Clinical and mycological outcomes of candidaemia and/or invasive candidiasis by Candida spp. and antifungal susceptibility: pooled analyses of two randomized trials of rezafungin versus caspofungin.

Objectives: A post hoc analysis used pooled STRIVE/ReSTORE trial data to determine outcomes with rezafungin versus caspofungin by Candida species and antifungal susceptibility.

Methods: The efficacy and safety of once weekly rezafungin 400/200 mg versus once daily caspofungin 70/50 mg was demonstrated in the randomized, double-blind phase 2 STRIVE (NCT02734862) and phase 3 ReSTORE (NCT03667690) trials involving adults with candidaemia and/or invasive candidiasis. In this analysis, data were pooled for patients with a documented Candida infection within 96 hours of randomization who also received ≥1 dose of study drug.

Frequencies or Absolute Numbers? Cluster Analysis of Frequencies and Absolute Numbers of B-Cell Subsets in Dialysis Patients Who Are Candidates for Kidney Transplantation Reveals Different Profiles.

Detailed characterization of B cells in dialysis patients who are candidates for kidney transplant is still lacking, with little information on how dialysis duration and modality impact B cell subsets. Cluster analysis of flow cytometry determined the frequencies and absolute numbers of B-cell subsets and divided the cohort of 78 candidates into two distinct clusters, one with shorter and one with longer dialysis duration. The immune profiles of the clusters differed depending on whether frequencies or absolute counts were considered.

Effect of Glucagon-like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonism on Aortic Valve Stenosis Risk: A Mendelian Randomization Analysis.

Aortic valve repair is currently the only effective treatment for calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAVS), as no pharmacological therapies exist to prevent or slow its progression. Recent promising results showed that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) attenuates the calcification of aortic valve interstitial cells. Therefore, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis to investigate the effect of GLP-1 receptor agonism (GLP-1Ra) on the risk of CAVS.

Giant cystic lymphangioma as a rare cause of acute abdomen in infancy: a case report and literature review.

Lymphangioma, a benign mass of lymphatic origin, primarily affects the head, neck, and oral cavity, with the abdomen being an uncommon location. Clinical presentation is defined by site of origin and size. We present the case of a 10-month-old male infant with no previous medical history, admitted to our department with diffuse abdominal pain and distension.

Ferric carboxymaltose reduces the burden of arrhythmic events in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: the role of the non-invasive arrhythmic biomarkers.

Objective: Treating iron deficiency (ID) with ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) enhances morbidity, quality of life (QoL), and exercise capacity.

Methods: In the presented single-center, prospective follow-up study, symptomatic patients with HFrEF with ID and CIEDs scheduled for IV FCM were followed up for 12-months. Arrhythmic activity was evaluated from CIEDs and non-invasive markers from Holter recordings before and after FCM.

Aims/hypothesis: The diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is increasing in young people worldwide. This study evaluated the frequency and clinical characteristics of young people presenting with type 2 diabetes from the multinational SWEET e.V Registry 2012-2021, including the first years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Duration of dual antiplatelet treatment after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) have higher ischemic and bleeding risk compared with patients with normal renal function. The aim of our systematic review and meta-analysis is to compare shortened (≤3 months) dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with longer DAPT in patients with CKD undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions. We systematically screened three major databases (Medline, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Scopus) searching for randomized-controlled trials or subanalyses of them, which compared shortened (S-DAPT) to longer (L-DAPT) regimens of DAPT in patients with CKD.

A Delphi consensus project to capture experts' opinion on hyperkalaemia management across the cardiorenal spectrum.

The main purpose of this project was to capture experts' opinion on hyperkalaemia management and form best practice recommendations for cardiorenal patients in Greece. A steering committee of nephrologists and cardiologists developed 37 statements. An online questionnaire completed by 32 experts in cardiorenal management in Greece.

Amikacin Liposomal Inhalation Suspension for Non-Tuberculous Lung Infection: A Greek Observational Study.

Intravenous amikacin, recommended for severe or recurrent (MAC) infections and as initial treatment for lung disease, is often limited by serious adverse effects such as renal and auditory toxicities. Inhaled Amikacin Liposome Inhalation Suspension (ALIS) enhances pulmonary drug deposition while minimizing systemic adverse effects, and it has recently been introduced as an add-on therapy for refractory MAC infections or when other standard treatments are inadequate. This study aims to retrospectively describe the outcomes of Greek patients with difficult-to-treat non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease following the addition of ALIS to guideline-based therapy.
