Steel slag is an industrial by product of steel manufacturing processes and has been widely utilized within civil and construction materials for road materials and environmental remediation in countries like Japan, USA, and European Union nations. However, the current utilization of steel slag in Vietnam is very low mainly because of lack of quality control of slag treatment and chances for reuse of treated steel slag. This paper presents the up to date steel slag production status in Vietnam through the extensive survey and sampling at seven large steel factories.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive deterioration of brain function, initially characterized by cognitive deficits, with loss of recent memory and language ability, impairment of orientation, problem solving, and abstract thinking. While existing drug treatments help reduce the symptoms of AD and improve people's quality of life, they neither slow its progression nor cure it. Currently, targeted drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS), for therapy of AD, is confined by the challenges posed by blood-brain interfaces surrounding the CNS, limiting the bioavailability of therapeutics.

Building the first Russian-Vietnamese neural machine translation system, we faced the problem of choosing a translation unit system on which source and target embeddings are based. Available homogeneous translation unit systems with the same translation unit on the source and target sides do not perfectly suit the investigated language pair. To solve the problem, in this paper, we propose a novel heterogeneous translation unit system, considering linguistic characteristics of the synthetic Russian language and the analytic Vietnamese language.

We proposed a simple model for generation of controllable ultraslow optical solitons of a weak probe laser light in a degenerated two-level atomic medium under electromagnetically induced transparency assisted by a magnetic field. It is shown that bright and dark optical solitons can be formed from a probe light with controllable ultraslow group velocities at a few m/s by tuning the strength of a coupling light and/or the magnetic field. In addition to the ultraslow velocity, the advantage of this model is to use a sole laser for delivering both pump and probe lights.

The present study proposes a simple yet effective method of cellulose coating onto chitosan (CS) hydrogel beads and application thereof as drug carriers. The beads were coated with cellulose dissolved in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate, an ionic liquid (IL) via a one-pot one-step process. Water molecules present in the CS beads diffused outward upon contact with the cellulose-IL mixture and acted as an anti-solvent.

The constitutional repeating unit structures of poly(pyromellitic dianhydride-co-4,4'-oxydianiline) or polyamiс acid, butyric acid and complexes between butyric acid and one, two or three units of polyamiс acid were calculated using the density functional theory method (DFT B3LYP) on a 6-31G(d,p) basis with the basis set superposition error (BSSE) correction in the program Gaussian 09. The optimised structures of the template and polyamiс acid allowed to establish intermolecular non-covalent interactions during imprinting and, based on the results, develop a method of polyimide-based molecularly imprinted polymer preparation using butyric acid as template. It was shown that the optimum molar ratio of reagents used for the synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymer is 1:1 (interaction energy ∆E = 43.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex neurodegenerative disease that requires extremely specific biomarkers for its diagnosis. For current diagnostics capable of identifying AD, the development and validation of early stage biomarkers is a top research priority. Body-fluid biomarkers might closely reflect synaptic dysfunction in the brain and, thereby, could contribute to improving diagnostic accuracy and monitoring disease progression, and serve as markers for assessing the response to disease-modifying therapies at early onset.

A new synthesis of 2-aroylbenzothiazoles iodine-promoted domino transformations of anilines, acetophenones, and elemental sulfur was demonstrated. The highlights of this tandem synthesis are (1) easily available anilines and acetophenones as feedstock; (2) transition metal-free conditions; (3) inexpensive, nontoxic, easy handling, and abundant elemental sulfur as a building block. This synthetic strategy would complement the existing methods in the synthesis of this important heterocyclic scaffold.

Recent studies continue to find evidence linking Type 2 diabetes (T2D) with Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Insulin resistance or dysfunction of insulin signaling is a universal feature of T2D, the main culprit for altered glucose metabolism and its interdependence on cell death pathways, forming the basis of linking T2D with AD as it may exacerbate Aβ accumulation, tau hyperphosphorylation and devastates glucose transportation, energy metabolism, hippocampal framework and promulgate inflammatory pathways. The current work demonstrates the basic mechanisms of the insulin resistance mediates dysregulation of bioenergetics and progress to AD as a mechanistic link between diabetes mellitus and AD.
