Background: Bepirovirsen is an antisense oligonucleotide that targets all hepatitis B virus (HBV) messenger RNAs and acts to decrease levels of viral proteins.
Methods: We conducted a phase 2b, randomized, investigator-unblinded trial involving participants with chronic HBV infection who were receiving or not receiving nucleoside or nucleotide analogue (NA) therapy. Participants were randomly assigned (in a 3:3:3:1 ratio) to receive weekly subcutaneous injections of bepirovirsen at a dose of 300 mg for 24 weeks (group 1), bepirovirsen at a dose of 300 mg for 12 weeks then 150 mg for 12 weeks (group 2), bepirovirsen at a dose of 300 mg for 12 weeks then placebo for 12 weeks (group 3), or placebo for 12 weeks then bepirovirsen at a dose of 300 mg for 12 weeks (group 4).
Although several studies have reported significant effects of patient age on outcomes of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), the prognostic relevance of age must be determined separately for myeloablative conditioning (MAC) and reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC). We analyzed Japanese nationwide transplantation registry data of patients aged 20-79 years with acute myeloid leukemia who underwent allogeneic HCT using MAC (n = 7525) or RIC (n = 3154) between 2008 and 2019. Patient were divided into six groups by age, with each group representing a decade, and overall survival (OS), relapse, and non-relapse mortality (NRM) were compared between adjacent age groups.

Although systemic therapy is standard management for patients with metastatic disease, several recent reports have indicated that an addition of local therapies including stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for patients with oligometastatic disease (OMD) could improve survival. The lung is the most common site of distant metastasis from many solid tumors, and the strategy of SBRT, such as dose-fraction schedules, timing, etc., would be different depending on the type of primary tumor, location, and patterns of OMD.

Background: Posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) is a life-threatening complication following hepatic resection. The aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) is a non-invasive model for assessing the liver functional reserve in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to establish a scoring model to stratify patients with HCC at risk for PHLF.

Background: Primary small-bowel follicular lymphoma (FL) is mainly diagnosed as a duodenal lesion during esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Recently, with the widespread use of small-bowel endoscopy, FL in the jejunum and ileum has been detected. Most patients with small-bowel FL are diagnosed at the localized stage, and a watch-and-wait policy is used.

Background Aims: In allogeneic stem cell transplantation, unrelated donors are chosen in cases where appropriate related donors are not available. Peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) are more often selected as a graft source than bone marrow (BM). However, the prognostic benefits of PBSCs versus BM transplants from unrelated donors have not been carefully examined in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

We compared the outcomes of autologous stem cell transplantation (auto-SCT) with those of allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) from a human leukocyte antigen-matched related donor in patients with Philadelphia chromosome-negative B-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Newly diagnosed patients who underwent allo-SCT (n = 486) or auto-SCT (n = 99) after achieving first complete remission (CR) were included. Propensity score matching (PS) and an inverse probability of the treatment weighting (IPTW) analysis were applied to compensate for imbalances in baseline characteristics.

Background: A few previous clinical studies have shown that chloride (Cl) contributes to the progression and development of hypertension or proteinuria. Therefore, we aimed to determine whether hyperchloremia is associated with hypertension or proteinuria in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and to define the relationships between the reduction in serum Cl concentration associated with CKD treatment and improvements in hypertension and/or proteinuria.
Methods: We performed a retrospective observational study of new or referred patients with CKD who had hyperchloremia, moderate proteinuria, renal dysfunction, and hypertension.

Progranulin (PGRN), a growth factor, is abundantly expressed in a broad range of tissues and cell types with pleiotropic functions including inflammation, neurodegeneration, and facilitating lysosome acidification. PGRN binds to TNF receptors (TNFR) and inhibits downstream inflammatory signaling pathways. TNFR is a well-known predictor of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) decline in a variety of diseases.

Purpose: Osimertinib is still essential for the treatment of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-T790M-positive non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) even in a relapsed setting, which suggests the importance of rebiopsy. The clinical value of repeat rebiopsy in patients with NSCLC who are T790M-negative on a first rebiopsy remains unclear. In this study, we examined the status of the first rebiopsy and evaluated the frequency of repeat rebiopsy of T790M-negative tumors detected by the first rebiopsy.
