Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The Zhenbao pill (ZBP) is composed of 29 traditional Chinese medicines and has been proven to exhibit a valid therapeutic effect in nervous system diseases, such as stroke and hemiplegia sequelae.
Aim Of The Study: Whether ZBP has a protective effect on vascular endothelial cells remains unknown. In this study, we established hydrogen peroxide (HO)-induced oxidative injury in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) as an in vitro model to investigate the pharmacological effects of ZBP.

Objective: Studies have shown that metabolic abnormalities influence the immune system. Because the prevalence of metabolic and autoimmune thyroid diseases has increased synchronously, the correlation between them was worth exploring. The study objective was to investigate the relationship between metabolic disorders and thyroid auto-antibodies in euthyroid subjects.

Background: Although aging increases susceptibility to acute kidney injury (AKI), whether the AKI risk and the association between AKI and adverse outcomes are age-dependent remain unclear in older adults. The current study aimed to identify whether AKI risk was age-dependent in older adults and to investigate whether the association between AKI and mortality increased with increasing age.
Methods: Medical records from 47,012 adult hospital admissions, including 30,194 older adults aged 60 or older, in two tertiary general hospitals were studied retrospectively.

Malnutrition in early life may permanently change the structure and function of the body, which lead to a number of diseases in adulthood. The effect of famine exposure during the early life on thyroid function and disorders remains unclear. This study investigated the association between exposure to the Great Chinese Famine (1959-1961) in early life and thyroid function and disorders in adulthood.

Subclinical hypothyroidism is diagnosed based on serum thyrotropin (TSH) reference intervals, which in turn are affected by many factors. Data were acquired from a Chinese nationally representative cross-sectional study of 78,470 participants (TIDE study). The total study population were participants from the TIDE program, and the reference population was a subset of the total population defined by the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB) guidelines.

Background: Hot flashes (HF) caused by low estrogen in menopause result from changes in thermoregulatory processes in the hypothalamic preoptic area (POA). In the POA, transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) participates in heat dissipation processes. Studies suggest that TRPV1 expression may be regulated by norepinephrine (NE)-activated α2-adrenergic receptors (α2-ADR) in the dorsal root ganglia.

The expressions of antibodies against thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin (TgAb) are very common in the sera of patients with autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITD). The relationship between thyroid autoantibodies and the occurrence of glucose and lipid metabolic disorders remains unclear. This study was performed to investigate the correlation between the presence of serum TPOAb/TgAb and those metabolic disorders in euthyroid general population.

Iodine is important in both thyroid function and human metabolism. Studies have explored the effect of iodine on metabolic disorders through thyroid function. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between iodine status and metabolic disorders, such as metabolic syndrome (MetS), hypertension, impaired glucose metabolism, central obesity, and dyslipidemia.

Background And Aims: Iodine is one of the most important trace elements in the human body. It is not only the main component of thyroid hormones but also has extrathyroid biological functions. To date, there have been no large-scale epidemiological studies on the relationship between hyperuricemia and iodine intake, although both are closely related to health.

Mandatory universal salt iodization (USI) has been implemented in China for 20 years. Although iodine deficiency disorders are effectively controlled, the risk of excess iodine have been debated. A nationally representative cross-sectional study with 78,470 enrolled participants, aged 18 years or older, from all 31 provincial regions of mainland China was performed.

Background: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is the second most common cause of inflammatory arthritis worldwide affecting the axial skeleton. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP3) in the development of AS has few been investigated in Chinese population.
Methods: A total of 362 patients with AS and 362 healthy controls were enrolled in the study.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess the association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IL1R1 with the risk of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) in the Han population in northwest China. MATERIAL AND METHODS To estimate the association of IL1R1 polymorphisms with LDH risk, Agena MassARRAY was used to determine the genotypes of 498 LDH patients and 463 controls. The association between IL1R1 variants and LDH risk was examined by logistic regression analysis with adjustments for age and gender.

Objective: This study explored women's preference for cesarean section (CS) and the preference for cesarean sections' influencing factors, particularly nonmedical factors.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in four tertiary hospitals in Hohhot. We recruited 1,169 pregnant women at ≥ 28 gestational weeks and classified subjects into three groups by delivery mode preference: vaginal birth (VB), CS, and "no clear preference".
Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a low back pain disorder and associated with several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). However, the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and BDNFOS gene in LDH susceptibility remains unknown. To examine whether the variants contribute to LDH, 7 SNPs were genotyped in 380 patients and 692 healthy controls among Han Chinese population.
