Efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy using self-check sheet for patients with nocturia in real-world clinical practice.

Objectives: We previously demonstrated the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) using a self-check sheet for patients with nocturia in a randomized controlled study. Additionally, we investigated the efficacy of the intervention in real-world clinical practice.

Methods: Two hundred forty-three outpatients with complaint of nocturia who practiced CBT for 4 weeks using a self-check sheet were included in this trial, which took place from April 2021 to March 2022 in 20 institutions.

Intracholecystic papillary neoplasm of the gallbladder diagnosed during follow-up of Menetrier's disease: A case report.

Intracholecystic papillary neoplasm of the gallbladder (ICPN) is a type of intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct that occurs in the gallbladder, and is a relatively newer concept. Therefore, there are few reports regarding ICPN. Menetrier's disease is a rare disease characterized by giant hypertrophy of the gastric folds that causes protein-losing gastroenteropathy (PLG).

Therapeutic options to reduce intravesical recurrence in newly diagnosed Ta high-grade bladder cancer according to risk stratification: A multicenter retrospective study.

Objectives: To evaluate the risk factors for intravesical recurrence in patients with newly diagnosed Ta high-grade non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer and the optimal management to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated Ta high-grade bladder cancer in patients who were newly diagnosed by transurethral resection from January 2007 through October 2018. Using multivariate analyses, we evaluated the risk factors and therapeutic options affecting intravesical recurrence and stratified the patients according to the risk numbers.

Bladder metastasis from lung adenocarcinoma is extremely rare. Unlike primary bladder urothelial tumors, the initial symptoms of this disease vary, and include pelvic pain, dysuria, and hematuria. There are few reports on cases without microscopic hematuria.

Ureteral calculi secondary to a gradually migrated acupuncture needle.

We herein presented a case of calculi secondary to a migrated acupuncture needle. A 74-year-old woman with a history of acupuncture therapy for lumbago was referred to our hospital for treatment of ureteral and renal pelvic calculi. Abdominal multi-detector computed tomography scans showed ipsilateral hydronephrosis and two calculi secondary to a migrated acupuncture needle.

Clinical Risk Factors and Prognostic Impact of Osteoporosis in Patients With Chronic Heart Failure.

Background: The clinical significance of osteoporosis in chronic heart failure (CHF) remains unclear.

Methods and results: A total of 303 CHF patients (75 years, [interquartile range (IQR) 66-82 years]; 41% female) were retrospectively examined. Bone mineral densities (BMDs) at the lumbar spine, femoral neck, and total femur were measured by using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), and osteoporosis was diagnosed when the BMD at any of the 3 sites was <70% of the Young Adult Mean percentage (%YAM).

Incidence and risk factors of postoperative delirium in elderly patients undergoing urological surgery: A multi-institutional prospective study.

Objectives: To investigate the incidence and risk factors of postoperative delirium among patients aged ≥65 years undergoing elective urological surgery.

Methods: From April 2015 through December 2016, 1023 consecutive patients aged ≥65 years who received transurethral, laparoscopic (with or without robot assistance) or open surgery in eight institutions were enrolled in this prospective observational study. Their preoperative cognitive status was assessed with the Hasegawa Dementia Scale-Revised score.

[Locally Advanced Gastric Cancer Responding to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy with Ramucirumab plus Paclitaxel-Case Report].

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC)is a promising approach for the improvement of gastric cancer treatment outcome. Progressive Mobilization Program for Patients With Acute Heart Failure Reduces Hospital Stay and Improves Clinical Outcome.

Early ambulation has been shown to be associated with shorter hospital stay and better clinical outcomes in patients with acute heart failure (HF). Early mobilization program in combination with structured exercise training is recommended, but has yet to be developed and implemented in HF. We developed a progressive mobilization program for HF patients that classifies the mobilization process into 7 stages based on disease condition and physical function.

Rare case of idiopathic sclerosing cholangitis, which was difficult to distinguish from cholangiocarcinoma: A case report.

It is often difficult to correctly diagnose patients who present with dilation of the bile duct. Cholangiocarcinoma, primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and immunoglobulin (Ig)G4-related sclerosing cholangitis must be considered as potential diagnoses for these cases. The current study presents a 73-year-old female patient who presented with a high fever and abdominal pain.

Upper tract urothelial carcinoma following intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin therapy for nonmuscle-invasive bladder cancer: Results from a multi-institutional retrospective study.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to clarify the prognostic indicators for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) following intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy for nonmuscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC).

Methods: Data from 402 patients who received intravesical BCG therapy between January 1990 and November 2011 were collected from 10 institutes. The median follow-up interval from transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT) followed by BCG treatment was 50.

L-Carnitine supplementation reduces the general fatigue of cancer patients during chemotherapy.

L-Carnitine (LC) plays an important role in the metabolism of fatty acids, and LC deficiency is associated with a feeling of weakness or general fatigue. Cancer patients receiving chemotherapy often develop LC deficiency, which is considered to be a factor contributing to general fatigue. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of LC supplementation as a treatment for general fatigue in cancer patients during chemotherapy.

Complications within 90 days after radical cystectomy for bladder cancer: results of a multicenter prospective study in Japan.

Purpose: We prospectively evaluated the 90-day postoperative mortality and morbidity of open radical cystectomy by using a standardized reporting methodology. Additionally, we assessed the preoperative characteristics to determine risk factors for major complications.

Methods: This multicenter prospective study included 185 consecutive patients undergoing open radical cystectomy from October 2010 through March 2014.

[A Case of Biopsy Confirmed Unresectable Retroperitoneal Seminoma Successfully Treated with Chemotherapy].

We herein report a case of a retroperitoneal tumor of unknown origin that was diagnosed as a seminoma after tumor biopsy and was successfully treated with chemotherapy containing bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin(BEP). A 47-year old man visited our hospital with left abdominal pain. An endoscopic examination revealed an ulcer lesion on the third part of the duodenum.

Long-term survival and prognosis associated with conversion surgery in patients with metastatic gastric cancer.

In gastric cancer, primary systemic chemotherapy is the standard approach for the management of patients with initially unresectable metastasis, and it occasionally leads to a reduction in the size of the lesion, which facilitates surgical resection. Three-year outcome analysis of alpha 1-blocker naftopidil for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia in a prospective multicenter study in Japan.

Purpose: Our aim was to prospectively analyze the 3-year outcomes of naftopidil treatment for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), including those who dropped out during follow-up and had retreatment for BPH after termination of the drug within 3 years.

Patients And Methods: Naftopidil, 50 mg/d or 75 mg/d, was given to 117 patients having BPH aged 50 years and older who had international prostate symptom scores (IPSS) ≥8. They were prospectively followed for 3 years with periodic evaluation.

Efficacy and safety of docetaxel and prednisolone for castration-resistant prostate cancer: a multi-institutional retrospective study in Japan.

Objective: Although some new drugs for castration-resistant prostate cancer are available, docetaxel still plays an important role in castration-resistant prostate cancer treatment. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of docetaxel and prednisolone in patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of castration-resistant prostate cancer patients who received docetaxel and prednisolone at 14 hospitals in the Sapporo Medical University Urologic Oncology Consortium from August 2004 to December 2011.

Accurate diagnosis of axillary lymph node metastasis using contrast-enhanced ultrasonography with Sonazoid.

Axillary lymph node enlargement following sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is often difficult to accurately diagnose. In keeping with the characteristically tortuous and aberrant pattern of tumor neovasculature, metastatic lymph nodes exhibit peripheral and mixed vascularity, resulting in a microvasculature that is often difficult to visualize. Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) with Sonazoid, a new generation contrast agent for ultrasonography, allows for the visualization of lymph node microvessels and may enable a more accurate evaluation of lymph node metastasis.

Importance of luminal membrane mesothelin expression in intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms.

The present study demonstrated that luminal membrane mesothelin expression is a reliable prognostic factor in gastric cancer. Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) often exhibit a spectrum of dysplasia, ranging between adenoma and carcinoma. Therefore, an immunohistochemical analysis of mesothelin expression in IPMN was performed in the present study, focusing on the localization of mesothelin.
