Laparoscopic ovarian transposition prior to pelvic irradiation in a young female patient with advanced rectal cancer.

In the report, we describe the first case of laparoscopic ovarian transposition prior to pelvic radio-chemo therapy in a young female patient with advanced rectal cancer in Japan. A 14-year-old female visited a hospital because of consistent diarrhea and melena. Colonoscopy examination showed a bulky tumor of the rectum, which was diagnosed as moderately to poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma.

Natural history of the ascending aorta after aortic valve replacement: risk factor analysis for late aortic complications after aortic valve replacement.

Background: The purpose of this study was to clarify the natural history of the ascending aorta and to identify risk factors for late ascending aortic events after first isolated aortic valve replacement (AVR).

Methods: A total of 287 patients undergoing AVR were enrolled. The patients were categorized into two groups based on the diameter of the ascending aorta at the time of AVR, as determined by computed tomography: Group A (n = 233) was defined as an ascending aortic diameter <40 mm, and Group B (n = 54) was defined as an ascending aortic diameter ≥40 mm.

Locking of the thumb in a patient with de Quervain's disease: a case report.

We report a patient with a locked left thumb in association with de Quervain's disease. While bathing her baby 1 month after giving birth a 32-year-old woman suddenly noticed that she could not radially abduct her left thumb. Magnetic resonance imaging showed thickening of the abductor pollicis longus tendon with a heterogeneous signal intensity on T2-weighted images.

[Characteristic clinical features of pyelonephritis caused by Enterococcus faecalis].
