal reactions during outpatient magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) follow-up.

T1a Renal Cell Carcinoma With Metastasis: Japanese Society of Renal Cancer Retrospective Multi-institute Results.

Background/aim: Small renal cell carcinomas (sRCC) have drastically increased in recent years. Considering that sRCC have heterogeneous biology, it would be clinically relevant if specific clinical or pathological parameters could predict sRCC metastasis. In the present study, we aimed to assess the clinicopathological factors of pathologic T1a RCC (pT1a RCC) with or without metastasis to explore factors predicting metastasis.

Surgical repair of a residual lesion of mixed-type total anomalous pulmonary venous connection using a vertical vein as a free graft: a case report.

Background: Mixed-type total anomalous pulmonary venous connection is a rare condition in which the pulmonary veins possess multiple drainage sites. In the treatment of multiple lesions, it is sometimes necessary to treat only the main lesion first and repair additional residual lesions during follow-up.

Case Presentation: We report a case of additional repair of a remaining type Ia lesion in a 19-year-old woman with mixed-type total anomalous pulmonary venous connection who had previously been treated for a type IIa lesion alone.

Japanese Society of Anxiety and Related Disorders/Japanese Society of Neuropsychopharmacology: Clinical practice guideline for social anxiety disorder (2021).

The development of clinical practice guidelines for social anxiety disorder began in March 2018 when the Joint Clinical Practice Guideline Development Committee for Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders was formed by the Japanese Society of Anxiety and Related Disorders and Japanese Society of Neuropsychopharmacology to jointly develop guidelines for anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Based on the universal concept of evidence-based medicine, three clinical questions (CQs) about pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy were developed for clinical guidelines for social anxiety disorder, panic disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder in accordance with the Minds "Manual for Guidelines Development 2017 by the Japan Council for Quality Health Care: CQ1-"What is the recommended pharmacotherapy for social anxiety disorder in adults?"; CQ2-"What is the recommended psychotherapy (psychological intervention) for social anxiety disorder in adults?"; and CQ3-"What are the recommendations regarding monotherapy and combination therapy for social anxiety disorder in adults in terms of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy (psychological interventions)?" Summarized recommendations for social anxiety disorder in adults are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor for CQ1, cognitive behavioral therapy for CQ2, and there are no recommendations regarding monotherapy and combination therapy for CQ3. These were answered by considering the balance between benefits and harms based on systematic reviews of each.

Factors associated with household transmission of SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant to health care workers: A retrospective cohort study.

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors for household transmission of the omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2.

Background: The household infection rate has been reported to be higher for the omicron variant than for non-omicron variants of SARS-CoV-2. Determination of the risk factors for household transmission of the omicron variant is therefore important.

Social behaviors, how individuals act cooperatively and competitively with conspecifics, are widely seen across species. Rodents display various social behaviors, and many different behavioral paradigms have been used for investigating their neural circuit bases. Social behavior is highly vulnerable to brain network dysfunction caused by neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions such as autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).

Androgen receptor binding sites enabling genetic prediction of mortality due to prostate cancer in cancer-free subjects.

Prostate cancer (PrCa) is the second most common cancer worldwide in males. While strongly warranted, the prediction of mortality risk due to PrCa, especially before its development, is challenging. Here, we address this issue by maximizing the statistical power of genetic data with multi-ancestry meta-analysis and focusing on binding sites of the androgen receptor (AR), which has a critical role in PrCa.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major cause of microvascular dysfunction. However, its effect on blood flow patterns during ischemic demand has not been adequately elucidated. In this study, we investigated the hypothesis that microvascular dysfunction in patients with T2DM manifests as brachial reactive hyperemia (BRH), defined as the ratio of peak blood flow velocities in a brachial artery before and after forearm cuff occlusion.
