Simultaneous strain measurement with determination of a zero strain reference for the medial and lateral ligaments of the ankle.

The strain changes of the central part of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), the posterior talofibular ligament (PTFL), the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL), and the tibiocalcaneal ligament (TCL) were measured simultaneously for a full range of ankle motion. Twelve fresh frozen amputated ankles were used. To measure the strain changes of the ligaments, a Galium-Indium-filled silastic strain transducer was implanted in the center of each ligament.

[The outline of the general rule for clinical and pathological record of lung cancer].

In 1999, the Japan Lung Cancer Society published the fifth Japanese edition of the General Rule for Clinical and Pathological Record of Lung Cancer. [Epidemiology of virus-related nervous infections in Japan].

To evaluate the annual incidence of viral CNS infections in Japan, a questionnaire was delivered to the related departments of hospitals and an answer was given from 377 departments (30.2%). Etiological analysis of patients with viral meningoencephalitis indicates that the most (64%) among those with encephalitis diagnosed, is herpes simplex virus (HSV) encephalitis, and the most (89%) among those with viral meningitis diagnosed is non-polio enterovirus (EV) meningitis, followed by mumps virus (MV) meningitis (9%).

[A case of adrenal myelolipoma with colonic cancer and gallstones].

A 47-year-old female, referred to Kushiro Rohsai Hospital because of upper abdominal pain on January 10, 1986, was found to have a gallbladder stone on X-ray examination of her abdomen. On admission, the occult blood found in her stool was strongly positive and a barium enema and a colonoscopy showed an elevated lesion in the caecum. Subsequently, a diagnosis of a colonic cancer was made after a biopsy.

[Light and electron microscopic study of orbital cavernous hemangioma].

We examined the specimens of tumors from three patients with orbital cavernous hemangioma by light and electron microscopy. The tumors mostly consisted of many vessels of various sizes. A part of the tumor tissues showed irregular vascular inner spaces like sinusoids.

[Clinical evaluation of CA-50 in cases with colorectal cancer].

Serum CA-50 has been evaluated in 67 healthy donors and in 46 patients with a colorectal cancer by an enzyme immunoassay (EIA Kit, Mitsui pharmaceuticals, Inc.). The mean value of the healthy donors (n = 67) was 10.

[A case of AFP-producing gastric cancer accompanied with testicular tumor].

A case of an AFP-producing gastric cancer accompanied with non-epithelial tumor is reported. A 63-year-old man, complaining of an epigastric hunger pain, was admitted to our hospital. Testing revealed that he had an extremely high level serum AFP (12,400 ng/ml) with no abnormality of liver function.

[Clinical evaluation of a combination assay of CEA, CA-19-9 and TPA in patients with colorectal cancer].

The effectiveness of serum CEA (56 cases), CA-19-9 (53 cases) and TPA (48 cases) in patients with colorectal cancer has been evaluated. The preoperative sensitivity and specificity of CEA and CA 19-9 were found to be almost the same in level but the level of TPA was low. In 20 cases recurrent, the sensitivity of the marker was 66.

[An autopsy case of rest stomach cancer accompanied by tongue cancer].

A case of rest stomach cancer, accompanied by tongue cancer, in a 57-year-old man is reported. The patient underwent a stomach resection 11 years earlier because of a discovered cancer. Most cases of rest stomach cancer appear after 10 years in cases of a stomach resection because of a stomach cancer.

[A rare autopsy involving primary squamous cell carcinoma of the breast showing a very rapid and aggressive clinical course].

A rare autopsy case of a primary squamous cell carcinoma of the breast is reported. A 74-year-old Japanese woman, suffering from a left axillary nodule, underwent a radical mastectomy in May, 1986. The histopathological diagnosis had revealed a primary squamous cell carcinoma of the breast with a small area that indicated a solid tubular carcinoma.

[Migration of nevus cells into the lymph nodes].

We report on an extremely rare case in which clusters of nevus cells have been found not only in the capsule but also in the central sinus of the lymph nodes. In a 52-year-old female who underwent a left radical mastectomy because of breast cancer, some resected lymph nodes were found to contain clusters of nevus cells. The following mechanisms to explain this phenomenon are possible.
