Objectives: The purpose of this study was to clarify whether occlusal hypofunction and its recovery affect the structure of the periodontal ligament (PDL) and expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in rats.
Materials And Methods: Forty-eight Wistar rats aged 5 weeks were used and randomly divided into three groups: the hypofunctional group (HG), recovery group (RG), and control group (CG). In HG and RG, appliances were attached to the maxillary and mandibular incisors.

Objective: We performed Escherichia coli ampicillin secretion trap (CAST) analysis in prostate cancer (PCa) to identify novel biomarkers. We show here that OPHN1, which encodes oligophrenin-1 protein, is upregulated in PCa. OPHN1 was first determined to be one of the genes associated with X-linked mental retardation; however, neither the gene's function nor the link between its expression and survival of patients has been investigated.

Genotypes are associated with the natural course of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and response to antiviral therapy for HCV. HCV genotype 1b has been the dominant genotype in Japan, where the prevention of HCV transmission through blood transfusion or nosocomial infection has been established since 1990. The distribution of HCV genotype was investigated based on patient's birth year in 5515 HCV-infected Japanese individuals at three institutions from different areas of Japan.

Gastric cancer (GC) develops through deregulation of gene expression and accumulation of epigenetic abnormalities, leading to tumor cell acquisition of malignant features. To explore the effects of qualitative or quantitative changes in walking on motor cortical excitability, a transcranial magnetic stimulation procedure was used to examine the alterations of motor-evoked potential (MEP) amplitude following walking. Eight healthy participants completed a series of two walking tasks on a treadmill at 2 km/h. The ratio of the left stance duration to the right stance duration was 1 : 2 in the asymmetrical walking task and 1 : 1 in the symmetrical walking task.

Background: For several types of cancer, including gastric cancer (GC), tumor cells at the invasive front are considered to have a more aggressive behavior compared with those in the more central region. The aim of the present study was to analyze the expression of MMP-7, laminin γ2 and EGFR in a large number of GCs and to investigate how these expression patterns correlate with clinicopathologic parameters, infiltrative patterns, histology or mucin phenotype.
Methods: We immunohistochemically examined the expression of MMP-7, laminin γ2 and EGFR using a tissue microarray analysis of 790 GCs, and evaluated their clinicopathological significance.

We screened circadian-regulated genes in rat cartilage by using a DNA microarray analysis. In rib growth-plate cartilage, numerous genes showed statistically significant circadian mRNA expression under both 12:12 h light-dark and constant darkness conditions. Type II collagen and aggrecan genes--along with several genes essential for post-translational modifications of collagen and aggrecan, including prolyl 4-hydroxylase 1, lysyl oxidase, lysyl oxidase-like 2 and 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulphate synthase 2--showed the same circadian phase.
