This study aims to explore the feasibility of replacing traditional components, such as Portland cement, river sand and tap water with sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA), polypropylene (PP) fibers, and sea sand-seawater (SSSW) in lightweight foamed concrete (LWFC) production. SCBA was used in the range from 0 to 15% as cement replacement, and PP fibers were used with dosage from 0% to 1% by volume of LWFC. Meanwhile, SSSW was used to completely replace river sand and tap water.

Biodiesel is a highly promising and viable alternative to fossil-based diesel that also addresses the urgent need for effective waste management. It can be synthesized by the chemical modification of triglycerides sourced from vegetable origin, animal fat, or algal oil. The transesterification reaction is the preferred method of producing biodiesel.

This paper studies the security and reliability of the power splitting (PS)-based relaying in the Internet of Things (IoT) networks with the help of a jammer. Based on the considered system model, we derive outage probability (OP) and intercept probability (IP) under two distinguished schemes, namely, the static PS relaying (SPSR) scheme and the dynamic PS relaying (DPSR) scheme. More precisely, the PS ratio of the former is a constant number, while the latter is optimally adjusted in order to minimize the OP and counts only on the channel gain of the second hop.

Termite mushrooms are edible fungi that provide significant economic, nutritional, and medicinal value. However, identifying these mushroom species based on morphology and traditional knowledge is ineffective due to their short development time and seasonal nature. This study proposes a novel method for classifying termite mushroom species.

The growing concern over the presence of pollutants like Bisphenol A (BPA) in water sources has led to the growth of novel treatment technologies for its removal. This research work investigates the development of a novel biochar-metal oxide nanocomposite derived from tannery sludge and Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles for the photodegradation of BPA. The biochar was obtained by pyrolysis process, followed by impregnation of ZnO nanoparticles using a hydrothermal technique.

This paper investigates the security-reliability of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT)-assisted amplify-and-forward (AF) full-duplex (FD) relay networks. In practice, an AF-FD relay harvests energy from the source (S) using the power-splitting (PS) protocol. We propose an analysis of the related reliability and security by deriving closed-form formulas for outage probability (OP) and intercept probability (IP).

Internet of Things (IoT) systems cooperative with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been put into use for more than ten years, from transportation to military surveillance, and they have been shown to be worthy of inclusion in the next wireless protocols. Therefore, this paper studies user clustering and the fixed power allocation approach by placing multi-antenna UAV-mounted relays for extended coverage areas and achieving improved performance for IoT devices. In particular, the system enables UAV-mounted relays with multiple antennas together with non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to provide a potential way to enhance transmission reliability.

The biorefining process of lignocellulosic biomass has recently emerged as one of the most profitable biofuel production options. However, pretreatment is required to improve the recalcitrant lignocellulose's enzymatic conversion efficiency. Among biomass pretreatment methods, the steam explosion is an eco-friendly, inexpensive, and effective approach to pretreating biomass, significantly promoting biofuel production efficiency and yield.

Land surface temperature (LST) is an important variable in urban microclimate research. At the end of 2019, the emergence of Covid-19 pandemic has changed the world in a manner that forced many countries to impose restrictions in human activities. As a measure to prevent the expansion of Covid-19 infections, most of the major cities have entered a prolonged lockdown period and reduction in human activities between the early 2020 and the late 2021.

There have been a prolonged lockdown period and reduction in human activities in most of the major cities in the world during the Covid-19 pandemic period between the early 2020 and the late 2021. Such a reduction in human activities was believed to have influenced pollution levels and land surface temperatures (LST) in urban areas. This paper describes the variations in LSTs before, during and after the Covid-19 lockdown in Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam, which is the economic hub of the country.

Environmental effects of heavy metal pollution are considered as a widespread problem throughout the world, as it jeopardizes human health and also reduces the sustainability of a cleaner environment. Removal of such noxious pollutants from wastewater is pivotal because it provides a propitious solution for a cleaner environment and water scarcity. Adsorption treatment plays a significant role in water remediation due to its potent treatment and low cost of adsorbents.

Low-lying coastal environments are highly dynamic and sensitive to natural as well as anthropogenic perturbations. Climate change, sea level rise, storms and tsunamis are the natural phenomena that affect the deltaic coasts in Southeast Asia in general and Vietnam in particular. The effects of these phenomena can be exacerbated by human activities such as mangrove deforestation, aquaculture and infrastructure development.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a viable and cost-effective method for converting organic waste into usable renewable energy. The efficiency of organic waste digestion, nonetheless, is limited due to inhibition and instability. Accordingly, biochar is an effective method for improving the efficiency of AD by adsorbing inhibitors, promoting biogas generation and methane concentration, maintaining process stability, colonizing microorganisms selectively, and mitigating the inhibition of volatile fatty acids and ammonia.

Every day, a large amount of food waste (FW) is released into the environment, causing financial loss and unpredictable consequences in the world, highlighting the urgency of finding a suitable approach to treating FW. As moisture content makes up 75% of the FW, hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is a beneficial process for the treatment of FW since it does not require extensive drying. Moreover, the process is considered favorable for carbon sequestration to mitigate climate change in comparison with other processes because the majority of the carbon in FW is integrated into hydrochar.

The use of a cheap and effective adsorption approach based on biomass-activated carbon (AC) to remediate heavy metal contamination is clearly desirable for developing countries that are economically disadvantaged yet have abundant biomass. Therefore, this review provides an update of recent works utilizing biomass waste-AC to adsorb commonly-encountered adsorbates like Cr, Pb, Cu, Cd, Hg, and As. Various biomass wastes were employed in synthesizing AC via two-steps processing; oxygen-free carbonization followed by activation.

Although in a critical position in the economy, the paper industry releases a lot of wastewater that requires adequate treatment for sustainable development. This study presents an application of Life cycle assessment (LCA) with the ReCiPe tool on the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of a paper factory in Vietnam to evaluate the environmental effect of the individual techniques in WWTP, especially the internal circulation (IC) reactor, a pioneer and practical anaerobic technology. Both Midpoint and Endpoint categories results demonstrated that chemical use and electricity consumption mainly contributed to the environmental impact in the WWTP.

In recent years, lignocellulosic biomass has emerged as one of the most versatile energy sources among the research community for the production of biofuels and value-added chemicals. However, biomass pretreatment plays an important role in reducing the recalcitrant properties of lignocellulose, leading to superior quality of target products in bioenergy production. Among existing pretreatment techniques, liquid hot water (LHW) pretreatment has several outstanding advantages compared to others including minimum formation of monomeric sugars, significant removal of hemicellulose, and positive environmental impacts; however, several constraints of LHW pretreatment should be clarified.

Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is lauded for its potentials to solve both energy crisis and environmental pollution. Technologically, it offers the capability to harness electricity from the chemical energy stored in the organic substrate with no intermediate steps, thereby minimizes the entropic loss due to the inter-conversion of energy. The sciences underneath such MFCs include the electron and proton generation from the metabolic decomposition of the substrate by microbes at the anode, followed by the shuttling of these charges to cathode for electricity generation.
