Objectives: To evaluate the safety, efficacy, and patient-reported outcomes of Aquablation therapy using the AQUABEAM Robotic System for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in a Japanese population.
Methods: This post-market use-results survey included 103 Japanese men with BPH who underwent Aquablation across five centers with previously Aquablation naïve physicians. Data were collected at baseline, during the procedure, at discharge, and at 3 and 6 months post-procedure.

Aim: The study investigates end-of-life trajectories, focusing on the degree of oral intake function in older individuals with frailty aged over 90 years.
Methods: This retrospective observational study examined individuals aged 90 years and older who passed away at a long-term chronic care hospital and related facilities in Japan. We assessed their Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) and Function Oral Intake Scale (FOIS), categorizing them into two groups-"preserved CFS" (CFS score ≤7) and "poor CFS" (CFS score ≥8)-considering evaluations conducted 6 months before death.

Experimental and clinical studies have suggested atherosclerotic effects of uric acid (UA) on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Nitroglycerine-induced vasodilation (NID), a control test for flow-mediated vasodilation, can be used as a possible marker of VSMC dysfunction. However, there is little information on the association between UA and NID.

To investigate ciliochoroidal detachment (CCD) frequency and risk factors after performing goniotomy with the Kahook Dual Blade (KDB). The presence of CCD was examined using anterior-segment optical coherence tomography at postoperative day (POD) 1, month 1, and month 2 in 91 eyes of patients who underwent goniotomy with KDB. Intraocular pressure (IOP) was also measured at POD 1, POD 7, month 1 and month 2.

Objectives: This study aimed to elucidate the clinical characteristics and predictors of long-term postoperative urinary incontinence (PUI) after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP).
Methods: This study included patients who underwent RARP at our institution and were stratified into PUI (≥1 pad/day) and continence (0 pad/day) groups at 60 months after RARP. A propensity score-matched analysis with multiple preoperative urinary status (Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite urinary subdomains, total International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), and IPSS-quality of life scores) was performed to match preoperative urinary status in these groups.

Adipsic hypernatremia is typically caused by congenital dysplasia of the hypothalamus and pituitary or brain tumors. However, cases of adipsic hypernatremia without underlying organic abnormalities are rare, and some cases have been reported to be complicated by hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction. The patient in this case was a 9-yr-old boy who was referred to our hospital because of hypernatremia.

Upstroke time (UT) and percentage of mean arterial pressure (%MAP) at the ankle have been shown to serve as atherosclerotic markers. The purpose of this study was to directly compare the diagnostic accuracy of UT with that of %MAP for clinical coronary artery disease (CAD) in subjects with a normal ankle-brachial index (ABI) in both legs. We measured UT and %MAP in 1953 subjects with a normal ABI.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the effect of the modified 5-item frailty index on perioperative complications and surgical outcomes in patients who underwent ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy for upper urinary tract stones.
Methods: Patients who underwent ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy for upper urinary tract stones between 2019 and 2022 were reviewed retrospectively. Assessment was performed using the modified 5-item frailty index based on medical history (hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and functional status.

Context: A Body Shape Index (ABSI) has been reported to have associations with cardiovascular risk factors. However, there is no information on the association between ABSI and incidence of cardiovascular events.
Methods: We investigated the associations between ABSI and first major cardiovascular events (death from cardiovascular disease, nonfatal acute coronary syndrome, and nonfatal stroke) in 1857 subjects from the database of Flow-Mediated Dilation Japan registry and from Hiroshima University Vascular Function registry.

Novel therapeutic strategies are urgently required for osteosarcoma, given the early age at onset and persistently high mortality rate. Modern transcriptomics techniques can identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that may serve as biomarkers and therapeutic targets, so we screened for DEGs in osteosarcoma. We found that osteosarcoma cases could be divided into fair and poor survival groups based on gene expression profiles.

Transient abnormal myelopoiesis (TAM) is a common complication in newborns with Down syndrome (DS). It commonly progresses to myeloid leukemia (ML-DS) after spontaneous regression. In contrast to the favorable prognosis of primary ML-DS, patients with refractory/relapsed ML-DS have poor outcomes.

There are numerous surgical procedures for glaucoma. Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery is becoming popular; however, the disadvantage is the high incidence of anterior chamber hemorrhage. Heavy bleeding can also lead to increased intraocular pressure (IOP) postoperatively.

Objectives: We evaluated the on-scene time of emergency medical services (EMS) for cases where discrimination between acute stroke and epileptic seizures at the initial examination was difficult and identified factors linked to delays in such scenarios.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective review of cases with suspected seizure using the EMS database of fire departments across six Japanese cities between 2016 and 2021 was conducted. Patient classification was based on transport codes.

To investigate the association between lactate metabolism and glaucoma, we conducted a multi-institutional cross-sectional clinical study and a retinal metabolomic analysis of mice with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) induced by intracameral microbead injection. We compared lactate concentrations in serum and aqueous humor in age-matched 64 patients each with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and cataract. Neither serum nor aqueous humor lactate concentrations differed between the two groups.

Background: The relationship between cumulative low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) exposure and progression of atherosclerosis remains uncertain.
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between cumulative LDL-C level and flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD), nitroglycerine-induced vasodilation (NID) and the presence of plaque in the common carotid artery (CCA).
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study.

Heated tobacco products (HTPs) have emerged as novel alternatives to conventional cigarettes (CCs), marketed by the tobacco industry as having a reduced potential for harm. Nevertheless, a significant dearth of information remains regarding the long-term effects of HTPs on the central nervous system (CNS). Here, we sought to shed light on the repercussions of prolonged exposure to HTPs on the CNS, employing a mouse model mimicking prodromal Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Background: Delayed on-scene time by emergency medical services (EMS) can have detrimental effects on critical cases for people with epilepsy (PWE). In preparation for a super-aged society, a Community-based Integrated Care System is crucial to manage healthcare costs. However, sufficient coordination irrespective of sociomedical changes among medical providers is challenging.

Immuno-oncology (IO) combination therapy is utilized as a first-line systemic treatment for advanced renal cell carcinoma. However, evidence supporting the use of cabozantinib after IO combination therapy is lacking. We retrospectively analyzed patients who received second-line cabozantinib after IO combination therapy using the Japanese Urological Oncology Group (JUOG) database.
