Introduction: Women with HIV (WHIV) have higher risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes, particularly in the absence of antiretroviral treatment(ART), and timing of ART may impact risk.

Methods: In IMPAACT 2010 (VESTED), 643 pregnant WHIV in 9 countries were randomized 1:1:1 to initiate ART: dolutegravir (DTG)+emtricitabine(FTC)/tenofovir alafenamide(TAF); DTG+FTC/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) or efavirenz (EFV)/FTC/TDF. We describe adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with a subsequent pregnancy during 50 weeks of postpartum follow-up: spontaneous abortion (<20 weeks), stillbirth (≥20 weeks), preterm delivery (<37 weeks) and small-for-gestational-age (SGA).

Article Synopsis
  • Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer, and managing unresectable metastatic cases, especially those with MSS and BRAF V600E mutation, poses significant challenges for treatment.
  • Two case reports illustrate the effectiveness of an alternating chemotherapy regimen (irinotecan and oxaliplatin along with capecitabine and bevacizumab) in two patients with MSS, BRAF V600E-mutated stage IV metastatic CRC, demonstrating a partial response and dropping carcinoembryonic antigen levels.
  • The study suggests that this alternating regimen offers a promising treatment strategy with improved progression-free survival compared to standard first-line therapies, making it a potential first-line option for patients with this specific type of colorectal cancer.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) has a median survival of <2 years. Pexidartinib (PLX3397) is a small-molecule inhibitor of CSF1R, KIT, and oncogenic FTL3, which are implicated in GBM treatment resistance. Results from glioma models indicate that combining radiation therapy (RT) and pexidartinib reduces radiation resistance.

Evidence for spinal disinhibition as a pain-generating mechanism in fibromyalgia syndrome.

Pain Rep

February 2025

Pain Research Institute, Institute of Life Course and Medical Sciences, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Introduction: Pain phenomenology in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) shows considerable overlap with neuropathic pain. Altered neural processing leading to symptoms of neuropathic pain can occur at the level of the spinal cord, and 1 potential mechanism is spinal disinhibition. A biomarker of spinal disinhibition is impaired H-reflex rate-dependent depression (HRDD).

Background: Use of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT-2 inhibitors) falls short of their cardiorenal protective benefits. Patient and provider-level barriers hinder the adoption of these life-saving medications. Innovative practices to provide primary care providers (PCPs) with added clinical-decision support via a dedicated remote interdisciplinary diabetes rounds (IDRs) team could promote SGLT-2 inhibitor selection.
