Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the impact of religiosity on mental health issues like depression and happiness among Vietnamese believers, highlighting a gap in existing research on this topic.
  • Conducted with 374 participants using PLS-SEM methodology, the findings reveal that intrinsic religiosity positively influences gratitude and the depression-happiness scale, with age moderating some of these effects.
  • Gratitude is identified as a key mediating factor, suggesting that it plays an essential role in understanding how religiosity affects mental well-being among religious individuals in Vietnam.

Department of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy, College of Pharmacy, University of Florida, 1225 Center Drive, PO Box 100496, Gainesville, FL, 32611, USA.

Introduction: In administrative data, accurate timing of exposure relative to gestation is critical for determining the effect of potential teratogen exposure on pregnancy outcomes.

Objective: To develop an algorithm for identifying stillbirth episodes in the ICD-9-CM era using national Medicaid claims data (1999-2014).

Methods: Unique stillbirth episodes were identified from clusters of medical claims using a hierarchy that identified the encounter with the highest potential of including the actual stillbirth delivery and that delineated subsequent pregnancy episodes.

Recently, there has been an increasing interest on the sustainability advantage of 3D concrete printing (3DCP), where the original cement-based mixtures used for printing could be replaced or incorporated with environmental-friendly materials. The development in digital modeling and design tools also creates a new realm of form-finding architecture for 3DCP, which is based on topological optimization of volumetric mass and physical performance. This review provides a perspective of using different green cementitious materials, applications of structural optimization, and modularization methods for realizing sustainable construction with additive manufacturing.

Sovereign credit ratings during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Int Rev Financ Anal

November 2021

School of Finance, University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Faculty of Finance and Commerce, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), Viet Nam.

Using 603 sovereign rating actions by the three leading global rating agencies between January 2020 and March 2021, this paper shows that the severity of sovereign ratings actions is not directly affected by the intensity of the COVID-19 health crisis (proxied by case and mortality rates) but through a mechanism of its negative economic repercussions such as the economic outlook of a country and governments' response to the health crisis. Contrary to expectations, credit rating agencies pursued mostly a business-as-usual approach and reviewed sovereign ratings when they were due for regulatory purposes rather than in response to the rapid developments of the pandemic. Despite their limited reaction to the ongoing pandemic, sovereign rating news from S&P and Moody's still conveyed price-relevant information to the bond markets.

Community-acquired pneumonia continues to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Hospital readmissions following community-acquired pneumonia are linked to significant cost of care and medical burdens. This study aimed to determine the incidence and reasons for readmission as well as to assess factors associated with short-term hospital readmission among community-acquired pneumonia patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Prenatal exposure to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with gadolinium-based contrast agents has raised concerns due to possible retention of gadolinium in fetal tissue and links to adverse pregnancy outcomes.
  • This study analyzed over 11 million Medicaid-covered pregnancies from 1999 to 2014 to assess the impact of such MRI exposures on fetal and neonatal death as well as neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admissions.
  • Results showed similar rates of fetal or neonatal deaths (1.4%) in both groups (gadolinium and non-gadolinium MRI), with no significant difference in adjusted risks for death or NICU admission.

Plastic-covered greenhouse (PCG) farming has been practiced worldwide, particularly in highland areas, for planting fruits and garden plants. Highland areas in south-central Vietnam have been witnessing an expansion of PCG farming in recent decades. For sustainable management of plastic-covered greenhouse farming areas, a proper and continuous monitoring of their spatial patterns is necessary.

Origin of the COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2) has been intensely debated in the scientific community since the first infected cases were detected in December 2019. The disease has caused a global pandemic, leading to deaths of thousands of people across the world and thus finding origin of this novel coronavirus is important in responding and controlling the pandemic. Recent research results suggest that bats or pangolins might be the hosts for SARS-CoV-2 based on comparative studies using its genomic sequences.

In this study, the Fe-containing tailings (Fe-TO) ore was reutilized and enriched with FeCl as a heterogeneous catalyst for the Fenton process to degrade the organic dyes from aqueous solution. The determinants of the heterogeneous catalytic Fenton system which included iron modification ratio, solution pH, catalyst dosage, HO dosage and initial concentration of organic dyes were systematically investigated. The modification ratio of 15% (w/w of iron), pH of 3, MFe-TO15 dosage of 0.

This study presents the modification of cassava root husk-derived biochar (CRHB) with ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) for the simultaneous adsorption of As(iii), Cd(ii), Pb(ii) and Cr(vi). By conducting batch-mode experiments, it was concluded that 3% w/w was the best impregnation ratio for the modification of CRHB using ZnO-NPs, and was denoted as CRHB-ZnO3 in this study. The optimal conditions for heavy metal adsorption were obtained at a pH of 6-7, contact time of 60 min, and initial metal concentration of 80 mg L.

Finite element analysis is extensively used in the design of rubber products. Rubber products can suffer from large amounts of distortion under working conditions as they are nonlinearly elastic, isotropic, and incompressible materials. Working conditions can vary over a large distortion range, and relate directly to different distortion modes.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many have seriously worried that the plus burden of seasonal influenza that might create a destructive scenario, resulting in overwhelmed healthcare capacities and onwards loss of life. Many efforts to develop a safe and efficacious vaccine to prevent infection by coronavirus and influenza, highlight the importance of vaccination to combat infectious pathogens. While vaccines are traditionally given as injections into the muscle, microneedle (MN) patches designed to precisely deliver cargos into the cutaneous microenvironment, rich in immune cells, provide a noninvasive and self-applicable vaccination approach, reducing overall costs and improving access to vaccines in places with limited supply.

Neurodegenerative disorders are distinguished by the gradual deterioration of the nervous system's structure and function due to oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, protein misfolding, excitotoxicity, and neuroinflammation. Among these NDs, Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis characterized an increasing dysfunction and loss of neuronal structure leading to neuronal cell death. Although there is currently no drug to totally reverse the effects of NDs, such novel formulations and administration routes are developed for better management and nose-to-brain delivery is one of delivery for treating NDs.

The skin is recognized as a potential target for local and systemic drug delivery and hormone. However, the transdermal route of drug administration seems to be limited by substantial barrier properties of the skin. Recently, delivering hormone via the skin by transdermal patches is a big challenge because of the presence of the stratum corneum that prevents the application of hormone via this route.
